What's wrong with my Reps?

I admit, it's driving me insane as well. I have this little OCD issue where I have to get rid of it from my main page and go see it but it won't show up and I want to know what it says and urgh, I'm glad I'm not the only one.

Sorry for bursting in like that, but, um, would anyone explain to me what Darla meant? Will the reps be back soon or not?
 
To be honest, I haven't seen that many negative rep comments. And I have never given anybody one.
I hope it'll be back soon. I'm always really happy when I see that people like my posts 🙂

I've received one and given out a few - I don't think they should be taken personally though.
Part of the perceived problem is that you can't just leave neg rep, you have to leave a comment, which I guess could look like people being bitchy to each other.

Yeah it sounds like people are leaving nasty comments along with negative reps. Those people need to chill out!
 
I have left a few negative reps before, but not anything recent I don't think. 😵



So if we agree with someone, we now have to quote their post and say "I agree with this"? 😛
 
I've never left a negative rep, even when I disagree, I hit the agree button and in the body of my comment I express that I disagree, and here's why etc.

Perhaps there should be only an agree button, and instead of a 'disagree' button an option to give a comment.
 
It's not the agree/disagree buttons that's the problem it's the negativity some people dish out in the comment box afterwards. It's supposed to be used as a tool to add to a thread/post and it's not being used that way in some instances.
 
I don't think there is anything wrong with neg rep. If you disagree, you disagree, and you shouldn't have to feel bad for doing so as long as you are nice about it.

Why would you give someone positive karma if you disagree with them? Makes no sense. If they get their feelings hurt over a little red square, then there is a problem.

Wouldn't it be a more efficient solution to send those, who misuse the rep comments, a warning and if they repeat their misbehavior ban them for a week or so?
Just came into my mind. Would this be possible?

I've never seen a negative rep. I've only recently become a member and all I've seen were good reps. I've never even received nor given a bad one.

If someone does not agree with someone, it's fine with me. Those reps aren't usually bad - just people stating their opinions.

I agree that those who abuse it should be warned and/or banned for a week or so. If they keep abusing recs, maybe they could be banned from using them again.

I hope they will be back soon, they were great.

I'm not totally sure what you mean by this but......I think it's definately part of the problem. I know some people get their feelings hurt easily (like me😛) but I think everyone should make an effort not to hurt other's feelings. In general, if someone has a problem with not caring if a person's feelings get hurt, then maybe an online forum isn't the place for them. But hey, that's just my opinion, right? 🙂

Personally, I've seen a few times where I felt leaving the karma comment was unnecessary. (I hope I'm not guilty of this) Why can't people just let an argument go? Being argumentative for arguments sake is not a productive discussion. I understand that you can disagree with someone but I'm sort of on the 'lets get rid of the disagree button train.' Seeing points taken away from you isn't very positive and I thought that was what BB was all about. 🙁
 
I dont think people have fully read the explanation and the explanation Enemies has reiterated.

The issue is not with people USING the disagree option, it's whats being written in the comments.

I think the fact that people have missed stuff should show why people use the karma to say hurtful things, they think they can get away with it, cuz it's not as noticed as a post.

People still leave nasty comments with the positive karma, so I don't see the point in taken one away.

The issue is the nasty comments, not the karma. But I think it should be dealt with individually, not as a whole group. Because, there are some people that have not left nasty comments.

I don't care if people disagree with my posts...but I don't like doing it. I don't take it personally when it's done to me haha I mean who cares? I've done it once...to you I think 😉 but that was only because we couldn't post anymore and I really did not agree. I don't mind if they take away the neg reps because I'm paranoid about doing it to someone else accidentally (I'm nuts). But mostly, it's kind of like a game, no big deal (as long as people are respectful and explain why they gave the neg karma, and I have never seen just a blank "disagree"). I also haven't seen many with rude comments. I saw one, recently. So maybe that's what this is about.

I mean, if it was just this one person (or a few people), why wouldn't they be addressed privately? Well, maybe they were, but taking away karma completely seems a bit excessive. Now we can't just quickly say "thanks" on a post. Reps are really useful, they keep threads neat and tidy 🙂.
