okay, so spike and xander go to the doc and see if he has anything that can help them beat glory, and thats when they find out he's evil and supports her. but do you think if they hadnt gone to see her, he wouldnt have come and cut dawn? he seemed surprised when they inquired about her, which could have been an act, but he also did not seem to have plans to go help glory return home at that point, because it was almost time and he was just calm, and hanging out and home. he might have known what was happening, but been unaware that buffy and co. would be trying to stop her, making the whole job more complicated, and making her need help. basically all this rambling is me wondering if dawn would never even have gotten cut if not for them visiting doc?

I think that if the doc hadnt gone up and done the job then yeah, she probably wouldnt have gotten cut, if that didnt happened then id say that then probably one of Glory's minions would have gone up and done it. Maybe one of the cracy people. if they can built a crappy tower then they can probably cut Dawn too.

I don't know if he was unaware beforehand of what was happening with Buffy and the crew.

Seeing as he did worship Glory, it's possible that he wanted to complete the ritual for her so that he would be in her favour (not taking into account that Giles killed Ben and therefore killed Glory).

I always kind of wondered if Doc knew that Dawn was the key. It's a bit hard to tell because he is such an odd character when we first see him, but I think there's a bit of recognition when he first sees Dawn. Perhaps he did know and thought that Glory would easily take complete the ritual so didn't interfere until the last moment.

plus, he had a strand of her hair and could see the DNA and stuff.

the thing is though, if glory was originally going to do it, then he would not be needed unless she couldnt. and i think she kept saying stuff like 'when i cut you...' to dawn, implying that she would be the one to do it. plus, since she wanted to go in through the portal, it would make sense that she would want to do it herself. thus, unless he knew she was in trouble (which maybe he only found out due to xander and spike), he might not have come at all.

Okay...getting off topic and it's probably been discussed before, but if the monks made Dawn from Buffy would she have Buffy's DNA? But maybe with sort of it's own mystical "key" element which would negate the "slayer" element (slayerism is in the DNA)?

I think when Glory is telling Dawn that she will be the one to cut her, it's some sort of reassurance in a way? Like saying "no-one is going to hurt you, because I'm the one that will"? I don't know...that's just my opinion.

why would saying 'oh, no one's going to hurt you, but really, i am going to, so you'll get hurt anyway', be reassuring? am i not understanding what you are saying correctly?

oh...my bad....I meant to say that Glory was trying to be reassuring by saying that no-one else was going to hurt her.

In that way that it would sort of let Dawn know what to expect so she would maybe freak out less. Or at least know what the process was expected to be.
