Ok people, time for a test of your imagination...

how would the series, series 6 and 7 fallen if Buffy had never returned from the dead?

Actually stop and think about it... that one instance, how would the dominoes have fallen in Sunnydale and around the world if Buffy hadn't been pulled back from Heaven?

Would Spike still have gotten his soul? Would the Trio have focused their efforts on the scoobies or actually succeeded in taking over Sunnydale? (pft, yeah right lol) Would Tara and Willow have lived happily ever after or would something else have got in the way of their love?

Think of it as a stone being tossed in a pond... now try and imagine where the ripples would end up 😀

If Buffy had stayed dead...

Giles would have left Sunnydale to move on with his life while willing to receive any calls from the Scoobies in case they need any advice or help from him.

Willow would have rebuilt the Buffyboat after her destruction.

Buffy staying dead would mean Willow's resurrection help wouldn't have worked. This would have forced the Scoobies to try to move on with their lives after Buffy.

Willow's failure to bring back Buffy would have further fueled her addiction to magic. She would have continued to lead the Scoobies like she did in the beginning of Season 6 but her hunger for power and control would have slowly broke the gang apart once they had enough of her darkening behavior.

Tara would have broke up with Willow when she couldn't take Willow's crap anymore which would have plunged Willow farther into her addiction with Amy. Willow would have had her wake-up call from that involving Dawn at the hand of a pisssed off, protective Spike.

Spike would have continued to look after Dawn like a little sister while struggling with his depression over Buffy's death.

The Scoobies would have focused their efforts on Willow and the other Scoobies instead of Buffy.

The storyline of Xander and Anya's engagement would have ended the same way.

Spike would have gotten his soul for different reasons than gaining Buffy's love.

In addition to all of the obvious things that would have happened without Buffy patrolling the hellmouth in Seasons 6 it would have been at the best only a few months before the Council, despite the best efforts of the Scoobies, even with the help of Spike and the Buffybot, would have learned the true situation. At that point, I have no doubt that Faith would have been killed in order to trigger a new Slayer being Called.

Willow would have had no reason to go dark and try to destroy the world, because Warren would not have shot Tara, so the final crisis of Season 6 would never have happened.

The Council would have been sure that tighter control would have been applied to their new Slayer (possibly Kennedy) which would, at the very least, have resulted in the First Evil's plans being successful and the world would have been thrown into Chaos.

No Scythe, no Slayer army, no Twilight, because Angel would have probably been dusted pretty soon after the First broke out of the hellmouth. Spike would have either taken Dawn into hiding somewhere (without Buffy there, the First would have had no reason to trigger Spike) or have died defending her.

Assuming that Spike and/or any of the Scoobies survived to that point, the name of the show would have been changed from "Buffy The Vampire Slayer" to "Falling Skies, and Riley, with a stubbly beard, would have been leading them and a band of survivors trying to survive until a viable plan could be come up with that would defeat the enemy.

Or, you know, we might finally have gotten a canonical (i.e., onscreen in-verse, as opposed to Word Of Joss meta) answer to the eternal question of The Unseen Third Slayer... 😉

The First wouldn't have been able to act; the only reason why it was able to in Season 7 was because Buffy had been resurrected.

If Buffy hadn't been brought back...

Xander and Anya would have broken up the same way.

Willow would have gone deeper into magic, but wouldn't have gone evil because she would have recovered completely (no Warren to kill Tara). Or she would have been discouraged from the failure of her resurrection spell and wouldn't attempt any overly hard spells. And she and Tara would stay together.

Giles would have gone as he planned, but maybe gone back to Sunnydale when the new Slayer was called. If a new Slayer wasn't called, 'coz Faith carries the Slayer line or something, then... I guess maybe Faith would have been freed and sent there? Or the Council (if they're really evil and for the greater good) would have killed her. Giles would also have helped them with money troubles later on, I guess.

Spike would have continued helping as he did during the summer. He may resort to illegal means to help them with their bills and stuff. He wouldn't have gotten a soul either.

And the plot for the season would have been the new Slayer trying to restore order to the now demon-overidden Sunnydale.

(And Dawn would have just been Dawn.)
 
The whole First thing wouldn't of happened, correct? That was unleashed after Buffy returned from the dead if I'm not mistaken.
