What's the musical genre of the Angel intro?

I've been wondering lately. I can't quite place it. Closest I can think of is folk, but I'd think jazz is more appropriate for noire (which I tend to think of Angel as mixed with urban fantasy), and I vaguely recall a jazz performance with a violin that sounded a little like it. I also remember a folk song with a violin that sounded similar to the Angel theme. I can't recall titles or band names. It also kind of reminds me of some darkwave (heavy with the violin) I've heard before as well.

Anyone care to label it or list bands (or their works) that sound like it?

Good question, I never really thought about it. Truthfully, I didn't like the Angel theme anywhere near as much as I liked the Buffy one. I skipped it most of the time. I'd describe it a modern strings? A bit like those violin rock musicians that were big in the late 90s. But I thought the main instrument was cello? I'm no expert.

Its funny you mention it now, this played on my youtube the other day - fun background noise!

Not exactly the same, but a quirky cello sound, I enjoyed this when I heard it

And now I am going to go down this youtube rabbit hole all night lol.

Especially as I didn't think of the cello (I should've).

I heard the intro a few nights ago and was in the mood to hear other music like it but didn't know where to look. This will help me zero in to a new group to play.

it was not enough to call the group, 'Dingoes Ate My Baby', you now refer to some poor cello playing as Didgeridoo.
