Not really? It’s totally open to individual choice. If they made a follow up show, they would totally disregard the comics. As far as I’m aware the new books don’t directly continue from the comics. They are their own canon.

WARREN. I loved bringing Amy back as a more prominent villain but why Warren?! I don't remember if they explained it away that he was technically dead for some time before Amy re-animated him and that's why the first could appear as him in Season 7 but it seemed like BS and of all the past characters, I don't think anyone was clamoring to see Warren again. Other than that, I loved Season 8 and all of it's over the top glory. Y'all need to remember, Sunnydale was destroyed- the world was now their oyster and there were over a thousand slayers now- of course it was going to be BIG. They reined it in for S9 anyway. And the Angel/Twilight thing was questionable but what he did to Giles led into his great storyline in Angel & Faith (Season 9).

Sorry, why should I appreciate ‘more’ if it’s not very good? Honestly I would be happier if Buffy ended with season 5-because I don’t think anything good comes after, aside from a couple of episodes-but worth losing that all time great tragic ending? Nope.

It's not a choice to reject the comics as canon. They simply are. Regardless of if you like them or not.

It's your choice to not read them, but you can't deny they are canon.

I would disagree. The only reason Joss said they were canon was because he knew nobody would buy them otherwise so I just don't think that is a strong enough reason for them to be considered canon.

Especially when we know Joss will sometimes change his mind about things when it suits him. As @Angel6 said if they made a follow up show set after BS7, the TV show would remain canon, they would totally disregard the comics and Joss would come up with some reason why the comics were technically never really canon 😉

And its not even a question of quality or the medium of comics. There are other franchises which have TV, film, comics etc where the comics feel like a fully integrated part of the universe. And I don't think that is the case with the Buffy comics.

If they are canon for you that is fine but it doesn't make it universally so
