What're you reading?

So, I'm just curious about everyone's reading habits. What are you currently reading?

I of course just finished up catching up on Buffy season 8, just waiting for #37 coming out in 2 days! And I ordered the SFX Worlds of Whedon special issue online.

I just finished Janet Evanovich's Metro Girl, and I'm hooked! I'm going to start reading some of her other stuff, as well as the next one with the Metro Girl main character. It was an easy read, though, finished it in a weekend.

Over the summer I read Isabel Allende's [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Zorro-Novel-Isabel-Allende/dp/0060778970"]Zorro[/ame]. She is one of my fav authors, and I've read pretty much everything she's published.

I'm currently reading In the Name of Salomé by Julia Alvarez. I also am going to start on Charlaine Harris' first book in the Sookie Stackhouse series. I've got PC Cast's House of Night first book on reserve at the library- yeah, I know it's young adult fiction, but it's supposed to be good and the setting is the city where I live.

I'm also re-reading [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Pushed-Painful-Childbirth-Modern-Maternity/dp/0738210730"]Pushed: The Painful Truth About Childbirth and Modern Maternity Care[/ame]. Excellent book, and I try to keep up to date on these issues since I run a local chapter of [ame="http://www.ican-online.org/"]ICAN[/ame] (International Cesarean Awareness Network).

Can anybody recommend any good sci fi for me? I've got access to my dad's extensive collection (that my mom will not get rid of ever I think, even though he died 4 yrs ago). I need to re-read Anne McCaffrey's Dragonriders of Pern series (read it as a kid), and I like Isaac Asimov.

If you haven't read the Watchers by Dean Koontz, do so immediately. It's one of my top 10 books of all time.

I'm almost done reading Amber Benson's Among the Ghosts, but BB always seems to catch my attention lol

Eat, Pray, Love is also another good one I can recommend.

Other than that, I doubt you'd be interested in the kind of stuff I usually read. I'm an ocean nerd, so I'm always reading reasearch, articles, etc. However, if anyone has any great scifi books to recommend, i'm all ears!

Just started Jane Austen's Mansfield Park.

Can anybody recommend any good sci fi for me? I've got access to my dad's extensive collection (that my mom will not get rid of ever I think, even though he died 4 yrs ago). I need to re-read Anne McCaffrey's Dragonriders of Pern series (read it as a kid), and I like Isaac Asimov.

If you don't mind some YA stuff there's the Hunger Games trilogy. They're dystopian sci-fi/fantasy and their pretty popular right now. I have the last one on hold at the library. 🙂

I haven't read them yet, but they came highly recommended to me, too. The girls in my school just raved about the books and the fact that it takes place in our state.

I'm also reading The Importance of Being Earnest.

I need to finish Good Omens and Lord of the Flies.

And lastly, I need to start and finish The Chocolate War.

Right now I'm reading "Sports physiology for coaches" which is great... if you're into that kind of stuff 😉

Otherwise I'm reading "Slaughterhouse V" - haven't gotten into it yet so I'll reserve judgement till later

as well as "A midsummer night's dream", "Peer Gynt" and "In search of lost time (pt 4: Sodom & Gomorrah)"

I can't read one book at a time 😀
The last three I've already read but I always enjoy re-reading a good story. I'm thinking of giving one of the Harry Potters another go soon

Oh I love The importance of being Earnest, absolutely love. One of my favorites, way up there with Waiting for Godot

I've been in the mood for light, chick-lit books lately. I've just finished re-reading 'Anybody Out There?' by Marian Keyes, and have started a Sophie Kinsella, 'Twenties Girl'.

A lot of the time I read fanfic. I can load them up on my phone to read on the train. So if we're counting fic, I just finished a re-read of Sideways by GoldenUsagi and am currently reading a Willow/Angel, Spike/Buffy fic by Velvetwhip.

Oh and I'm reading a couple of pages of the Whedon SFX special each day.

I just started reading Tad Williams' The Dragonbone Chair. I've started reading it when I was twelve or something but only made it through halfway and remember the world being very heavily influenced by Tolkien, and the prose is very purple, but I still like it so far.

I just finished Terry Pratchett's Equal Rites and Wyrd Sisters before that, which I of course loved unconditionally.

I'm also finally trying to get into audio books and listening to Ally Carter's Heist Society. I really enjoy it so far, it's fun, surprisingly interesting, has great characters and is very well-written. I was looking for something easy to listen to while gaming and stayed for the storytelling.

^I loved Wyrd Sisters - the Witches novels are amongst my favourites from the Discworld books.

I'm currently reading Fingersmith by Sarah Waters (who wrote Tipping the Velvet). I'm actually really enjoying, so long as I block out all the feminism in it 😛

I need to read Ibsen's A Doll's House for my A-Level group and may have to reread some old favs like An Inspector Calls and Of Mice and Men to teach them in the next few weeks.

I like a lot of YA fiction but I didn't like House of Night. The first couple were good, then they got worse and worse. The most recent one, I didn't even finish. Vampire Academy was much better IMO. I love Richelle Mead in general.

I'm listening to the 11th book in the Wheel of Time series again to refresh my memory so I can finally read the most recent one.

I'm reading Graceling for the 2nd time also to refresh my memory so I can read the sequel. It's really good.

Definitely. From what I've read so far, the Witches and The City Watch novels are my favourite by far.

I'm reading Graceling for the 2nd time also to refresh my memory so I can read the sequel. It's really good.

You don't have to re-read the Graceling to read Fire, it's not really much of a sequel, more of a companion story set in the same universe, before Graceling. There is only one character that appears in both stories and that's

Also, IMO, Fire is much better than Graceling, because it actually has sympathetic main characters. I really wanted to set Katsa and Po on fire at the end of Graceling. :mad2:

What do you think of it? I totally don't get the hype, thought the main character was super annoying and that the book really wasn't 'bout anything. 🙂 If you like it maybe you can teach my how to appriciate it more. 🙂

I recently finished the sci-fi novel Unwind by Neal Shusterman. I recommend it! Easily one of my favourite novels.

I'm currently reading The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. I'm about half way through, and am really enjoying it.

I am reading The Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett and it's fascinating. It takes place in the 12th century.

I am also reading The TV Writers Workbook which is proving very, very helpful. I highly reccommend it for anyone who is attempting to write a script (as I am).

I'm reading Emma. I started it a few weeks back, and I'm kinda stuck in the beginning because I've been so busy lately with school that it's been hard to sit down and read anything lately! I hate that! Ah well... It's good so far. Hopefully the ending is better than the ending to Mansfield Park!

Reading Dante's Divine Comedy. Just finished Inferno, starting Purgatorio. I'm not going to lie, it's not an easy read. But it is interesting....once you get past all the footnotes.


Just finished Max Brooks (I think?) The Zombie Survival Guide. A classic.
