Why do you suppose they never had a branch in Sunnydale? It was THE Hellmouth afterall. Why didnt they even try to contact Faith or Evil Willow or The Trio or the Master...? It seems to me that they would want all the influence they could get. None of their psychics or seers knew the Slayer was going to raise an army of slayers? Why didnt they try to get Angel when he was Angelus in order to tip the shanshu in their favor? Or Spike?

I think that it was Angel and not Angelus that they needed
I always wondered that. Maybe they were monitoring it from afar- Sunnydale seemed to have a lot of evil there anyway without them having to actively do anything.

Sunnydale's not a big enough city, and W&H seem to only set up firms in major world cities.

And, if anything big enough to get their attention did happen in Sunnydale--something they didn't like--- it could've been dealt with. I mean W&H did provide the locket that defeated the First Evil.

I don't recall Lindsey saying he was the owner of the amulet. He admits he's the one who dug it up and sent it to Angel but did he ever specifically say he had it initially and gave it to Lilah to give to Angel?

Also WR&H aren't all knowing. They mess up a lot.

There is no mention of W&H in the season 8 comics- how did they fare in the Angel comics (ATF or otherwise)?

Riley avatar, woah!
Or maybe those were things they didn't want to deal with, weren't in their interest. This evil firm deals with specific stuff, as I see it. Maybe they didn't wanna bother themselves with things, maybe didn't wanna get into the Slayer field for some reason. I don't know, I'm not sure of what I'm saying...

I think the explanation is simple but boring from a fan' point of view. W&H were not in Sunnydale because the writers had not came up with them on BtVS. When they created them to be Angel 'villains', they didn't want to suddenly bring them up on Buffy!

Tome is right, of course. But I prefer to believe that Mayor Wilkins had a contract with Wolfram & Hart keeping the firm out of Sunnydale.

He had certainly been around a long time, and I can see him not wanting to cede his territory to anyone.

I could see that.

Sunnydale is a small town. Can't have a branch everywhere. Los Angeles seemd to have more action despite the lack of Hellmouth. As for the Hellmouth I'd say they had a branch in Cleveland instead. 😉 That's all I got. Sorry. I'll go back to the truth. There's way too many things not making sense in Buffyverse, not including the supernatural.

Yeah....I think the simple answer is that Whedon didn't want too much crossover between the two shows at that point. But, if you fanwank hard enuf, i guess you could attribute it to the fact that the mayor didn't want to give up his territory to WR&H. Or you could just say that they thought that Sunnydale didn't need any watching over cause there was already a balance between the evil and good (in the form of the slayer)

Maybe the hellmouth was far too powerful for W&H to control. Or they just loved the fact that it couldn't be controlled and had no interest in trying. It's a plausable theory but all in all I think W&H liked going for the "bigger fish" in evil and only stuck their nose in from time to time. For instance, giving Angel the amulet to help out Buffy for the battle against The First.

I got the impression that the LA branch covered America, so why bother having another branch in a town that is only a few hours down the road?

We don't absolutely know for sure that W&H wasn't in some way represented in Sunnydale, even it there wasn't a huge office building with hundreds of employees. They could have had a representative there in the form of a one-or two-man office there with a small staff. For that matter, the Senior Partners wouldn't necessarily have to have lawyers as their agents there. It wouldn't take a huge stretch of the imagination to see Mayor Wilkins as being involved with them. They may even have been the ones who made him immortal. The First Evil might have been one of the Senior Partners, or, given its status as THE First Evil, it might have even been the Chairman of the Board.

Totally agree, I personally always figured they had someone keeping tabs on Sunnydale happenings.

Very interesting theory.
