What're you reading?

just finished the last vampire academy. so good! loved it. almost as addictive as twilight (the books of course. the movies are just rubbish). i'm also in the middle of 'never let me go' by kazuo ishiguro.

i tried reading the 'strange angels' series but just couldn't get through it. so boring. i actually skipped chapters (and the books aren't thick either)
 
I recently finished 'Shoe addicts anonymous' and I picked up 'Secrets of a shoe addict' from the same author because I have a long flight coming up soon. I recommend the first one for sure, it was a fun read. Kind of similar to Sex and the City.
 
I just finished The Lace Reader by Brunonia Barry. Nice read, not the huge 'ooooh' moment at the end that some of the reviews predicted, but still enjoyable.

I've started Notwithstanding by Louis de Bernière on the side and I'm really enjoying it so far.
I'm also in the middle of Robin Hobb's Royal Asassin (book 2 in The Farseeer Trilogy).

My best friend is also forcing Chicklit on me as easy inbetween-read, but I must say it just doesn't appeal to me. She's been trying to get me hooked on Kinsella's books and I thought The Undomesticated Goddess was fun, but nothing special. Then she also gave me The 3 shopaholic books and because I was looking to start something new I started the first one but I gave up, it just annoyed me :/

So now I'm torn on what to start. I have a huge tower of books I still haven't read, but in true libra-esque fashion it's always hard to pick.
I'm leaning towards The curious incident of the dog in the night-time by Mark Haddon. Or possibly The Crimson Petal and the White by Michel Faber... anyone read either of these?
 
I'm currently re-reading The Devil Wears Prada. It's not a bad book. Pretty funny! Not one of my favourites though. I'm only re-reading it because I've run out of un-read books. So this will tide me over until I can go buy something else!
 
I've just finished Steig Larsson's series The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and so on. They were absolutely fantastic and, I'd argue, get better as they go on. I read the last one (750 pages) in a day - man, I love school holidays - it was just so awesome. I definitely recommend them. An incredibly solid story and really well written.

I've just started All the Pretty Horses by Cormac McCarthy. He has a very intriguing writing style and I'm finally getting used to the fact that the guy is not a fan of commas!

I tried & failed to read McCarthy- I just couldn't follow him. It's been a long time, though, I should probably try again.
I'm on the ninth Anita Blake novel, Obsidian Butterfly. For anyone who loves strong women killing vampires, I recommend this series. My fav character is Jean-Claude.

I'm also reading Thank You for Smoking. It's interesting to say the least.

Also, Interview with A Vampire. VERY different from the movie and I don't know how I'm just now reading it...

I usually read a few books at a time so I don't get bored with one book. But the Anita Blake novels always take most of my attention. She's an amazing author.

I recently finished Last Sacrifice. It's the last in The Vampire Academy series.

I wanted her to end up with Adrian, not Dimitiri.
But you can't always get what you want, right?

you did? nah i felt sorry for him but i always knew who she belonged with hehe :D i found like 3 mistakes in the book tho! (nonsensicalness, word repetition...). i was like 'does anyone proof read this before it goes out?? :P'

Ugh! I had a feeling she would end up with Dimitri, why does everything have to be so - predictable. The chance for Rose/Andrian SHOULD have been taken.

Is that a good series? Recommended?

Right now I'm reading a boo called "Heartshaped box" by Joe Hill, about a guy who buys a ghost and it ain't a nice one... pretty good so far.

And I'm reading Les Mis because I went to the library to find something 'happy' like Marian Keyes and whenever I do I always fail miserably :tongue3:

Yes, this is a really fantastic series, despite the way it ends as far as ships go. lol.
Right now I'm reading Freedom by Jonathan Franzen. Impressed, very very impressed.
 
Flannen agrees: I love Mark Twain. Try A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court - very different but still excellent!

Its geared more toward young adult but its not as silly as most so I would, yes.
