Whats the story of Spike

Hello,in some threads i have read here I keep seeing certain posts that seem to wish Spike had died in season 2. Others of course are glad he never died,and I'm sure theres a diversity of opinion in between. I,for one loved Spike in every season of BTVS and Angel. Even so I think it would have been fitting for him to be the "big bad" for season 6. I'm not bothered that he wasn't,nor that he didn't die,i just think it would have made for a better villain than dark willow. ANYWAY,to the point 😛...how and where would you like to see Spike end,or would you want him to end at all? Which season of Buffy or Angel would see Spike fall,and who would do it..Angel? Buffy? Would he be ensouled or soulless..would his death be heroic or a last gasp of villainy. What is Spikes destiny? 🙂

Have you ever seen the ending of "The Ghost And Mrs Muir?" That's the way that I see Buffy and Spike in the end. (I tried to find it on Youtube, but no luck)

As for Spike's destiny? I think that he and Angel will have their fates intertwined with Slayers for centuries to come, Spike as a trusted friend and beloved mentor, and Angel as a four armed monkey guarding the Watchers' Archives.

I was just thinking the other day about how would things be different if Spike had not been chipped? He probably wouldn't have been in so many episodes but wouldn't that have been more interesting? And I wondered if he still would have fallen in love with Buffy and if he still would have sought out his soul (I think yes).

I think after "Chosen", it's difficult to give him a really amazing end simply because he already had it. Death has always been pretty fluid in the Whedonverse, but I don't think of Spike as a character who needs or is heading towards an end. To me, and this is just opinion, he's in the same league as Buffy and Angel as characters I'll always have an interest in and care about.

If it were purely up to me, I'd love to see Spike pushed more at this point as a singles character. I think the potential is there just as it was for Angel. I don't know if they'll ever fully commit to that, finding a suitable supporting cast that accentuates his strengths would be important (as it was for Angel), but I'd be very interested in seeing it.

Spike's story reached a fitting conclusion in "Chosen". Foreshadowing, character's history, personality and themes - it was perfect expiration...and then he was brought back and nobody knows what to do with him, similar to post season 5 Buffy. He was a rebel, now he's an aging rock star selling out in a reality TV to stay relevant.

The way Spike survives "Lover's Walk" and especially "Pangs" is ludicrous. Buffy hates him. He tried to kill her, he killed her friend, he kidnapped her friends, he tried to kill her boyfriend, he tried to rape and kill her friend. He is a monster identical to those she slays every night.

And she doesn't tear that blanket off him and gleefully watch him burn in the sun? Are you kidding me? It's plot armor, plain and simple.

In my opinion hero gig just doesn't suit Spike. Spike works best as a character with other characters when he's a brash, obnoxious asshole telling them how much they suck. He can't do that from a position of authority.

Just striking a deal with Buffy doesn't really make him "dependent" on her, any more than Castle is dependent om Beckett. Spike could help Buffy by providing information gathered from the demon community, and later as hired muscle in her fight against Adam and, later, Glory. Close association could lead to trust, then friendship, and finally, love. Each might, under those circumstances, depend on and trust the other, but it would be a totally symbiotic relationship, each giving and receiving considerations.

Anyhow, it's all just an exercise in conjecture, rewriting established canon to suit our own ideas and feelings. Fun, but just the equivalent of empty calories for the brain.

In my opinion, Spike should have been dusted either late S4 or early S5. I liked him as the bad guy, the bad guy that you jut can't help but like and cheer for, and I liked that he got away in S2 and 3, and I liked his struggle to survive in S4 with the chip.

But the second he sided with Adam should have been his downfall. Instead of Buffy just rolling her eyes and looking the other way in 'Primeval', she should have dusted him for what he put everyone through.

If not then, then he should have been gone early in S5, when he and Harmony were trying to get the chip out. Buffy knew he was looking to get back to his old ways, was dangerous and hurting people.

At the VERY least, he should have been killed in 'Crush'. That was a disgusting episode, and I understand what Buffy was trying to do when she stopped him from entering her home, the one place she felt safe, but she should have realized she wasn't safe from Spike anywhere.

So, yeah, either give me the monster or don't give me anything.

Logically, Spike should have been killed in s4 or early s5, it didn't make sense that Buffy would let him live. (note, this is not what I would have wanted to see happen, but it's what should have happened by logic)

As for what I want, I'm happy with his death in s7, but again I find that Spike is just one of those character that I can't picture dying, he's the type to always scrape by, by some miraculous way. As of now, I just don't think he should be killed, it would further the story in no way.

But right now, Spike isn't actually adding anything to the story by being alive. Allie said it himself, they don't know what to do with him. Joss admitted it, too, by saying he wanted to do a Spike movie but had no idea what the story would be.

Right now, Spike is the new Giles. Joss said during S8 that Giles was pretty much surplus to requirements. So they SPOILERS for S8

I'll agree to disagree here. Spike already had his meaningful death in "Chosen". They already had a chance to better his character and make his journey meaningful. If they've run out of things to do with him, I don't believe killing him is a good idea, because 1. he's not useful now, a death won't make him any more useful 2. I don't think they could even make his death meaningful, and a lot of people just wouldn't care 3. Killing a character because they are useless renders the death useless. Giles' death was still meaningful and packed with emotions because we got to know him throughout the years and we know what he meant to everyone, and his death did have a place in the story, it was integrated into everything, I don't think this would be the case with Spike (unlike his death in s7).

I believe a better alternative is simply removing him from the comic. A death would be fairly pointless and remove the possibilities for future stories that may be better. And there's no way in hell I'd want to see another resurrection.

I agree with this. At least in IDW, Spike had an interesting storyline, one that was well thought out and followed through. With DH, he's just stuck in places where he doesn't fit, like the end of S8 or the beginning of S9. Even his mini didn't really add much to the character and his stint on A&F was like a completely different character.

The only time I think Spike has worked well in the DH comics is the last few issues of S9, when he was supporting Dawn, being their for her. I liked that, I thought it was a good fit for him, and if they DO keep Spike in the main title for S10, I hope they keep him with Dawn, because I think they could really be great together.
