Whedon for X-Men?

Apparently we have to wait until Sunday to hear what Joss has to say on the subject:

'Rafferty Rulz' pointed us to this site where "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "Angel" creator Joss Whedon says he will talk about politics and X-Men 3 this Sunday, October 24th.

The truth about the X-Men is...much less important than this election. Much less important than putting someone in the White House who knows the difference between leading and bullying. I'm here to confirm that I will be doing the phone-party on Saunday and I'm urging any and everyone to attend one or even host one. (Highstakes2004.com.) I plan to be incredibly funny and insightful, or mention some people who have been in the past. We can talk about politics, we can talk about Buffy, we can talk about car maintenence (though I'll mostly just listen at that point) and I will once and for all tell you all what IS going on with the X-Men. And then we can talk about politics some more."

DON'T COUNT OUT JOSS WHEDON?

I just got off the phone with producer Lauren Shuler Donner. You may have seen a couple of her movies, like St. Elmo's Fire, Ladyhawke, or maybe, I don't know, X-Men and X2. While I don't have the full interview transcribed yet (in which she shows an almost frightening and incredibly heartening - to this fan, anyway - knowledge of X-Men comic history), I wanted to get this little bit of info out to you guys right away.

My first question was why Joss Whedon ISN'T going to be taking the reins on X3. "I'm a huge fan of Joss'," Lauren told me. "Nothing is certain yet." Lauren says that she would still love to work with him on the film.

Well, OK, that's not earth-shattering news, but it does leave the door open for future possibilities. Of course, what Joss said in his election-eve phone chat was that he hasn't been asked to write AND direct X3, and we know that there's a writer on the project already, so maybe his hang up is that he wants to do his own take on the film.

Lauren also talked about life beyond X3, the Wolverine movie, and what it's like dealing with the internet fan community. She also talked about the great response her auction for charity, with the proceeds going to Hollygrove, a child-centered organization that serves abused and neglected children. There's a ton of great movie memorabilia - actual props from some of your favorite films - available in this auction. Plus you get to help out kids.
