Whedon's Obessesion with Syphillis?!

I have a theory that Joss Whedon either has syphillis or likes it for some strange twisted reason. It comes up at least three times in Buffy and Angel.

1.Xander get syphillis from the Chumash tribe

2. Spike says "Harmony, I love syphillis more than you"

3. Darla died from syphillis when she was human and when she was returned she was dying from it again

Maybe I'm crazy (ive been told this many times before so if I am.....wouldn't be too shocked) But i really think Joss has a syphillis problem.
 
Interesting Points. I've never really thought of that before. Good catch. I do think it is funny as hell when Xander gets syphillis though. Nicholas Brenden does a great acting job of freaking out when he finds out.
 
Maybe Joss has contracted it himself once, maybe and STD he got when he was younger... just speculating.

Anyone going to a convention with Joss any day soon?
 
haha My friend had that spike quote (which is hilarious and yet somehow sad) up on her site once and I commented on it and she said she's obsessed with studying the history of syphilis... maybe Joss has a similar obsession?
 
Darla getting syphilis is no surprise. There's some controversy about whether it came from Old World explorers and infected the New, or whether Europeans contracted it from Native Americans and brought it back to Europe 500 yrs ago. Plus, it just sounds funny in a Joss one-liner.

Anyways, so many famous historical figures had it, it just figures Joss would bring that one up"”with Buffy's cultural, literary references and all.
