Joseph Loeb says rumour is true

Also, it is now official according to the Hollywood reporter. Jane Expenson is moving over from Gilmore Girls on the WB to Fox and Tru Calling among others.

Writer-producer Jane Espenson has inked a two-year overall deal with 20th Century Fox Television. As part of the pact, "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" veteran Espenson will join "Tru Calling," 20th TV's sophomore drama for Fox, as a co-executive producer while also developing other projects for the studio. Espenson, who started in comedy before moving on to one-hour shows, was recommended to 20th TV brass by "Buffy" creator Joss Whedon.

Yeah, that kind of thing is going to happen Ana (although, check, I think you're post links to a different article, and is mentioned in another post on this thread above).

This thread is meant to be more a complete compilation of rumours, and fact, than a scoop thread. It is meant as a reference thread, and hopefully will separate rumour from fact.

I'll try to keep these news briefs "brief", knowing that others will probably be posting the complete article.

I'm thinking of staking this thread. Whataya think?
 
I think it's a great idea🙂 That way our Whedonverse fix will be easy to locate for everyone and always here🙂

According to this blog site, David Bianculli, TV critic for the New York Daily News conducted a phone interview with Joss Whedon where among other things Joss is purported to have said the following

(2) "Dark Shadows" was indeed being deliberately pitted against "Angel" by the WB as it was an in-house production that would cost them less. By the time the pilot for DS was greenlit, "Angel"'s cancellation had been decided. Bianculli has not seen the pilot but confirmed it was apparently awful, and plans to get a hold of it and write a review of it when he does, just to make a point of it.

(4) Joss apparently also mentioned in the conference call that we "haven't seen the last of Puppet Angel." (yay!)

BBC has an interview up with Joseph Loeb (they're calling him Jeph Loeb).

Loeb was the coordinator of the original Buffy Animated and is also the Supervising Producer of Smallville.

According to Loeb the new Buffy Animated will look as follows.

* They will be working in the primary stages from the original Buffy Animated scripts. Loeb does not rule out the possibility of other Whedon writers coming in to help.

* Fox will still be involved. No word yet though, on whether this means it will still be a Fox Saturday morning cartoon.

* The original Buffy Animated crew will be working on it.

* Loeb sounds certain Joss will be involved, although nobody seems to know exactly how much.

* Alyson, Tony, and Nick have signed on. Loeb also promises surprises.

Herc has a new rumour concerning the Animated Buffy story.

According to Herc it's going to be kind of a short, demo, piloty, presentation thing. The actual series, if it is ever made, will take place in the alternate reality world created by the monks when they created Dawn (again, according to Herc).

Also according to Herc, Fox's participation isn't necessarily as a presenter of the potential series, but more in the executive capacity they have always had with Buffy. As I understand it Fox either owns, or manages the intellectual property rights to Buffy.

Well that one is true, Joss said that it would involve us seeing how it changed the Buffyverse when the monks put Dawn into it.

Here's one I'm puzzled about. I'm not sure it even rates rumour status, or what exactly it means even if it's true. Nevertheless Whedonesque.com thought it was important enough to post, so I'm going to relay it.

Despite any rumors we have heard, as of recent, concerning ANGEL's future - in the latest issue of ANGEL magazine (Issue 4) - it has been confirmed that James Marsters, Amy Acker and Tom Lenk have signed on to do whatever lies ahead for ANGEL, wether it be TV movies, a sixth season, or a possible big screen movie - we will definetly be seeing Spike, Illyria and Andrew in the mix. Although James and Amy are going to be involved in their own projects for the next few months, they have cofirmed that they will be part of ANGEL's future, whatever that may be.

Unfortunately,that's not correct🙁.

I am a contributing writer for the magazine and there isn't anything in the fourth issue of The Official Angel Magazine that confirms any of what is on that bulletin board. The only truth is that James, Amy and Tom all say in their interviews that they would all be interested in continuing their characters, but that is all. That makes a lot more sense to me than the original post.

If the story was true you'd see it everywhere. Did you notice Buffy.nu seemed to be sniffing around the MediaSharx message board, checking to see if there was a story worth stealing.

Yeah, I see. Slayerverse.de had to do some fast talking to cover the fact they'd posted rumour as news. The original story came from the mediasharx message board.

I'm keeping score, and that's 2 pieces of Bull***t coming out of Mediasharx. They also allowed themselves to be used by the WB to spread the WB Angel mini-series rumour.

I don't mind what Whedonesque.com does. Members post links to possible stories for other members consideration. The members there seem pretty in tune with what's going on in the verse, and if there's BS in the story, they'll usually find it.

(BTW Magui, I made an oops, and I almost posted over your previous post. That's why it says edited by me. I think I got it back to it's original though. Sorry about that)
 
Remember the rumour that went, James Marsters is in secret talks to do a Spike spinoff of some sort. Well based on what JM is saying here Marsters on Future Projects, there doesn't appear to be any truth in it.

James claims he is looking forward to taking on non-Buffy projects. Here's a snip from the article.

"If a project was offered to me that was cool and had Spike in it, I would love to do it," he says. "It's a fabulous character, but at the same time, it seems to be over so it's a good time to move on."

James and Joss and Macbeth rumour

There's an interesting rumour here James To Do Macbeth

The rumour goes James has access to 50 million dollars to produce and star in a feature film version of Macbeth.

The rumour began from statements allegedly made by James at the convention Moonlight Rising. One has to remember the "James in secret talks to do Spike spin-off" rumour also began at a convention.

James has done the Macbeth part before in a Seattle stage production. He got rave reviews.

This rumour has a Whedon twist. Apparently at a previous convention James said he wanted to do a Macbeth film, and he wanted Joss to direct it.

That'd be awesome. Macbeth is my fav play and I think James would play the part really well. If there's no spin-off I'll hope for this.
 
Giselle Loren on Buffy Animated

There's a new interview with Giselle Loren. She did the voice for the Buffy game, and it was was suggested she would be filling in for SMG to do the voice of Buffy for the proposed Animated series.

It sheds a lot of light on what exact form the proposed toon is in as we speak. Here's some hi-lights.

It is a pilot. It has yet to be sold as a series.

"The series, however, has not been bought," she says. "The animation needs to be completed; the producers have to pitch the pilot; and someone has to buy it."

We know the pilot at least is for real, because Joss is involved.

The difference between playing Buffy in the videogames and voicing the character in the pilot, Loren explains, was taking direction from Whedon.

We only know for sure about 3 members of the original Buffy cast signing on; Alyson Hannigan (Willow), Anthony Stewart Head (Giles), and Nicholas Brendon (Xander). The Snyder rumour is just that.

All parts are still up for review.

Even her own continued involvement in the show, should it move forward, is unclear.

"Whether or not I'll be Buffy in the series is up to Joss and his crew," Loren says. "Of course, I'd love to have the role as I absolutely love the character."

Loren says she can't provide any answers to the burning casting questions that recent reports on BUFFY THE ANIMATED SERIES have left open, such as who will be portraying Buffy's beau-with-a-bicentennial, Angel, or her kid sister, Dawn. Asked about gaps in the cast, Loren demurs, "As for other cast news, I have no idea."

TV Guide Promises Buffy Scoop

Here's one that might turn out to be interesting - or possibly a big anti-climax.

TV Guide is promising a major scoop on Thursday.

LISTEN UP, BUFFY FANS: The new issue of TV Guide magazine "” on sale Thursday "” features some major Buffy the Vampire Slayer scoopage. Here's a hint: The item appears on page 14 directly under the photo of a certain dark-haired hottie.

Edit: The spoilers are in and apparently this scoop is nothing more than "(Update) It's about the animated series. Potential distributors will get a look at the pilot next month". Whedonesque.com.
