What's in the water?

Has any public testing of the water been done? (I bet some testing was done, but corporations are pretty good at keeping most things like that under wraps, and out of public scrutiny.)

I'm remembering where fish started to...hold on, I'm not going to wrack my memory for it, just this:

Concern among scientists increased when fish in the Potomac River and elsewhere were found to have both male and female characteristics when exposed to estrogen-like substances, she says. For instance, some fish had both testes and an ovary, she says.

Scientists starting looking at the effects of oral contraceptives first, she says. "Now analyses have expanded to look at other drugs," Janssen says.

Drugs, like say the growing number of psychiatric medicines that even chemical treatment seems unable to get out of the water? Water that flows into the ocean? The same drugs linked to many inexplicable behavior changes not desired in humans, even violent psychosis?

Just one possibility.

Another is that maybe the orcas got some good drugs from the yacht parties (either given to them or dropped) and now seek to bump more off into the water. (Reindeer have knocked down people on shrooms after they peed just to eat the snow with the shrooms still in the pee, and lots of animals seek intoxication in the wild.)

I'm not inclined to think of either, but if it's spreading, and other animals are doing it, then it seems more likely.

I'd think that maybe it was always going on (lots of animal attacks never get reported), and I dismiss what one scientist said out of hand for good reason (he sounded like he learned about animals from Disney movies than field study), but the consensus does seem this is new. And I'm remembering things like this:

They should be glad the orcas didn't attack their boats to get at that penguin. They'd have an understandable motive for doing so. (Not thinking of revenge on their part, just to knock their lunch back into the water.)

Did those groups doing the testing chuck the waste plastic in the water?
Now,
not all Orca's are fanatics of the Climate Change debate, but some are.
They know that not many ships are powered by electric motors so they are attacking the boats not the humans on board those boats/ ships.
It might be said that desalination plants are reducing the amount of water in the sea in contrast to heating the sea water increases the size of the water which will cause less land be available to the humans to live on.
What causes the antarctic ice and snow to produce extra melt, extra when compared to natural processes, plus the water is bloody cold down there.
The Whales, the Sharks and the Dolphins are glad that Orca's are taking the heat by being noted for attacking boats and ships, it means they can help get the diesel spilling boats out of the worlds oceans and keep the plastic chuckers out of the water.
Now what we ought to be watching out for are who-ever is teaching them mammals how to play with matches near petrol or diesel powered craft.

All these months later, there are still orca attacks on boats being reported. One sailor off the Iberian peninsula was able to outrun an orca pod in May.
But his second encounter with the animals in November was less civil.

This time, to deter them, the crew also tried another idea that had been passed along: booming a curated playlist of heavy metal — titled “Metal for Orcas” — through an underwater speaker. But the animals had moved quickly, targeting the rudder and disabling the boat’s steering. The crew had to call for help, and eventually Spanish rescue authorities arrived and towed the vessel to port.

Perhaps they should hire an expert, @Anyanka Bunny Slayer, to curate a more effective playlist of loud music. It works on her neighbors! 😈

Perhaps they should do what the Royal Air Force did. They were having a problem with bird ingestion into engines on aircraft taking off and they decided to determine if music would deter them from staying near runways. The RAF investigated all types of music and found that Queen was the most unpopular among birds and reduced the bird strikes considerably. Freddy Mercury may be gone, but his ability to repel birds lives on. Maybe it would work with orcas as well.
