I would like to see the entire gang transported to another dimension at the beginning of the season after the apocalypse taking place. The Senior Partners would have moved them there in order to preserve Angel and prevent him from turning Human. The season, or at least a part of it would then take place in this dimension which is very unlike our world. The sky is red, the clouds are black and the shadows are like dust creeping around you. The wind blows like wildfire and the rain burns like acid.
Basically Illyria would then recognise this world and this would be the home dimension of an old enemy of hers. While Angel starts to scout this world he realises its inhabitants are all taken from other dimensions. Almost like its a prison, a dimension created and generated for the sole purpose of storing people - a timeless dimension where time stands still but they can still move around (this is what would prevent Angel from turning human, since he cannot make the change if time does not pass). If youre killed in this dimension you would end up in eternal pain and suffering as time would stand still at the moment of your death.
