After opening the thread about the best thing in Buffy, I've decided to open a new one for the opposite.
Now, I know we all love the show, that's why we're here. But nothing's perfect, besides me (kidding! I'm not perfect, my hair is kinda dry and I'm too short).

So what's the one thing that, in your opinion, is the worst thing in Buffy (the show)?

Angel returning in Chosen. He was so out of character its not to be believed! Its just like oh we'll COMPLETELY ignore everything Angel's just been through on his own show and have him saunter over to Buffy and be all MUAH MUAH MUAH! That moment is just :banghead2::fuming::cussing: So much hate for it!

On the plus side, I totally just had fun expressing myself through smilies lmao 😀 I'm sure I will think of more, but I hate that so much it gets its own post lol

When Buffy is all sad for a REALLY long time when she comes back, again. Also when Angel leaves. How can you leave your true love?

That sometimes there's out of character moments. Some characters actions are more about making the story work than continuity.

For example, Buffy and the others not dusting Spike in season 4. I can see how some scoobies wouldn't do it immediatly, but Buffy, Giles and Xander should have been very pro staking. It just seems very naive of them not to, since there's way to cause damage without hurting people physically. Like seen in the Primeval. How they couldn't kill him after that, I don't get.

And Xander's behaviour in Once More With Feeling is also OOC. His character was tainted for a big joke.

That's the biggest flaw, and the only one that really bugs me.

On Angel, it would be Angel killing a demon slave. Not a fan of that, but not necassary OOC. Just evil.

Completely agree about Xander, such an OCC moment.
Buffy's character when she went on Angel was slightly OOC I thought, she was much more annoying than she was on her own show.

Also all the Parker moping was a bit much, seemed to go on for ages.

I guess it would be the writers often pandering to the fandom rather than just writing a story. The prominence, utilization or even (continued) existence of certain characters was dependent on fan reaction. I'd say the only 'pure' seasons were 1 and 2. Which isn't to say I don't immensely enjoy what came after that - heck, seasons 1 and 2 aren't even my favorite seasons. 🙂

What I hated about the show

*Vampires taking a back seat in later seasons
*David and James no longer wearing pale make up like in season 2
*Less of a Gothic tone in later seasons
*Andrew being in season 7
*The gangs "don't kill humans" rule. They wouldn't last a week against WRH in LA with that rule
*Angel being under powered in season 1. Season 3 Angel would maul the Master
*Xander being the one that summoned Sweet
*The raping of Spike's character once he got the chip. It killed anything that once made him badass
*Darla using an unlimited ammo cheat against Buffy
*The awful voice over of Giles in season 4
*Random eps placed in important parts of the season. (i'm looking at you "Go Fish")
*The Buffy & Spike "relationship" I think they make for better friends than anything

Yes. I also thought essentially the same thing about Darla and her infinite ammo -__-

There was a very specific reason why Angel was brought back for the Season 7 finale, and it had nothing whatsoever to do with "Angel started the show with Buffy, so it's only fair that he's there for the end." Angel was brought back specifically to remind everyone that there was still a connection between the two characters. Just imagine the screams of anguish that would have been raised from all of the Bangel shippers if Angel had never made that cameo, never kissed Buffy, and we had never been subjected to the famous "cookie dough" analogy, especially when she tells Spike that she loves him. And, no, that is NOT a jab at the Bangels, because I know that the Spuffy shippers would have felt the same way if Spike and Angel had had their roles here reversed. My point is that the Eternal Triangle HAD to be reinforced at the end. There could not be even a suspicion of a settlement to the argument, because Joss has gotten too much mileage out of it in the past, and I firmly believe that he will continue to fuel the argument well into the future.

It took Superman 60 years to finally make the commitment, and I wouldn't be surprised if it takes Buffy at least that long to finally get her cookies properly baked.

Now, as for what I see as the worst thing on the Buffy series, it would have to be Season 4's Big Bad. Adam was a bad cross between the Terminator and a cheap version of an updated Frankenstein monster, complete with mad scientist creator. Buffy's chief opponents should always be 100% supernatural, because that's what the Slayer was created to fight. She is a purely fantasy oriented character. She shouldn't ever cross over into science fiction.

Which is pretty much a telling example why pandering to fan fractions is never a good idea.

My point is that the Eternal Triangle HAD to be reinforced at the end.

Being afraid of pissing off certain fractions isn't a good idea either. Writers should tell their own story, especially if that's what they loudly proclaim whenever asked.

Word.

. Dark Willow, a.k.a the destruction of a once great character.
. Spike with a chip, a.k.a the destruction of a once great character.
. Anya becomes a vengeance demon again, a.k.a the destruction of a once great character. Done with that now.
. Lie to me. Angel asks Buffy if she loves him before he'll reveal his past. What a tosser.
. Angel feeds on Buff before the ascension.
. Xander summons a singing demon that kills people. Never to be mentioned again.
. Amy steals sage, cos it's like totally good sh*t!
. Oz and Riley become bad cheating men and get written out.
. Kralik and Rack look kinda similar 😛.
. A loan shark.
. Buffy's buds spend all her cash, take over her house and she has to work a crappy job to survive. While being severely mentally depressed.
. Willow cheats on Oz. Dumb-ass! Xander cheats on Cordy. Dumb-ass.
. Giles pisses off to England, leaving formerly dead and snatched from paradise Buffy to fend for herself.
. Buffy never punched Rhona in the face.

The destruction of Giles. Leaving Buffy was completely stupid. I know he wants her to grow up, but there is no way that he would abandon her like that. He sarificed his job that he had been preparing for his entire life so he could help her survive. Why would he just take off like that? Then in Season 7 the writers sarificed my favourite character so that Buffy and Spike could hook up, and then put a wedge between the two of them. I felt cheated. Completely.

To much bangel in the earlier seasons got on my nerves as well. Not that I have a huge problem with the ship, I just don't like the way it was portrayed, I felt it was overdone and underdone at the same time.

Agreed. They could have had Giles leave to track down something related to world-saveage, or something, so ASH could go.

Total agreement on the Giles part. Although I do think you bring up an interesting point on B/A being overdone and underdone all at once.

I don't know about that. I heard somewhere that Spike was suppose to die real early in season 2(maybe in What's my line?), but since fans liked him, he was put in a wheelchair. Can't say I complain, I think keeping Spike was a good move ('cept it caused the OOCness of the other characters in season 4 I mentioned in my first post).

You do have a point, even though I think the fan reaction had nothing to do with Joss adding the reunion to the story, I just think it was good for the story for the characters to have some sort of closure. But I would have liked to see Angel mourning Cordy a bit better, the woman he supposedly loved a few weeks/months ago. Plus, the Connor deal, which must have depressed him somewhat as well. I do realize he's had worse shit happen to him, and still recovered relatively quickly, but I don't know, he just seemed way too content in season 7.

I do realize that I could be wrong. I'm just so mad about Angel for a lot of things. On e of them being mindviolating his friends and his son's new "family"(I mean come on, using a evil law foirm to mees with innocents and strangers heads?), another event that should have made him more broody less kissing in End of Days/Chosen.

It's not so much the fact that Angel appears in Chosen, it's his general demeanour throughout that scene that feels horribly innapropriate given the timeline
- Kennedy. I wish she had died at the end of season 7.
- The overall story for season 7, it started out so well and then went down the crapper.
- Spike's death in season 7 being cheapened by his continued story in Angel.
- The nerds, they really annoyed me after a few episodes.
- Dawn stealing in season 6, pointless. We had her whining to make up for her being ignored.
- Buffy not finding out about Connor at the end of season 7. I wanted to see her reaction, if even it had nothing to do with the storyline.
- Not enough for the series finale. There should have been a powerful and epic battle down in the hellmouth before it was blown to smithereens.

*The awful voice over of Giles in season 4

What do you mean by that?

All of season 7, and especially making Giles irrelevant.
