I just listened to the radio version of The Empire Strikes Back, and I was surprised at liking it more than the movie (despite having to alter some dialog and scenes to fit a radio format, but it also added more, and would not be surprised if the a lot of the extra dialog had been cut from the original script released to cinema that was now restored for the radio version).
That is until I guess the last half hour or so, primarily where Luke confronts Vader. I'm not sure why. I can nitpick (including scenes before that), but for me I think it's that rather than showing Luke being completely wrecked, the one who had to be saved rather than the savior, and giving the impression (in the film) that he was ONLY strong at the end for his friends (as they were for him) instead of just collapsing into despair, he is instead shown as too cavalier about the psychological torment and amputation forced upon him (and realizing just how far Vader was out of his league, an insecurity that follows him in the next film despite his trying to cover it up).
The acting skills were great, it's just that I think they portrayed Luke wrong, and thus took away the gut punch of it, and thus how awesome it is to see him bounce back and grow from that in the next film, being very different on the next confrontation (but still not perfect).
Still, it was a serviceable ending. It's just now I kinda want to rent the movie, mostly to see the ending better played out.

I listened to radio versions of Star Wars decades ago. I wonder if yours are the same ones. I did think they were well done.

Neighbours 2023 😀
Had to check out this stream revival of a network TV classic from the British and Australian markets . Yeah not bad for a soap so far . I am curious to see how they dole out the episodes . I think Neighbours was 5 episodes per week in it's heyday . They'll need to drop 2-3 a week minimum to capture the old fanbase .
