Couldn't the spell be broken then as Dawn returned into Green Ball of Energy state? Thus, freeing up the memories of Scoobie-gang, like there were no Dawn at all?

Buffy was the Slayer, the powerfull one, world needed her, but what was the major reason for bringing Dawn back?
When Joyce - Buffy's true relative - was left to decay in her grave.

I doubt that they would have bothered to bring Dawn back. However . . . who knows how Buffy would have reacted mentally to Dawn's death. Especially if it came on the heels of Joyce's death.

A lot would've changed. If I understood correctly, wasn't the scoobies bringing back Buffy from the dead the reason why the First could attack the slayer line so easily? So if Dawn had jumped instead of Buffy, season 7 wouldn't have existed the way we know it.
And I don't think they would've brought Dawn back from the dead. Really, like when Joyce died and Tara and Willow explained you shouldn't mess with death. Of course Dawn was important to everyone of the Scoobies, but still no comparision to Buffy. And even bringing Buffy back was a bit controversial.

I've always wondered about that. A lot would be different than it was, Buffy wouldn't need to use Spike, so he probably wouldn't have tried raping her, so he probably wouldn't have gone and gotten his soul. Thus meaning he couldn't save the world in season seven since it was 'Someone ensouled' since he wouldn't be ensouled. Umm...that's the main change I can think of, but there would have been a lot more.

God I wish that'd happened. No more whining, no more irritating voice, kleptomania, no more any of it... its almost like music to my ears!

If Dawn jumped, Buffy would have lived, and I think UlaGan is right, no more memories of Dawn would exist (we can hope). But equally, it does mean no more Spuffy, and probably no more First evil.... unless they wanted to do the spin that it's because she died and came back the first time (they said the reason the first was rising was because she lives, and she'd already done that once)... but there are SO many what-ifs with this.

If they didnt need to bring her back, maybe Willow wouldn't have gone overboard with the magic and turned evil...

Willow would never have met Kennedy...

Faith wouldn't have come back...

Wasn't one of the main reasons for bringing Buffy, aside from her being the Slayer, that they were afraid she was stuck in some kind of hell dimension? Wouldn't they have been equally scared of that with Dawn? And if so, I think they would've brought her back.

Unless of course, the fake memories of Dawn would be erased. In which case, they obviously wouldn't have brought anything back.

I agree that the list about what else would've changed is huge! Main differences (under the assumption the Dawn-memories would be erased): no Dark Willow, no First Evil, no Twilight, and Spike doesn't get a soul.

In an alternate script they were originally going to kill off Dawn and not Buffy. And in the script directions it describes Dawn being in the portal and then visibly turning back into the pure green energy that closed the portal.

So we can presume that even if the memories of Dawn remained, they would be unable to bring her back unless they could recreate the way-too-powerful spell the monks did of compressing the energy into human from once again. But if the energy, Dawn, was used to close the portal then the energy would have been used up and so doesn't exist anymore so...they wouldn't have been able to.

I think if Dawn had died instead of Buffy, Buffy would have been just as depressed in season 6 as she had been originally. She would have lost every member of her family within the space of two months. She would feel responsible for Dawn's death, would be overcome with the guilt and would not be able to forgive herself no matter what her friends did.

I don't know whether Spuffy would have definitely happened, but it's possible. Buffy would have felt as detached as she did originally, but perhaps with Dawn dying she would have been a lot more angry and agressive towards Spike. She asked him to protect her and he failed so perhaps she would keep blaming him to relieve her own guilt.

The First Evil wouldn't have been able to begin killing of Potentials and the Watcher's Council because the thing that triggered the availability for this plan was Buffy being brought back to life after being dead long to be in a Heaven Dimension.

I know it was hard for Buffy being dragged out of Heaven, but in all honesty, I think it would have been even harder for her knowing her sister was dead, that she could have saved her and didn't.

However, if the memories of Dawn were erased things would have carried on perfectly normally. Which would have made season 5 almost non-existent and definitely pointless which would have been extremely strange and time-consuming....

Well, there still would be loss of Joyce, returning to college and new monsters to deal with. Would it be as interesting and new as it was for previous five seasons, we cannot know, but who knows?
Trio still can appear - I don't see any reason for them not to gather and Tara still could have been killed by Warren and Willow could have gone Dark.

The show would have went a few more years 😛 . Just my opinion. But things I think would have been completely different after that, if they didn't bring her back. Both Buffy's mom and sister.. dead, she'd be heartbroken. :cry: But if Dawn jumped and everyone forgot about her... idk... wouldn't seem right?

It is unfair, true, but it's TV show - they had already abandoned idea of Taraka Order - no one went for Buffy's head after first three got killed...

well we certainly wouldn't have had perhaps my favorite episode Once More With Feeling. Because Dawn wouldn't have been around to steal from the magic shop.

I doubt Spuffy would have happened if Dawn died instead of Buffy. Whose to say, I liked it the way it was. 🙂

That's kind of a blasé statement. I actually liked her a lot. Plus, like we've been saying above, so much would have changed if she had of jumped. You're a Spuffy fan right? Well if Dawn had jumped-possibly erasing all memories of her- then Spuffy most likely would never have happened. So you have to admit that even from your very anti-Dawn view she brought some good to the series.....

I know that can get annoying- it even annoyed me sometimes (In particular whenever she had a 'get out! get out! get out!' scene), but she was only fourteen years old. Fourteen is the worst age you can ever be. Even fourteen year olds agree. I remember when I was fourteen and I was constantly crying, nothing felt write, I kept arguing and falling out with my Mom and then the next minute wanted her to hug me like I was five years old.

It's an age that is just a complete pain in the ass and I think they successfully showed that through Dawn. But I just love her to bits in spite of all that. She's quirky and just very sweet and when you compare her to the rest of the Scoobies she's just so young which makes her very cute. Plus in season 7 she was even better because she was just so WatcherJunior Grownupiness. Hehe

To be honest i liked Dawn. she reminded me of myself when i was that age so its like when i think she's being a pain, i just go meh i was like that too, she does play a vital role in the show too. Without the family ties Buffy had to her, she would have turned into an empty shell of a slayer and nothing good would have come from it at all in my opinion that is.

I'll hit on a few points here and that is:

1) If Dawn had died instead of Buffy, I doubt the Scoobies would bring her back. Sure Buffy might have been in a state of emotional turmoil but she was about Joyce as well and still told Dawn to reverse the resurrection spell. I think Buffy would have done the same about Dawn as well.

2) As for Willow going evil that would have still happened. We saw what happened when Glory sapped Tara's brain. Willow went to the dark arts to combat Glory. Warren, Jonathan, and Andrew would have still banded together to take on Buffy which would no doubt still lead to Waren killing Tara. Buffy would not have been able to control Willow seeking revenge. Let's not also forget that Willow was already becoming dangerously reckless with her magic around Season 5. The signs were evident she was going down a reckless path.

3) Spike and Buffy. Let's say Buffy didn't go into despair and therefore start using Spike. Who's not to say they would not eventually hook up regardless. Something I have been noticing in the last few days that I have been rewatching Season 5 is that Spike was making conscience decisions concerning Buffy without a soul. He did so when he kept Dawn's secret about the key. Spike was showing good even as a souless vampire. I think his love for Buffy would eventually have led him to get his soul back regardless of who died to defeat Glory.

4) As for Xander, things would have played out regardless of what happened. Xander was insecure no matter what because of his family. He still would not have dealt with that no matter if Buffy was on top of things or not.

Just my opinion...
