What're you reading?

I just finished reading all of the House of Night books...it has it's ups and downs, but overall I find the idea interesting though I wouldn't say it's the highest quality writing, and sometimes, I just don't get the characters thinking. Can't wait for the next book though.

I recently started Veronika Decides to Die...interesting book so far...not extremely exciting though, but I can't wait to see the movie (if it ever makes it's way to the U.S.)!!

Also reading Buffy season 8, and soon catching up on Angel...haven't read since about issue 20 though I have them all.
 
Norwegian Wood by Haruki Murakami. I'm enjoying it so far. I'm also working my way through A Short History of the Printed Word by Warren Chappell which is interesting if you want to know the history of printing as seen by way of typography. (because I know you do, =P)

I started reading the Night world series. Just got done with secret vampire. I was reading Generation dead but couldn't find the next one so went with this. It is interesting so far. Same author as the vampire diaries so I am used to the tone.

I absolutely cannot stand Holden Caulfied but I adore the book, which is odd as he is the main character lol.

It's hype doesn't really ring true any more but if you think about 1950s America and the emergence of the teenager and all the fears that went with it (see James Dean films lol) then you can kind of see what the fuss was then. Personally, I think it's still a book that has some relevance today. Where as Salinger was looking at the fears and insecurities of parents and adults not being able to understand the hormones and feelings of an emotional teenager and thus thinking it was something bigger than it really was, it's kind of the teenagers (obviously not all, but some) who think that way now.

Sorry, slightly off topic but it's kind of impossible for me to turn down the opportunity to talk books...😛

There's actually a current discussion among educators as to whether the book is still relevant to today's students.

I definitely think the book still has relevance but yeah, I too have some issues with Holden eventhough I love the book :)
I'm just finishing up 'Salem's Lot by Stephen King, and others I plan to read during October are:

Dracula, Frankenstein, The Shining, The Haunting of Hill House, and Let the Right One In.

A Halloween-themed month of reading, eh?
Almost finished with City of Bones by Cassandra Clare. It was good, it kept me reading but the other two books are apparently better.

I adore that series. :)
"ON The Prowl," which consists of four short stories about werewolves, written by Patricia Briggs, Eileen Wilks, Karen Chance, and Sunny. It was recommended by my sister in law. I haven't gotten very far into it yet, but the first story, "Alpha And Omega," is starting out like a supernatural soap opera. Hopefully, it'll improve further on.

If not, there's always Edgar Rice Burroughs' "John Carter Of Mars" trilogy, which I really do want to re-read before the (hopefully) first movie of three comes out next year.
 
The last book I read was One Day by David Nicholls. Brilliant, brilliant book.

I think I'm going to try and tackle the ginormous piles of books that I have accumulated over the past couple years but never had the chance to read. So I think I'll start reading Betty Smith's A Tree Grow's in Brooklyn, this afternoon.

That's really interesting! I've studied filmhistory at college so now the books makes more sense. I read it a long time ago and didn't think about it in that way then since I knew nothing about the whole emergence of the teenager then, but now I understand why it has become such a classic more! Thanks!

And that's also really interesting what you are saying Visiongirl, about the discussion. Have they reached any conclusions?

At the moment I am reading "Love letters of Great Men". This is one of the great books which you obviously can read from time to time - a few letters.

Another book I am reading is "The Devil Wears Prada" (again).

Well, by reading it I mean I've read the first page. 😀 I've liked that much of it. Really, I'm just reading it for school because we have to choose a bunch of related texts to our area of study.
 
I've been reading the Anita Blake series for a while, but I stopped. It's getting boring. I need to get through book 9, but I can't stand Edward, which is making it harder. That and Jean Claude is no where to be found.

But I've been reading Jay's Journal. It's really good. It's published by the same person that found Go Ask Alice. It's really interesting. Go Ask Alice is one of my favorite books. Honestly, if you've ever done drugs, it's a fantastic wake up call...

2) The Encyclopedia of Witchcraft and Demonology by Robbins

Riveting stuff!
 
I've just started City of Ashes, the 2nd book of the Mortal of Instruments series. Hope it's just as good!
