Firstly, read "oh yeah" as it sounds in the song from Yello (you might remember it from Ferris Bueller's Day Off).

Okay, I've been thinking about my first viewing of Buffy and those moments where a character really clicked for me, and thought it would be fun to hear from others on this topic. This could also be thought of as the moment you fell in love with a character.

<insert obligatory spoiler alert warning here of your choice>

I'll start with just a couple:

Character: Spike. Episode: Lie to Me.
Okay, I've always liked Spike.. I have to say that first, however in this episode, at the end.. Spike doesn't kill Ford. This was HUGE for me... the heavens opened up and chubby little cherubs floated around me. To me this made this character, and I feel the writers stuck with this, moving Spike forward in an almost flawless manner (minus episode "As You Were" that crushed me.. but only in a little way).

Character: Cordelia. Episode: Killed By Death
Remember when Cordelia brings Xander coffee at the hospital and drops the bag of Krispy Kreme doughnuts on the table next to him? It's THE moment.. Cordelia, from the start has been a character of depth, but with this entire episode she really starts to kick in. I actually view this as the Cordelia episode.. as in every scene with her is brilliant!

Character: Giles. Episode: The Gift
Aha! I bet you thought I was going to say episode Halloween, when Giles hits Ethan.. but no! It's when Giles kills Ben... the depth of his conviction and personal sacrifice for Buffy is so profound and apparent here.

So there is my start.. feel free to call me crazy 🙂

Woot. Okay.

Spike: Yeah, I loved him from when he said he was at Woodstock and then gave his coat to Dru because she was cold. I wish I was at Woodstock!

Buffy: She clicked for me in prophesy girl when she gave her speech about not wanting to die. It just really really humanized this little girl with super powers.

Giles: His book speech when he explains that he doesn't like computers because they don't smell. I get it and I love him. And then like the OP I really liked when he made the decision to take out Ben because Buffy couldn't.

Though I hated that he tried to kill Spike, even though it was the same type of motivation for the two acts. . .

Okay, I'll be Ms. Completely Repetitive here, but I never get tired of telling this story.

I still vividly remember watching Becoming Part 2. Giles / ASH had not yet made it onto my radar (what's up with that anyway?). Giles was just a sniveling, tweed-clad, British dweeb. And so there's Angelus torturing him ... offering to stop if Giles will just tell him what he needs to know ... and Giles says, "Please," and I was so upset, knowing how painful it would be to see Giles broken and giving up the secret ... here it comes ... "In order ... to be worthy ... you must perform the ritual ..." No! Giles! Please don't tell him! I can't watch .... "In a tutu. Pillock!" AHHHHHHHHH! I just about cheered out loud, which would have been embarrasing in a gym full of people. That's the moment I fell in love with the character and the actor both.

I love that song from Ferris anyways for the characters I think Faith clicked for me instantly when she was dancing she seemed so free spirited.

Willow clicked for me kind of immediately as well but the moment I really adored her is when she said her and Xander broke up because of the barbie thing.

Spike just has a presence but I knew I loved him when he killed the little vamp boy in that cage.

Faith really clicked for me in the episode when she was in Buffy's body. I fell in love with her in that episode. But particularly the moments when she says "because it's wrong" and she's actually serious. And also when she's beating up Buffy who's in her body.

I can't remember when the other characters clicked for me. My foray into the Buffyverse was very confused. I saw several episodes out of order then seasons 2 and 3 before season 1. And it was a few years ago now. Faith only really clicked for me in a re-watch.

I pretty much loved most of the main characters very early on and can't remember any specific moments for them so I'm gonna go with another of my faves, Oz!

For me, it was when he surprised Willow with the pez witch and when she asked "what's the occasion?", he says "Pretty much, you are." I just thought he was so sweet from then on and I absolutely loved their relationship!
