Hey everyone,

I just wrote a new essay all about Xander -- I'd love to hear what people think! 🙂

What Would Xander Do?

My point, as I said, is not to denigrate religion "” it is to argue that the idea of "What would Buffy think we should do?" is not usually the best answer to the issue at hand. In a "Buffy" context, I would state that the best question is, "What would Xander do?" Xander is the Everyman among the Scoobies.

That was a really wonderful essay. I'm a woman, but I consider Xander my role model as he's far more relatable than the other characters to me. Taking pride in his work is totally a good advice and something that Xander does.

… imagine Xander is confronted by a group of vampires, and asks himself what Buffy would do. Buffy would most likely take advantage of her unique abilities as a slayer and make short work of the vampires. But if we imagine Xander without these abilities, attempting to do the same things, it seems that we’ll end up with one dead Xander.

I think that the author might, and I emphasize the word MIGHT, have missed something with his analogy. The point of "What would Buffy do" in the situation described doesn't have as much to do with winning the fight with the vampires as it does with simply never giving up, no matter what the odds. In a confrontation with a "group" of vampires, we're gonna get an end result of dead Xander, no matter what he does. Buffy, like every Slayer before her, will, some day, lose her final battle, whether to overwhelming odds or just a wrong set of circumstances. What Buffy would do is never admit defeat as long as breath remained in her body and strength in her limbs. Her death might be inevitable, but she would determine to also make it expensive for her enemies.
