I cannot for the life of me find the thread on this so please merge it if it hasn't been deleted. Or delete this if its deemed a topic not worth discussing.

Did anyone notice the casual slip in of 'Serenity' in E05 True Believer. It was in the first 5mins or so when they are describing (again) the actives state of mind.

The big giveaway that this in fact a connection is that this is the first episode the co-exec producer of firefly Tim Minear wrote, so surely putting that in there was deliberate.

So, thats twice connections have been made referring to the same thing (actives mind). I smiled when I heard it anyway.

I don't know if WhiteHat is joking or not - if he is, well the adage goes 'if you have to explain it, it isn't funny'!
Pah - Serenity is a word that has been around longer than the show.
Its just a coincidence that the writer of Firefly who wrote the episode along with the creator of both shows, had that word in the text.

:lmao:

That might be a stretch.
So by the same logic, if a character says that he's going to buff his automobile, it MUST be a reference to that other show?

Well, it's undestandable since it's gone to the cemetery. Buffy references in Dollhouse If that means this will be closed too remains to be seen.

As for the subject itself it seems like most reference people have found could just as easily be coincidences. But on the other hand like now with Serenity. It might be a coincidence but what is to say that the writers while giving a "choice" to fit something like this in they go for the word that can be seen as a connection instead of using another word just because they know it can be seen as a connection? If people like to grasp every little straw I say let them. I for one thinks it's pretty funny to see what people find even though I'm not looking myself.

*Yawn* - Gosh, I'm tired. I think I need some coffee or something *Yawn*
Mellie's trigger code phrase turning her into a single-minded assassin reminded me of Spike's song code, trigger in Sleeper.

I mean yeah, I know, that's an old story device, even way before Sleeper, but it's interesting Joss keeps going back to it.

I was trying to catch up today, and I got to episode 4 (I know, I know, sacrilege, heathen, chase the infidel with torches and pitchforks). "Blue Skies"? Very "Five by Five". Not a an actual quote reference, but I thought the context and usage of the phrases were similar enough as to be a clear reference. I mean, you cannot have Eliza in leathers and have her say a airforce sounding expression as a catchphrase and not evoke images of Faith.

And, yes, I'm slow and behind and this has probably all been discussed in the discussion thread, but this is a list of references. And let's keep it as such. If this one is pulled off topic it will go the same way as the last one.

Speaking of casting connections. Felicia Day who was Vi in Season 7, and Penny in Doctor Horrible will be making a Dollhouse appearance.
