Damn thats some good info on the possibility of the cartoon. I hope i works out for a series. I think if Joss is involved i think i won't be too kiddy, like the Sabrina cartoon, more adult themes like Roughnecks
 
Jeph Loeb has confirmed the new, Buffy, animated, demo, pilot will take place about mid-season 1. Buffy has met Angel, but is still unaware of Angelus.

No word yet on who, if anyone will do the voice of Angel

So, for us Spike lovers, it is good news and bad news. No Spike in season 1. And I really hope they don't make it like Sabrina - it needs to be dark and adult and not many networks have discovered that you can make animated series for adults. Not porn, just not aimed at 8 - 13 year olds either.
 
Just read it. Interesting.

Ash's words about Ripper were particularly encouraging.

It's great how that story fades away from time to time, but it never goes away. Some new piece of information just keeps on turning up.

I'm with you Mr. P. I think Ripper is the most likely of the spin-off's.
 
RECAP: Truth, Rumour, or Hoax.

I guess it's time for a recap. Purely my interpretation. Feel free to disagree if you'd like.

True

~ Joss Whedon is writing the Astonishing X Men for Marvel comics.

~ The Firefly movie - Serenity, is in production.

~ Joss Whedon confirmed the rumour Dark Shadows was being pitted against Angel. Darks Shadows has since been killed as a WB project. A pilot was produced. It was rumoured to be horrible.


Unverified

~ James Marsters claims of secret talks on a Spike Series, and a 50 million dollar Macbeth epic have yet to be verified from any other credible source.

There is a rumour connected to this unverified story of Marsters saying Joss would write it. Marsters did say some time ago, that if he ever did have a chance to do Macbeth, he'd like Joss to write it. That's where the rumour of Joss's involvement comes from

Hoax

~ The quote unquote "credible source" claim from the WB message boards of an Angel 6 part mini-series in the fall was false.

~ The WB mini-series hoax was further perpetuated at Media Sharx. Again the source originated from the WB rumour machine. It included a story of a Faith spin-off. It will not happen. Tru Calling has been picked up.

~ There will not be a British Buffy, featuring boyband singer Simon Webe of Blue. This only existed in a hyped and misinterpreted interview based on Webe's hopes and imagination.

~ At this point the rumour of David Boreanaz appearing in Serenity appears to have been a hoax.

~ Buffy.nu's claims of an NBC Angel pickup were false.

Misinterpretation of Facts

Buffy Animated has not been picked up as a series at this time. In it's present format it is a Demo Pilot.

The Spike-Illyria-Andrew spin-off story is a distortion of remarks made by the actors saying they would be interested in "continuing their characters". The hoax part of this story originated at the MediaSharx message boards.

Yet To Here From

Ripper: There are still rumblings of a possible TV movie from BBC, but no concrete word. Apparently Joss was bouncing ideas off ASH when he visited him in England on a "What do you think of this" kind of basis.

Fray: Nothing to report really, but in an unpublished interview with Jerome Maida that can be seen here https://www.buffy-boards.com/showthread.php?t=13196 Joss says the following:

WHEDON: Actually, I was approached about doing it as a video game, which I thought was sort of interesting. But yeah, I would love to bring back Fray in comics.
I don't see doing it live-action, because - uh - it's too expensive. I mean, I did it so far in the future so I wouldn't mess with the Buffy canon because "Buffy" was still on the air. But the fact of the matter is, that put it far enough in the future that it would be prohibitively expensive. 'Cause you wouldn't want it to look cheesy.
Whereas in a comic, we can do any damn thing we want - which is part of the appeal of them. So, I would love to bring Fray back into comics soon. Again, it's just a question of marshalling my time.

Speaking of James Marsters and the Macbeth rumour. Someone on a messageboard was giving a recap of JM's appearance at an Australian convention:

He said the the backing of his movie was from a man he met who invented the MP3 and that the project is on the backburner currently while he gets his structure in place. He also mentioned a series that David Greenwalt has created for him that has been turned down by one network, but was currently being pitched to CBS and that he was due to hear yesterday how that went. He said since he hadn't heard from David, that CBS probably turned it down too.

The guy who invented the MP3... I know I've heard who that is, but it won't come to me. Seems to me it was some German guy, or group, or something. I'll have to look that up.

Sounds pretty speculative to me. I'll believe the Marsters/Macbeth story when I see a production date announced in the trades, and not before.

This just in. A new rumour from the guy who was offered 50 million dollars on a plane.

James Marsters is now claiming something about a 4 part series of mini-movies Joss has planned.

James: Yeah, I hope so. Joss. It's was interesting. Joss came to me at the end of Angel.

Rove: The creator of Buffy.

James: Yes, Joss Whedon, who wrote and uh, along with David Greenwalt, developed both of Buffy and Angel, together. Umm, and it was weird because I was doing some, just basic work for the show, voice over stuff and filling in bits, and he came up to me and he's like "Man, I really like your work and I'm hoping you're still interested-"And he's kissing my butt! And I'm like, "What are you doing Joss?" And I told him, I said, "Joss, stop it. 3 lines, 50 lines, lead role, whatever you want man, call me. I'm there for you, cuz frankly, you're one of the best writers I've ever worked with". And uh, he said that he wanted to do a Spike move "“ TV movie. But it's also contingent upon other characters. He wants to do four TV movies, one of them is Spike. So, uh, I said "˜yes' immediately, "I'm your *****" (complete with hands surrendered "Dead Things"-style above head, may I add). Right, but I don't know if the others signed off on it. So it may or may not happen, not because I didn't sign off on it, but it may not really sell as a single project.

I guess I should mention the "WB head Garth Ancier saying the WB is interested in doing Angel movie miniseries" thing, but how many times have we heard this? It doesn't even rate a link.

What's more interesting about this story though, is Ancier seems to be saying now that cancelling Angel was a mistake. He's blaming Fox for it, but when you cut through the bull manure, he's saying, it shouldn't have happened.

It's not a claim, 100% real. I saw the interview myself and heard it from James' lips myself. The interview is 100% real. : rotate : My sister even taped the interview on VHS.
 
Here's one that doesn't quite reach rumour status yet - more like a rumour you wanna hear.

What's happened is Bryan Singer director of the 2 previous X Men moves seems to have moved over to Warner Bros with the Superman movie and a Logan's Run project. This appears to put Fox in a spot where they're looking for a new director for X Men 3.

Joss Whedon's name keeps coming up (usually from fans).

For what it's worth, a recent fan poll at Cinescape Online named Joss Whedon the favorite to replace Singer as director of the next Marvel mutant movie. X-Men 3 was slated for a May 3, 2006 release

Whedon himself sounds like he would be interested in such a project if it were offered to him:

WHEDON: Uh, I'm not gonna write anything that I don't direct ever again. Unless it's for a particular friend. Um, I had several times as a writer in Hollywood. Um, up to and including the rewrite I did on the movie of the X-Men. So, there are definitely characters I would love to make a movie about...but, I'm in the middle of making a movie and writing the X-Men. So I'm not thinking that far ahead. But yeah, it could totally happen. It would be great fun.

Add to this the contract Joss has with Fox to develop projects for them (is it just TV? I don't know), and it gets interesting.
 
So I don't know why people aren't making a bigger deal of this, but Joss Whedon finally appeared for what I believe is his first question and answer session since Warner Brothers made the claim they put a proposition on the table for a series of Angel movies.

This is the way City of Angels describes what Joss had to say on the subject:

Questions regarding "Angel" were brought to the floor and Joss was happy to respond to all of them. Regarding the recent WB comments that they may have jumped the gun in canceling "Angel" several fans condemned the network but Joss reminded them, "First off the WB aired "Buffy" for five years when nobody else would. I'm not thrilled with their recent decisions, but ultimately they were a big help to us and we have talked with them about doing movies based on different characters in the "Buffy" universe. Recently they just changed their administration, I'm not sure what's going on so everything kind of in limbo. I would definitely like to see the Buffy-verse back on its feet in one form or another; I would definitely like to see "Firefly" continuing in every form." Whether Angel's continuing future on possibly another Network was also mentioned fueled by the openness of the finale ending. "I don't consider the finale to be quite as open as some people have said," Joss confessed. "Let's see, Gunn definitely dies, and many things are possible. I don't intend to continue the series, I think that the series is over but like I said we're talking about TV movies, we're talking about different venues. I would like to see what happens to those characters in some format we just haven't had a go on what that happens to be yet. But trying to bring back the series I think that it's sort of beyond that now."

OK now you may think differently, but to me that doesn't sound like there's a clear offer on the table. To me it looks like Warner Brothers offer is much less solid than they would like us to believe. Joss has always said there have been discussions with Warner Bros on Angel movies, just nothing solid. I don't get the impression anything has changed.

There was some hopeful news though. Joss seems to think a Serenity comic book is going to happen:

So the possibility of seeing the Serenity cast of characters in comic form was brought up and Joss eagerly replied, "We have every intention of putting out a comic book of Serenity as well. We're talking to Darkhorse right now of doing Serenity comics, because of Fray and all that we've done with that."

yup sure will and "even if" shouldn't even apply to my statement as I don't have a time machine. Though if I did.... going back to commit violence wouldn't be something I'd be first up for doing unless it's against Hitler.

Also as a moderator I'd think if you have a problem with a post you might wanna think about pm'g ppl just to be nice...ya know real easy to step of ppl's toes. ( just a wee bit of advice from one mod (of another board) to another) 🙂
 
Well Kendra, speaking as Mr. Ps co-mod in this forum, I think I can tell you if he hadn't publicly informed you of the "Don't bash anyone rule" I would have.

Actually the reasoning behind this becomes Whedonverse connected, so I'm going to explain it to you publicly, and still stay borderline on subject.

When the WB stupidly cancelled Angel there was a lot of anger on this board towards the decision. It manifested itself in multiple bashing posts of humourous intent. They were often dealt with in much the manner you suggested (through PMs). Unfortunately people saw those cute little bashing posts unmolested by board administration, and decided bashing was within board policy. More bashing happened, and they weren't always joking. It spread to the point members thought it was OK to bash other members. Finally the policy had to become dealing with such threads publicly in order to let everyone know what the board policy on bashing was.

As far as you being a mod on another forum goes, I think you can appreciate, how each board has it's own distinctive problems and ways of dealing with them. Thanks for your concern though.

Can we discuss Joss Whedon's future projects now please? 🙂

ComingSoon.net got a chance to talk to Joss Whedon about the rumors that he may be interested in taking on X-Men 3, now that Bryan Singer is out of the picture. Whedon says that nothing has been offered to him for "X3," but if offered, he would LOVE to do the third film (hint, hint Fox!). On the comics side, Whedon is writing "Astonishing X-Men" right now for Marvel.

Whedon has been an online fan favorite to replace Singer in the director's chair. Singer is directing Warner Bros.' new Superman adaptation instead. 20th Century Fox and Marvel Studios still have X-Men 3 scheduled for a May 3, 2006 release date.

Also, Whedon tells us that he is interested in doing a "Buffy/Angel" film as well, but he knows that Sarah Michelle Gellar and David Boreanaz wouldn't want to participate in the feature. He adds that the "Buffy" animated series is still in the planning stages.
