What're You Reading?

I'm re-reading the "John Carter Of Mars" trilogy by Edgar Rice Burroughs in preparation for the release of the movie next year. It's still one of my all time favorite stories and characters, but I had forgotten just how formal and stilted Burroughs' writing style is. Everyone speaks of themselves in the third person, and I'm halfway through the second book, and I haven't found a dozen contractions as of yet. As I said, Burroughs tells a helluva story here, but getting through his dialog is like plowing rocky ground.

So, what are you reading or planning to read once you get the time?

I just finished reading Swordspoint by Ellen Kushner - absolutely stunning novel.

At the moment, I'm halfway through The Fall of the Kings, by Delia Sherman and Ellen Kushner. It's pretty good so far, although I still prefer Swordspoint.

Once I finished that novel (I plan to finish it today), I'm going to read The Privilege of the Sword by Ellen Kushner. Notice a theme? 😀

I'm planing rereading all the Harry Potter books once my school ends, which is in less that a month. Right now, I'm reading the first novel of PLL.

I just finished "Whispers of the Dead", the third David Hunter novel by Simon Beckett and have now started a reread of the Lord of the Rings. I've been meaning to do that for ages, but I haven't been able to concentrate on anything longer than a short story for I don't know how long. Unemployment rocks 🙂

I'm reading 'Free Will: A Short Introduction' by Thomas Pink for my metaphysics module. For an introductory book it's rather convoluted but it's quite handy for getting to grips with things like action.

I can't wait until exams are over so I can read The Magus by John Fowles.

I'm reading Pride and Prejudice. At times it can be kinda hard to understand, but i really like it 🙂

Re-reading LOTR....it's just as classic as a book can get! Also just finished the first three Dune books by Frank Herbert. Definately would recommend those to anyone who enjoys science-fiction but also intelligent writing.

After watching the extras on the Buffy DVD's, I'm catching up on all Shakespeare I have not read before. My daughter thought it was awesome when I was having her read the part of the "Weird sisters" in MacBeth that they used for the song semi-early in the movie "Prisoner of Azkaban."

I'm currently reading "The Book of Job" and the "Song of Solomon" along with some Higher Criticism texts and "The origin of Satan" , all fascinating stuff 🙂

I'm re-reading Harry Potter. I was left with a huge hole when I finished reading Stieg Larsson's Millenium trilogy and HP was the only thing that could fill it.

I'm really looking forward to catching up with reading this summer. I have a whole array from Ian McEwan to Les Mis and Crime and Punishment on my shelves waiting.

I'm currently reading Dante's Inferno. Beautiful, yet incredibly scary poems of what Dante assumed Hell to be like. One of the most confusing books I've ever read, but bloody brilliant.

I've recenly finished Dead Souls, finished Sense and Sensibility (words cannot express how much I love Jane Austen) and I'm now reading The Scarlett Letter (which, so far..has surprised me and I like it a lot).

Recently finished the first two Night World volumes- spectacular. I love how each story can be ready individually, yet they all work better together... and Quinn makes my list of guys who make me wish I was straight. Jeez, and I'm not even a huge vampire fan anymore, but Quinn doesn't angst quite as much as Edward Cullen or Angel... :rolleyes2:

I got the first three volumes for $12.15, so I'm happy. And it's spectacular. Though I swear, I thought Sumire was older... what is she, thirteen? What do they DO in Japan? Do they like, mature at double speed or something?
