If you had the opportunity to live in a world where Buffy was the slayer, Willow, Xander, Giles, Angel, Spike etc were real people would you? Obviously it sounds good potentially hanging out with the Scoobies but also in this world Vampires and demons would exist killing people on a daily basis.

Would knowing that Buffy and everyone else in the Buffyverse existed be enough for you that you'd be willing to live in a world were Vampires and demons roamed free at night?

Basicially is your love for Buffy so extreme that you'd rather they really existed even though you and others would die as a result?

This is a really interesting question.

I'm on the side of wanting to live in this world instead of one that is overrun with monsters. We have enough things constantly threatening our existence in this world without need of demon-centric apocalypses. Not to mention the cruelty of wishing such a burden be placed on anyone!

I think the reason most people think/feel that they wish the Buffyverse was real is that they automatically place themselves in the "I'd be helping fight the good fight" category, instead of the random victim or clueless citizen categories that they would most likely occupy.

I think the reason we're drawn to Buffy (mostly) is the desire to count in this world, make a tangible difference like the Scooby gang does. There isn't anything wrong with that. The only positive point I can see being made for the Buffyverse in reality is that it brings along (good) magical things too. For all the destruction, I don't think that it's worth it to add a little magic to our world.

The quick answer to this is no! I prefer the world the way it is. There are enough horrors without demons and vampires. Btvs and Ats is my escapism, I don't wish it to be my reality.

I mean, no... I wouldn't want to hang with Buffy and the Scoobies so bad that I would wish innocent people die for it. And knowing Buffy was in the world wouldn't make those innocent people dying less awful. But if the world was like the Buffyverse... I'd help. I'd find Buffy and the Scoobies and I'd do research and help, I'd also try to get involved with the magicks but I probably wouldn't get very good...

Now to tackle the issue of monsters. Would I want to live in a world with demons and monsters ignoring the whole killing people thing. I honestly don't know. On the one hand, I ADORE walking outside at night. It's so quiet and peaceful. Everyone's asleep but you. It would suck to be freaked out about monsters during those walks, but then again, I already am. My neighborhood used to be really crappy and it's still a couple blocks from the really awful danky two room trailer park. I'm always on my guard walking at night. I've had one attempted rape but I beat him off. So, we already do live with monsters. It's just not ok for us to kill them, and they're human.

Actually, I think that it would be kind of nice. Certainly, it would be a simpler place than the one that we live in now. You could easily tell the bad guys, because they would have horns, scales, or fangs, and if any of them bothered you, your family, or even your next door neighbor or the pizza delivery kid, a wooden stake through the heart would solve the problem both simply and permanently, without even having a body to dispose of afterwards.

I think about things like this all the freaking time! Nice to know someone is right there with me! lol

I'd have to say yes. I've always wanted to live in a world with vampires, and you know what, I've always wanted to be one. However, if Buffy and the gang lived in my world too, and I was a vampire, I'd hide haha. I mean, if I were a vampire, I'd probably be like Angel, I can't really kill anyone. Unless if you're one of those few people that really piss me off 😛 Also, I think I agree with White Avenger here. The world really would be a lot more simpler if you can pick out the baddies from the goodies.

I mean, but really, if you think about it, we already kind of exist in that kind of world. There is magicks, wiccans, and there are people who practice vampirism. I believe in Europe, there are underground tunnels where people go to practice vampirism. They drink blood and everything. Even some cases of babies being slaughtered. I could never do that if I were a vampire. haha I'd stake myself!!! I'll stick to eating bunnies 😀

Anyways....final decision...HELL TO THE FREAKING YES!

My first thought was yes! but thinking about it I don't know if it would be worth the possibility of losing my family or loved ones. hmmm...it would still be interesting, and look how the scoobies were able to survive! I guess thats a yes!

Somehow I think once you lose your soul and become a vampire, you may not feel the same way anymore... And who knows, you might end up really cruel, like Angelus, and go out of your way to kill everyone you ever loved. On the plus side, though, you probably won't care! 🙂

Good point. You're right, I probably won't care lmao. But if I do end up like Angelus, I won't care. He was more entertaining than Angel 😀

Yeah. I mean I don't think William could kill anyone. But Spike sure could!

The thing is though is that the bad guys aren't always the ones with the horns and the good guys are not always stalwart and true. If anything Buffy's world has ten times more complicated than ours.

As utterly imperfect our world is, it is better than what they have in the Buffyverse.

Yes, but it's more complicated in a much simpler way than ours is (now ponder THAT statement for awhile!)

People die each day no matter what. The answer is easy.

Nope. Not even close. Great show and characters but that's all it is. It need to stay that way.

When I say that Buffy lives in a simpler world, I only mean that the Big Bad is a living entity that can be faced and defeated, usually with the help of friends. In our world, the Big Bad is more apt to be an idea, something like I'm inherently better than you because of my skin color, sexual preference, political affiliation, age, or financial standing. I would rather fight a vampire or killer android than an idea any day of the week.

In Buffy's world, the monsters you have to deal with every day are simple vampires and demons. I would take them over mortgage payments, taxes, business expenses, and medical bills anytime. (Okay, Buffy did have financial problems in Season 6, but they were never portrayed as anything more than a simple plot device to introduce Buffy to the real world, and the problems of slaying demons while working for a living)

Buffy's evils are tangible things that can be faced and defeated, and, once defeated, don't come back the next month for another payment, plus a late payment penalty. A vampire may take your blood, or even your life, but he will never leave your family homeless and destitute because your medical bills took every nickle that you have saved and invested for the last 40 years.

So, yeah, I do think that Buffy's world is simpler than ours.

Huh. I'm not too sure I agree with what some people said in here. It's not like Buffy's world didn't have our 'normal' problems/evils. They just were not put in the front because the show was about fighting *physical* fictional evil.

To answer your question Dan, no I would not pick Buffy's world. Because all it would do is add magic, demons, vampires and the like. We got enough things to worry about in this one!

See I don't think you can dismiss any of that as "plot device". Buffy is left facing very real, very human problems. Her mother's illness, her financial difficulties, family woes, dropping out of school, dead end jobs, not becoming who you hoped you would be. I could go on. Buffy does not get to run away from these things and she certainly doesn't get a nice tidy resolution to them. She has to face everything that us mere mortals do AND save the world.

I agree with both you and White Avenger. I am going to post when I am in an articulate enough mood.
Yeah, Buffy's world is exactly like our's just with demons and evil and stuff mixed in. So, I would vote no since it would just add into the horrors of the world. Like others have said, we have enough of those.

I've always thought about this. What would happen if one day we just woke up and things like in the Buffyverse was real. I've always been like, "Oh yeah, I'd sooo be up for that, I'd kick some vampire ass." But...I'm realizing now that I'm 5'5 n 160 pounds, so my bark is worse than my bite, no pun intended. I'd probably serve as a Tara kinda roll, I'd help out the good guys but not soo much that I'd be in a lot of danger...atleast for the first year and a half 😛. lol
