I don't know Xx. Although I basically agree with the issues you raise. I disagree with some of the details.
First of all where did you get that information about why Whedonesque only takes new members sporadically? It wasn't just for a couple of weeks you know? I'm pretty sure it's been at least close to a year, and at one time there was a notice flat out refusing to take on new members.
Secondly; Here's my opinion on why Whedonesque is a better site than Buffy.nu
I definitely I agree they are, but I have a slightly different set of reasons why I think so.
Whedonesque is basically a links posting site. When members find a Jossverse related story they post a link to it. Other members visit the article linked to, and comment on it at Whedonesque. No harm. No foul.
Buffy.Nu is a scavenger site. It visits sites such as Whedonesque, or uses Googles news alert system to find articles then copies and pastes the entire article with a tiny hidden link to the source, giving the impression they (Buffy.nu), are themselves responsible for the scoop.
Another beef I have with Buffy.nu is they don't seem to have any interest in verifying the credibility of a story.
Consider a few of the noteworthy scam articles that have appeared over the years; the bogus alternate Chosen, script, the Spike as male slayer story, or the recent one that Buffy.nu can take full credit for where they said Angel was going to NBC. The only time I've ever seen Buffy.nu offer anything remotely like a disclaimer was with the NBC story, and that was only after every other B/A site on the internet was calling the story bogus.
There are still people around who believe the alternate Chosen script was written by Joss, even after Joss himself disclaimed it. I blame Buffy.nu for that. The last time I Googled it, the one place you could still find that bogus alternate script without a disclaimer was Buffy.nu.
Whedonesque has also linked to the scam stories mentioned above, and others, but the title at Whedonesque often suggests it should be read with caution. The title is often changed as more details come out, and even if the original linker should miss the warning signs of a scam story the Whedonesque users who comment never do. In short Whedonesque is more credible than Buffy.nu.
