Whedon's New Show - Dollhouse

I will probably like it more than Firefly, at least. I mean, take all the greatness of Alias, add in Eliza Dushku, Joss Whedon, and Tim Minear, and you have a freaking masterpiece.
 
Any Idea when exactly this is going to come on? I know with the writer's strike and everything else that's happening etc.,
But when will we be able to see it? Or are we in the dark at the moment?
 
Most likely in the fall if the strike ends soon, or maybe midseason. No one will know until the upfronts. Although there's talk that there won't be any May upfronts this year.
 
I hope the strike ends soon! More episodes of Lost need to be shot... Though I do understand to point and all.

I can't wait to see some frest writing from the J-man, and he knows Eliza so he'd write well for her!
 
I haven't read all this thread, however I'm pleased Eliza's in it, I think she got a really bum deal with Tru calling, I love that show and was really disappointed with its ending, or lack of one
 
I was finding myself thinking of poor Xander the other day after seeing him on some random movie on Sci-Fi.
It would have to be done well (which we know Joss can do) but, I'd really like it if he could find a nice place for little Nicky in the Dollhouse. Maybe not right off, but a way to drag him in. He needs to be back on TV and not just on late nice Sci-Fi Channel and cartoon voices. Besides, he and Eliza have an amusing chemistry.
 
Or James Marsters bad ass and cool in everything he's in. I only say this cause I just saw Torchwood and he was GREAT. I'd love to see 'Xander' on t.v. again. I haven't seen him in anything but Buffy. I've seen every other cast member in atleast one other project , actually quite a few.. alot... not him though.

he was alright in torchwood, but he was basically just playing spike, he was exactly the same, down to his English accent, which is interesting as he's not English, I half expected him to try and bite people and ask where Buffy is.
infact he told torchwood that they need a blonde in their group, I'm sure that was a little nod at Buffy.

it annoys me when people play the same character all the time, like david in Bones, apart from the fact he's not a vamp, he's exactly the same character again

Ahem. Well, that's more indicative of poor acting.
James is a far better actor than Dave, so I'd expect a greater thespic range from the former. *ducks hailstorm of vegetables*

Keep in mind David was a model IIRC before he was hired for Buffy, whereas James was an actor to begin with, right?


As for this show Dollhouse, I'd love to watch it and see where it goes. To be a success, it has to have a strong ENSEMBLE cast with well-delineated characters, and not get into a dangerous loop, like Tru Calling.

I tend to agree about JM being a better actor than DB. I'm not saying DB's a bad actor; I'm just saying that I think part of the reason that JM's character changed so much was because JM had the necessary range as an actor. They threw him a lot of the toughest scenes. I think there's a reason for that. DB had a lot of quality material to work with, too, and the men's scenes together were often truly hilarious. I think they played off of one another beautifully. But JM could deliver the more complex performances. I think JM could have played Angel, but I don't think DB could have played Spike.

As far as Dollhouse goes, I really don't want to see either JM or DB or NB or, really anyone from Buffy. Is that weird? I don't want Dollhouse to be a love letter to Buffy. I want it to be entirely different and exciting, like Firefly was.

But the actors crossed over after it was gone and it worked nicely. I think Joss is quite good at morphing actors into totally different people. Maybe NB could be EVIL!
 
I liked seeing Jonathan M. Woodward in Angel, Buffy, and Firefly. I'd love to see him again. (Knox,Holden,Tracey)

True, but the poor boy never seems to fair very well. I'm not sure Joss actually LIKES him.: erm :

He has to like him to put him in his three coolest shows.. or :lmao: he just puts him in them to kill him off.. hahaha that would be mean.
 
I don't think David Boreanaz plays Booth like Angel. Booth is a pretty light character, he's nothing like dark, brooding Angel. Sorry.

I think James Marsters would be cool to see on Dollhouse. Nicholas Brendan...eh, no, I don't see him being a good fit.
 
I watched a few episodes of Bones 😛 I liked him in it but , no I didn't see him as Angel like. But maybe that's just cause I've only seen a dozen or less eps.
 
It's not so much that he's JUST alike, it's the undertone.
He's a lot "happier" in Bones, but that's more writing. It's how he plays the happy vs. broody. Like he just levels out. When he's happy, it's like seeing Angel happy and when he's broody, it's like seeing Angel broody and when he gets mad, I expect bumpy face. Maybe the character just isn't much different.
I refer Nathan Fillion. Even just between Buffy and Firefly he was almost unrecognizable as the same actor. Which was a happy point for me because Caleb scares the crap out of me. Gina, on the other hand, although her character was WAY different on Firefly and then on Angel, there was the "strong, knowing silence" thing in both of them. And it took me a lot longer to warm up to her on Firefly. I wasn't expecting her face to turn into maggots exactly, but there was still this feeling of "distrust".

I've been watching JM on Without A Trace and forgiving the hair and accent, he is unrecognizable too. I have to tape it and rewind to catch glimpses of Spike.

DB is a good actor. He's quite likable. And perhaps he just picked a role that requires a similar acting style. Because he still has to play kinda goofy, sometimes broody, occasionally attacking the "bad guys" in dark and dingy places while very angry, and deal with unspoken attraction...and he plays those like in Angel. I am happy to see him get to pull out the goofy card more than in Angel.

But now we're WAY off topic....we should probably ease back to the point as to not confused any newbies!
