True, but in fairness to James, he started smoking because of Spike. They made him smoke, and he got addicted. He walked around with a patch and all. He does not like smokes. He asked from the producers of Buffy that they don't show him actually taking a drag, because he didn't want to set bad example to kids who like him.

And I didn't know he started again. Doesn't mean he loves cigarettes though.

No he didn't. he smoked before Spike. He did walk around with a patch and all and actually decided to quit shortly after they hired him for season 4... and he was trying to get Spike to smoke less on screen because he wnated to set an example, but Spike was not the reason he started smoking.

I know he doesn't love cigarettes, and I know this particular topic means more to me than it should, but I still don't like it at all... and I still feel kinda betrayed. I know I really have no right to... but I'm very senstive about this topic

I read that it was because of Spike's character.
Hey, you watch many many many James videos, do you happen to know one that he says that?

And you don't know how much I'm with you on the cigarettes thing. I'm one of the biggest cigarette haters in the world! My whole family smoke(ed). My dad had a withdraw, cold turkey. And my mom is trying this days to quick after smoking for the past 40 years, she payed about 500 dollars for quitting help. My brother thinks it's cool, so I suspect he does it seceretly, because I've seen signs every where. And my expended family smokes too. I was the only one who doesn't, and alway had a smoke smell on me. My father has many problems now because of the smoking. He's in great danger.

So trust me, I understand all about that issue. And I hate it to about James, I did feel betrayed because of that. Also SMG, who tried smoking. I have so much respect for her, but it disappointed me big time.

felt like an attack to me

I'm very sorry that you felt attacked. I did not mean to come across that way, and I apologize.

Spike is a very complex character, and James does a TERRIFIC job portraying him. He brings a lot to the plot. There are things I love about him, including when he refused to give up Dawn to Glory -- even believing, from his perspective, that Buffy would never know about the sacrifice he was making; and when he saved Buffy from dancing herself into flames. The show wouldn't be the same without Spike.

Ain't that the truth!

I don't know a video off the top of my head, but I know I've heard him say he started smoking when he was yonger and the role of Spike made him smoke longer than he would have had he not had it because he HATED the taste of the fake cigarettes they gave him for Spike and was like "fine. I'll smoke real ones."

I do have a video link where he says he plans to quit again soon because his band would be furrious with him that he started again... but I'll look around for another video where he talks about smoking, if you like.

I saw this his January Q&A

Is the reason Spike did not smoke on the last season of Angel because you quit smoking?

I tried to minimize Spike’s smoking the whole time, knowing that kids were watching, and hating the herbal cigarettes that I had to smoke. Spike didn’t smoke on “Angel” because I had more power then.

See? these are the kind of smokers I can respect a little. Because they want to quit. For many years I bugged my mother to quick, even warned her that it might hurt me. And I asked her if she even wanted to quit, and she said no. I totally felt even a little hatred toward her. Because I felt that her cigarettes were more important to her than me. Only in the past few weeks when my father's non-health was recognized, she decided she didn't want to end up like him. So she finally said she wants to quit.

So thank you James. You did a mistake by started smoking. But you're showing the will to quit. And that's A LOT for smokers!

There really aren't a lot of things I don't like about Angel. I hate his makeup in "Lie to Me" and his hair in the first few episodes of S5. I have to switch my screen to black and white so I can watch his scenes in "Lie to Me" without cringing constantly, and I can barely look at him when his hair looks so ridiculous in S5. The wig from the flashback to the doughnut shop is pretty horrible too.

Hmm...I suppose I'm disappointed in him when he tries to lose his soul by sleeping with Darla, because he's only focusing on the evil in the world and despairing over it despite the fact that there's so much good too, and that will always be worth fighting for. But he gets an epiphany and Connor out of that moment, so I can forgive it. The rest of the stuff he does when he's in dark mode is kind of scary but awesome, which is why I can't hate him for locking Darla and Dru in with the roomful of lawyers even though I know that's wrong.

Oh, and in "Loyalty" when he says "At least I would have had something to snack on." He's talking about baby Connor. He's making a joke about drinking his infant son's blood. That's not funny, Angel. It also isn't funny when he says his parents tasted like chicken. Or the similar comment he makes in the preview pages from Angel and Faith #1. For a guy who is notoriously good at beating himself up over things he really had no control over, he can be shockingly irreverent about them at times.

And why--why--did he tolerate Harmony? There are plenty of secretaries who are neither soulless nor undead that he could have hired instead. This is probably just carryover from how much Harmony bugs me. And I don't like how he goes out with Nina even though he knows it can't go anywhere in the long run, but at least he's a good boyfriend to her while it lasts.

what do you mean switch to black and white in lie to me?

Usually I watch the show on my laptop. So for "Lie to Me", I just switch the screen to black and white mode, because that way I don't have to be distracted by how bright red Angel's lips are.

Oh. I do not think I ever once looked at Angel's lips.... you are a bit neurotic then, yeah? to watch the whole episode in black and white just because his lips are a bit colorful.

It's only really intolerable during the scene where he's in Willow's room, which is also when her lips are this dark maroon color that makes no sense given that a) she normally looks like she doesn't wear much makeup and b) she's in her pajamas.

Seriously though, they are bright pink.

Alright. I love Angel. But I can't stop laughing at this! *giggles
I dislike Spike's never ending need to be part of a group. It's always so important to him. Probably too important. And I find it irritating. I think that Spike fears spending time alone and facing some kind of introspection. In other words, I think he is a afraid of being alone because he fears facing himself. And he fears facing himself, because I suspect he is still somewhat insecure.

Maybe he's born with it; maybe it's Maybelline.

He could have given SMG a run for her money 😉
