Saw this on the news tonight. Orcas are teaching each other to ram and sink boats. Whats your theory? Why are they doing it? Something in the water? Or original orca trauma?


“The orcas are doing this on purpose, of course, we don’t know the origin or the motivation, but defensive behavior based on trauma, as the origin of all this, gains more strength for us every day,” he added.

Orcas are extremely intelligent and always work together. There's nothing in the water influencing their behaviour....they know what they're doing. Humans are a big threat to creatures of the sea (and everywhere else, actually). These Orcas are teaching their young a survival tactic. And I definitely approve of this. Ram the boat, sink the human! 😁

They're not whales...they're actually cousins of the dolphin, and dolphins are possibly the smartest creatures in the ocean. Orcas are just huge dolphins. And they're not afraid of sharks; they often hunt them.

So, when will them Killer Whales become known as Butcher Whales?
i read in Portugal and Spain in 2020 a pod of orcas rammed and turned over boats, but sailors were harpooning them. There's the memory they have and possible revenge against the sailors. I watched Orca some years ago and believe that orcas hurt by man seek revenge against them. However orcas have never found people as food or attacked them. More than one instance orcas have saved humans from drowning and shark attacks. I think they are capable of it though. Recently reading and seeing footage of orcas killing sharks, taking their livers and eating them has turned me of liking them. Both orcas and sharks are apex predators but both are needed and I believe sharks are misunderstood and are needed just as much as orcas and needed to be protected from their rivals in some way.

They've pretty much determined that it was one female orca (whose name I don't recall at the moment) that had a traumatic experience with a boat and she is teaching the others to attack them.
 
Ok we're settled on original orca trauma and not zombie whales. So boring, so... Human. Haha.

It does hold true in that the orca community near me apparently does not ram boats. It "races to greet them"

They recognise the sound of our vessel and without hesitation come racing over to greet us. Through time spent respecting our orcas over the years we have built an incredible relationship with these amazing creatures. The research we do onboard every tour through photo ID and family tree work has added a huge amount of knowledge, We work with local and International researchers to make sure we get to know these orca intimately.

One of my friends rekons the desalination plants are making the sharks more aggressive. I certainly hear a lot more about shark encounters now than I ever have and I am at the beach and around surfers far less often (never) now. Others that do fishing say the food for big sharks is limited now. I duno, all I know is that I shall be staying off boats!
 
Sounds like a idea. Orcas are I guessing more dangerous then Dolphins since they meat eaters what with then attacking whales . Not that I seen that myself.
 
I live in an area with a lot of orcas, and never heard of them deliberately attacking a boat, though sometimes they will "play" with a small boat, and cause damage. I can believe what @Angelkiss says about the Spanish harpooning them, because they are usually pretty friendly to humans. (If they knew we are destroying their food stocks, they might feel differently, and rightly so!)
 
And in the Water they have the advantage so they taking control i gathered.
 
Meanwhile we have Jellyfish, so.many.jellyfish.

I'll take the jellyfish over whatever Australia has going on.

What's this, Orca's attacking boats?
I know why they do that!
The Orca's were told a producer of the film Free Willy was on the boat, they hated that film.
