What was your reaction to Dawn?

I didn't really get it if she had a sister wouldn't we have already seen her. She like pop out of nowhere.
 
I knew she was coming so I wasn't shocked, but I was a little confused as to why they weren't explaining why Buffy has this random sister we've never seen before. But I liked that. I liked how Joss & the writers just tossed her in there like "Oh, she's always had a sister. Yeah, where have you been?" I thought that was clever.

I also thought her mystical origin storyline was brilliant. A mystical key pressed into the form of a human who shares the blood of the slayer by a group of monks who choose to give it to the slayer for protection. Oh and she can open all of the demon dimensions and unleash hell on Earth. Only Joss can think of something that complicated, but brilliant. 😀

However, Dawn the character, I was never too fond of. I know I'm probably going to get some hate for this, but I never thought Michelle Trachtenberg was that good of an actress. Not just on BtVS, but on pretty much everything else she's done. So, maybe if Dawn had a different actress my opinion of her would be vastly different. But I guess we'll never know. xD

I remember watching season six before season five, and considering I was familiar with seasons 1-3, my first response was kind of 'Whoa, what? Buffy has a sister, when did this happen?' By the time I watched season five, I was familiar with Dawn, but I was kind of amazed with the way she was just kind of thrown in there at the end of Buffy vs Dracula, and I recall thinking something along the lines of 'Wow, if I'd have watched this before season six, I'd be so lost now.' Thank goodness for me weird watching habits.
 
I remember being really, really confused. I thought I must have skipped a disc by accident, and I remember going back and checking. I was like, well, I guess this will be explained...but I was wary as to how.

In retrospect, I like how Dawn was introduced. I thought it was really clever on Joss' part. Leave it to him to keep his fans on their feet! I really liked Dawn's storyline. Sure, I found her irritating at first, but I grew to love her. I Season 7, she's one of my favorite characters.
 
I didn't like her... In fact i'm STILL not a huge fan but i've learned to accept her lol.

But I mostly remember being confused thinking 'ok... did I miss a few episodes or something?'
 
I liked Dawn as a character, plot device, and a sister to add greater depth to Buffy's own character.

Even though i knew she was coming at some stage, it was definitely a wtf moment at the start of season 5.

Her being a key was cool.

Season 5 ending was amazing. Wouldn't have happened without Dawn.

Liked Xanders end speech to Dawn in potential during season 7, about her being extraordinary. Both underrated for their efforts throughout the series.
