We know that characters like Oz and Whistler weren't around because the actors opted to leave the Buffyverse. But if they had remained, what do you think Joss would have done with their characters?

I think Whistler would have taken Doyle's place on Angel, actually I think he was supposed to?
Oz, it's hard to say, I would hope he would become more involved in the Scoobies. I wonder what would have come of Willow if he had stayed around?

I really think Oz should have headed onto Angel once he left Sunnydale.
He was on there for one measly episode and he just fit so well there.

Oh, I like this idea alot. I would have liked to have seen it after New Moon Rising when he had come back to Sunnydale with a mind to actually staying, I think LA would have made sense for him then.
Oh, and I can totally see him and Fred clicking rather nicely! Or imagine his conversations with Gunn? or Lorne making him sing! lol

I agree about Oz fitting in well in LA. In Buffy it could be argued he was a bit part character who was rarely used. If he had become a regular on Angel he could have gone the same way as Wesley and Cordelia in terms of having a much more important role and a chance to shine. He could have become an integral character away from The Scoobies.
In regard to Willow i think i heard Joss had the gay storyline in his head a long while before it came into fruition. In season 3 you had Willow from another dimension being gay and the whole Angel comment that "Vampires aren't too different from the humans they take over from". So Woz wasn't meant to be i guess regardless of Seth leaving.
Didn't Joss just decide not to use Whistler and go with someone new? I heard something about the actor who played Whistler saying he was ready to take part but Joss then decided to go for a new guy.

That's what I've heard to ^ I saw an interview with the guy who played Whistler (forgot his name) and he said he would have loved to join in on Angel, but they went with Glenn instead.
I really enjoyed Whistler, but I have a strong attatchment to Doyle so I'm not sure whether I'm happy or disappointed Whistler didn't make it to Angel 😛

I liked Doyle as a character so i'am not too fuzzed. Plus it was only a short term appearance so there wasn't that much time to build an affinity for Doyle or if it had been Whistler.

I also heard that, had they had a sixth season of Angel, they were going to try to bring Oz in for it.

The reason it got canceled sounds so stupid aswell. Just because they tried to renew the show early it ended up causing it to be canceled. It was rating really well aswell :confused2:

Whistler was supposed to be Angel's contact with the Powers originally, but the actor wasn't available when the time came, which ultimately worked out well, because, Wes would probably not have been on the show. And I read somewhere once that there were plans to bring Oz to LA at least for a few episodes in Season 6 to help Nina with her werewolf control, but that obviously never happened.
that would've made sense, too bad Oz never came around to tame wolf-girl, that would have been interesting to see. (I might just be speaking from my Seth Green lovin' little heart though)
I love Doyle as much as I love Whistler so between the two I don't really care who made the cut so to speak. I suppose Doyle was 'prettier' and therefore more believable as a potential love interest for Cordy, at least the chance that she would reciprocate his feelings would be more believable. I don't think she would have given Whistler the time of day.

If Wild at Heart had never happened (ie Oz never left), he might've been able to play a part in stopping Glory if it was a full moon, and in S6 Warren could've shot Oz instead. Agree that I would've loved to see Oz in S6 of Angel.
I seem to recall reading that the Veruca arc would still have happened if they'd had Seth Green for longer, but would have played out over a longer period of time, so I'm not sure whether or not Willow and Oz would have stayed together. If they hadn't, I agree that he could have fitted in quite well on Angel.
I've also heard that there was a different ending planned for AtS 2 (one related to the season's main arc, rather than the detour to Pylea), which was scrapped because it involved Lindsey, Darla and Dru, and their actors weren't available. Would very much have liked to see that. Although if that had happened, they'd either have to fit the visit to Pylea into S3, come up with a completely different introduction for Fred, or not introduce her at all. I'm not completely certain that this one's true though.
I'm pretty sure the Initiative storyline would also have played out differently if Lindsay Crouse hadn't left the show, presumably with Maggie Walsh as the main antagonist - I don't know if that would have worked much better though.
