What would you tell yourself at the age of 18?

Well since I'm freaking out over getting into grad school I'd probably tell 18 year old me to take his first year of college more seriously so I wouldn't have to rely so much on a damn standardized test to get me into a good school. Haha can you sense my frustration?

I would quote Cordelia Chase - "If you make it past 21, things get a lot better!"

I'd tell myself to dare ask that girl out before it's too late. I'd definately tell myself to win over my shyness and try harder at getting a girlfriend.

Maybe then I wouldn't skip school a few days every week and my grades wouldn't suck. I don't care too much about that though, the only thing I wish I did differently was ask my crush out before it was too late. 🙁

You know all those things you learned on your own? You are going to need all of them.

Don't worry about being labelled a geek or a nerd, you have a remarkable career ahead of you. You know all those people you knew in high school who were fascinated by space flight but somehow never got the qualifications to do anything and fell away into boring jobs? You will be designing spacecraft.

When your future wife appears (next year), you will know it instantly, so don't worry about lack of success with girls.

Your sense of humour will be half of what keeps you alive. Your dogs will be the other half.

There is a reality to religion, but it doesn't even remotely resemble what you have been told. The reality makes sense, commercial religion does not.

If you can't understand how something could possibly work, it probably doesn't.

You are on a path. You will learn what you need to know in time to use it. You have a destiny.

Marriage and children in your future are not as insurmountable a difficulty as you imagine.

I would tell 18 year old me to shut up and get over it. To let go of societal conventions that are holding me back. To just be me. I'd tell myself to go watch Buffy (I didn't do that till 19) then go watch Supernatural. I'd tell myself to let myself love television the way I love television. I'd tell myself to say ADIOS to the problematic and hurtful friends in my life and embrace the friends who are truly there for me. And I'd tell myself to actually work harder in school, because I'm not proving my intelligence or even my work ethic... I'm baring through it so I can prove my intelligence.

Don't be so hard on yourself and others. You are much nicer than you think. People are much nicer than you think. The most important things in life are not to get a job people envy and to have a boyfriend or a girlfriend. It's much more important to find a job YOU feel happy with and to love yourself. We're all in this together and you will be a lot happier when you realise that and stop treating life like it's a competition. Please take care. I love you.

I would tell my 18 year old self to take advantage of my surroundings, and participate in all of the opportunities offered while you can. They may not seem cool the time but they are things you will regret if you let pass by.

"You're blessed...challenge yourself to share this reminder with the rest."

I'm very thankful, I haven't had any major regrets in the past 6 years since the age of 18. What I could've done better perhaps is sharing that peace and joy with the rest of the world.

Don't open up your heart to just anyone... particularly girls, they'll end up shattering it with a well placed kick. 🙁

/emo mode off

😛

Seriously though, I'd tell myself to take certain things more earnestly. I'd also point out to my younger self that the funniest path might not always end up being the best path.

I'd tell myself to relax and have more fun.

I'd tell myself to get more involved with my university, join clubs, go to events, and meet more people. The time goes by SO fast, and then it's the real world, so enjoy it to the fullest while it lasts!!!
