In the first ep we are introdused to the main cast.

And Mr. Giles.
Who just in a few scenes later is never called that again not by the gang not by us. Its just Giles the Mr. is droped almost immediately.
Though out the show everyone gets a shorter version of there name something not normaly seen on a TV show. But on Buffy makes a sort of sence.
Then in rapid susession everbodys gets shorter.

Cordila=Cordie or Cordy (I seen both before oddly enough)
Drusilla=Dru
But its not just the cast with long names that get the ax even the shortest of names gets shorter over time.

Anya=An wich on paper or screens looks odd as its just the first sylible of her name.
