Also, Whedon tells us that he is interested in doing a "Buffy/Angel" film as well, but he knows that Sarah Michelle Gellar and David Boreanaz wouldn't want to participate in the feature. He adds that the "Buffy" animated series is still in the planning stages.

Im sure he can win them around, or at least not include them and have a funny advertising campaign. "Buffy and Angel the movie. Does not include Buffy or Angel"
 
I was reading the comments to this article at Whedonesque.com. I got the feeling there was suspicion of it, because David Boreanaz has said he would be interested in a feature film, and according to one of the members, SMG made a comment at a recent Convention saying she would be interested in a feature film if the script was excellent. The feeling was Joss would have known this, so either Joss is double-talking, or the interviewer is in some way misinterpreting.

I'm thinking maybe Joss wasn't talking about a feature film, but the TV mini-movies idea, that keeps popping up.
 
Isn't it interesting how nothing much happens in the Whedonverse for months, then all of a sudden there's news everywhere. Here's some stuff.

Possible TV movies for Buffy and Angel
As the fall TV season gears up, Buffy and Angel fans await news of TV movies based on their beloved series. Even Joss Whedon hasn't heard anything official, but rest assured he would be able to produce movies in the "Buffyverse" even if Sarah Michelle Gellar and David Boreanaz would not return.

"I haven't really heard anything," Whedon said. "Obviously, there's been a regime change at WB. The fans are interested, I'm interested. I don't think either Sarah or David would want to do it but there's about 10 other character I can name who would be totally worthy of movies. I'm just waiting for somebody to say yay or nay."

Whedon could not commit to writing or directing such a project, but said, "I would certainly be involved. I would never let one of those stories be told without overseeing it."

The long-rumored Buffy animated series may still have life too. "A presentation is being made. It hasn't been bought anywhere, but it's still in the creating stages so it's still a possibility."

Some of these appear elsewhere on Buffy-boards, but they're really necessary here, because they support stuff mentioned earlier on this thread like how Garth Ancier was just blowing noise out his air-hole when he said the WB put a firm offer on the table for Whedon TV movies.

Buffy Movies Still Possible

Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel creator Joss Whedon told SCI FI Wire that he's ready to return to the Buffyverse with television films once he receives a green light from The WB, home of Angel, or another network. "We haven't really heard anything," Whedon said in an interview. "Obviously, there's been a regime change at The WB. The fans are interested. I'm interested. I don't think either [Buffy star] Sarah [Michelle Gellar] or [Angel star] David [Boreanaz] would want to do it. Beyond Buffy, Whedon said he'd readily return to series television. "I had some ideas," he said. "I'm sort of trying to look at the marketplace and say, 'What kind of idea will actually go?' Because I'm not really interested in making things that don't. "¦ So I'm not sure if what I have is what the world wants right now."

But, Whedon added, "I am totally prepared to go back to TV. Not 24-seven, as I did with the first years of Buffy. But now I've learned about surrounding yourself with the right people and delegating so that I can actually run a show without ruining my life. And TV is, you know, "¦ a medium that I love in a very different way than I love movies. The things that I can't do in [a] movie are things that I mourn: the smaller moments. The "¦ protracted interactions. The things that make TV really fascinating. Watching characters change over the years. You know, I've waited my whole life to make movies, but movies don't do that. "¦ You either write novels that are way too long, or you make TV if you want to do that. And "¦ I can't write novels that are long."

Apparently Joss actually wants to do an X-men movie, and Marvel appears to want him to do it.

I actually really like those actors and I really like those characters and there's a lot that could be done with it and it'd be a romp. But I'm not setting my sights on that, I'm setting my sights on exactly one thing, which is [Whedon's feature directorial debut, "Serenity."]
"Serenity" wraps principal photography in about 10 days.
Would the folks at Marvel like to hire Whedon? "Major Tom" sent in this snippet of an IGN Filmforce interview with Marvel Enterprises head Avi Arad from February:

IGNFF: At one point, wasn't Joss Whedon up for (Iron Man)?

ARAD: Joss Whedon never wrote a draft of it. We wished! Believe me, we tried very hard, but he got busy with Firefly.

IGNFF: Are there any hopes to tap him again at some point for another project?

Joss answered questions again at the Chicago convention:

From there, the subject of "Angel" TV movies was addressed. "There has just been a regime change at the WB," noted Whedon. He explained that when that happens, it is not uncommon for the new to do away with anything associated with the old (i.e. Joss Whedon properties).

Whedon also said that the WB isn't the only place where an "Angel" TV film could be done. "No one has really given me a firm answer. There is interest at Fox Production. Because I'm in the middle of filming, I haven't been able to pursue it as much as I could."

One fan asked why the Angel series was ended on a cliffhanger when the series had been cancelled and there is no promise of telefilms. In response, Whedon comically bellowed "Don't call it a cliffhanger!" He said that the ending meant that "you never have to stop fighting. You never get to stop fighting if you want to be a decent human being."

Asked about the revival of the animated "Buffy" project that had once been set for Kids WB, Whedon updated the crowd. "A rough cut of a three-minute presentation is being put together. It doesn't have a home right now." Whedon added that Fox Productions is interested in this property also...

On the possibility of Whedon directing the third X-Men film. "I guess Bryan left the house," he said, referring to former X-Director Bryan Singer's departure from Fox Studios to Warner Brothers and the Superman film. "It sounds like a me-treat, but right now I have other X-Men to deal with...the astonishing ones. [Artist] John Cassaday may be a god, but I still have to write it well. That's where my mind's at right now."

The possibility of directing from another writer's script was raised. "I don't see that happening," he replied. "I can see collaborating with any number of the talented people I know," he said naming off the various former staff members of his television series. "To take something that is completely somebody else's would be an interesting challenge, and therefore, I wouldn't do it."

Also on the topic of motion pictures, Whedon mentioned "I have, my entire life, wanted to do a stage musical. Even more than that i want to make an original film musical."

Joss has a bright future (like his present) I just think that he is going to be remember along the lines of Spelling. I just get that feeling with JOss that his next project is going to be amazing

About a month ago, Buffy the Vampire Slayer mastermind Joss Whedon publicly declared an interest in taking on the next X-Men movie now that Bryan Singer has traded mutants for a cape and a big "S". Was someone at Fox listening?

If the industry newscatcher Production Weekly is to be believed (and I'm told they're rarely wrong, if ever), ears were indeed open, and wise decisions were made. According to them, Whedon is onboard to direct X3, with the production gearing up in Vancouver next June.

Of course, there's currently no script, and to the best of my knowledge no major talent has actually signed for the movie (and we know Halle Berry has little interest in returning unless she's in the spotlight). But Whedon certainly has a handle on the characters judging by his excellent run on Marvel's Astonishing X-Men series, and we know from his remarkable television work that he can juggle multiple characters, so it probably wouldn't be too difficult for him to whip up a fine screenplay (especially considering he worked on the first film's script).

I think the DVD sales of Buffy and Angel might hint to some studio executives that a movie would be very successful. I mean I would expect each hardcore Buffy fan to see the movie around 4 times, if not more!

Although if there was only one movie out of the two shows, I think Buffy would be the one to make. Chosen just leaves so many possibilities open and theres so much story to explore. Especially if they wanted to make a movie about the events leading up to Fray.

I think Sarah would sign if the script was amazing and the pay as well. A Buffy movie, if done right and by right I mean directed, produced and written by Joss, could be a critical success, drawing in other people, not just fans of Buffy. Plus it would kinda be a reward to Joss, his "shanshu" of finally overcoming the badness of the 1st movie.

A budget of about 125 - 150 million would be appropriate. The majority would be spent on CGI and pay. I could imagine them paying Sarah around 5-10 million, with each of the Scoobs getting around 2 million respectively.

As for location, though it would probably be filmed in Vancouver, I would love to see some locations in various parts of the world.
 
In October 'verse actors are haunting the movies.

Sarting on the 8th with Christian Kane in Taxi, then onto a limited release of Final Cut with Stephanie Romanov on Oct 15, and finishing out the month SMG starring in The Grudge on Oct 22.

Actually, I heard that Halle Berry isn't interested in "X-Men 3" at the moment, due to the fact that Bryan Singer won't be directing. I also heard that Famke Janssen is considering on not reprising her role as Jean Grey for the same reason. I guess the two ladies prefer Singer over Whedon.
 
What I've heard of Halle Berry turning down the role of storm had more to do with the fact that she wanted to make her character the main plot line and get more money...that's the first I heard about Famke though.
 
First of all I can't take credit for that quote of the opinion on why Halle Berry didn't want to come back. It's quoted from Chud.com.

Concerning Famke, that isn't exactly what she said. Here is exactly what she said.

"What do you think of Joss Whedon taking over?

I heard that rumor too. I've heard it on the street. I haven't heard it from close reliable sources yet, but I don't know. I'd really have to look at his take on [it]. It's so hard to imagine at this point anybody other than Bryan doing it because those two movies have such a specific distinctive look.

Isn't it set up for you to come back as Dark Phoenix?

And Bryan really wanted to follow that storyline because it's one of the biggest storylines in the X-Men comic books. So it would have been great for me if that had happened and that scenario. I'm not sure what they're going to do. I know Dark Phoenix is a huge part of the X- Men saga, so I'm assuming they're at least going to want to touch on it, but I don't know and I don't know whether I would want to be involved. That depends on many different things.

OK, we can all relax now. Joss has denied the X-Men 3 rumours.

Yet another anonymous source has turned up with a rumour Angel is making a return to the WB. How many times do the WB think they can do this, and still be taken seriously. Recently they tried the same thing with a Tru Calling to the WB rumour.

I'll post this here for people who want to go through the thread and count the bogus WB rumours. I'm not going to bother posting a link, because really, why bother? Really. It's like knocky knocky 9 doors. After a while you stop going to the door.

I guess the idea is these bogus rumours are supposed to kind of misdirect attention from how dismal their network is doing. Did you see where The Mountain is down 41.6% from where Angel was last year in the same time slot

It concerns 2 new rumours from an un-named source stating Joss is being sought to do a Wonder Woman movie, and Joss is still considering directing X Men 3.

Oh yeah, and there is some harder information on something else. Nathan Fillion says there is a stipulation in the Serenity Actor's contracts to do a Trilogy should Serenity 1 be successful.

The only thing Joss is working on right now is 'Serenity,' it's a movie. Statue is Post-production, that was last updated on Aug. 28.

here is a plot summery if any one wants me to list the cast let me know.

The film centers around Captain Malcolm Reynolds, a hardened veteran (on the losing side) of a galactic civil war, who now ekes out a living pulling off small crimes and transport-for-hire aboard his ship, "Serenity." He leads a small, eclectic crew who are the closest thing he has left to family -- squabbling, insubordinate and undyingly loyal. When Mal takes on two new passengers -- a young doctor and his unstable, telepathic sister -- he gets much more than he bargained for. The pair are fugitives from the coalition dominating the universe, who will stop at nothing to reclaim the girl. The crew that was once used to skimming the outskirts of the galaxy unnoticed find themselves caught between the unstoppable military force of the Universal Alliance and the horrific, cannibalistic fury of the Reavers, savages who roam the very edge of space. Hunted by vastly different enemies, they begin to discover that the greatest danger to them may be on board "Serenity" herself.

It also says he has several comic books series, 2 being spin-offs of the btvs called 'Fray' and 'Tales of the Vampires.' Currently working on writing for 'The Astonishing X-Men.'
