Whedon On Romney

Oh my god, that was one of the biggest laughs I've had in a while. Thank you for posting it, I really needed that. 🙂
 
That was funny (had to say it), but at the same time I want to point out that I don't like videos like that, just in principle, even when I find them accurate or comical.

This isn't a left or right thing (let's be honest here, we're picking from a truly horrible mess this November. One's beyond useless and seems keen on driving America off a financial cliff while the other will lie and say absolutely anything to get himself elected). I find that all things like that do is alienate people. Matt Damon did a Sarah Palin video last election season that I found hilarious, but when I thought about it more it just felt...I don't know...dirty almost. I get the same thing here.

I don't like Obama and I can't stand Romney, but I find I'm usually a very centered person. Socially I don't think I could be more left wing, but economically and militarily I find I lean pretty right. So with videos like that, left or right, I find I'm always taking heat for the way I think. But, at the same time, that's what politics have become today in North America; slinging slop back and forth at one another. This, funny as it is, is nothing more than that.

Regardless of how you think or feel politically, I don't care, you know what distinguishes you in my eyes? Class, dignity and honor. I'm not an Obama guy by any means, but Morgan Freeman just narrated a campaign ad for Obama that talked about the great things that have been done in the last four years. It was respectful and classy. I know that Joss can say whatever he likes, which is a great thing, but that doesn't make what he said honorable or tasteful.

Again, maybe I'm just different, but I feel like we deserve better when it comes to politics, on both sides of the spectrum. Celebrities, while people with voices, are by nature far more public than ordinary citizens. Videos like this, even when they're funny, don't help.

I agree with everything you said about videos like these not being classy, but, I don't mind these videos (Just when they express opinions I don't like, but since I laugh at videos like these, I can't complain). But for the people in America that fears ending up on the street, are struggling with the decision of abortion or in similar situations, this video might give them a much needed laugh.

Sometimes mocking humour isn't the classiest way to express a opinion, but sometimes people just need a laugh. Dignity be damned.

Though I found on YouTube a lot of critics about Obama and all he's done and how he shouldn't be elected... See, if you don't want him for president anymore, feel free to send him to Canada. We'd gladly replace Harper 😉

I was just thinking a couple of days ago about a scene from a "Buffy" episode that sums up this whole mess this year. In the Wishverse, when Giles is about to smash Anya's amulet. Like Giles, we can't be sure that things will get better, but, considering what we've had for the last 4 years...

But Joss is wrong about the zombies. They're easy to handle. A bullet to the brain, and they're out for the long count. Even if the government succeeds in confiscating all of our guns, a plain ol' baseball bat or garden store machete will get the job done.

The real Big Bads in this country are the professional politicians.

(Incidentally, the Center For Disease Control does have a procedure to follow in case of zombie attack: http://emergency.cdc.gov/socialmedia/zombies.asp just in case anyone thinks that a zombie apocalypse can't happen)

If after the election and assuming Obama wins, someone says "I made a misstake and wished Obama was re-elected, but in my Romney world things were much better! I need to undo it, Buffy, sorry, Romney wasn't so bad after all." then I will consider Romney a good option for you Americans. But since no one can, we'll just have to look at the facts. And one on hand, you have "the devil you know" and on the other hand you have a questionmark who keeps changing his opinions.

But I could be wrong. I'm mainly judging on values they have, and that Obama doesn't seem to be as bad as Bush.

No, unfortunately, just like 4 years ago, our task is to choose which is the LEAST bad of two poor choices. I firmly believe that Obama was a mistake then, and he would be an even worse mistake now. That doesn't make Romney a whole lot better, just not quite as bad.

I don't completely disagree, but I think Obama is the least evil alternative.
I absolutely love this. I like humor in regards to this, because that's what I use as my coping mechanism.
 
I was under the impression most people have been avoiding politics in these boards. In which I like very much. I love a good debate, but I really dislike arguing. I was kind of nervous going into the video. I really like Joss and I was scared that maybe the real him may say something that I completely disagree with and I would be let down. However I was wrong. He made it in a comical way while he poked fun at Romney. Afterwards I would find out he is a huge Obama supporter. This too made me happy.

With something like Joss being an open about supporting Obama.. I wonder where the other stand on the election. I know a lot of Hollywood seems to be left, or liberal, or at least Democratic. Yet I know/heard Sarah Michelle Gellar is Republican.

From there I wonder where the fans of Buffy typically stand. I know there are fans all over the world and not just in the States. I would make a guess and assume the majority of Buffy fans support gay-rights.

I've heard they have a lot of demographic charts on a lot of major shows now. Are there any studies from the Buffy era?
 
It was funny, and I really liked he went with the zombie theme, but I have to agree with Always Bangel. As much as these kind of clips are funny, it's at the same time sad you have to do these kind of jokes to put down your opponent. I don't believe politics will ever be our salvation just as little as religion will be, but I still don't like the dirty fighting that's going on. I find Real Time with Bill Maher hilarious, but it bothers me so much that he is so extremely partial, so in the end I just swap the channel and watch something else.
