I detest 99% of fanvideos. Why do so many beautiful scenes have to be obstructed with such horrific music so often? I've searched for certain scenes on Youtube a few times (eg that one minute Bangel scene from 'I will remember You') and can only ever find it with some music blaring over the top and with the audio barely there, or not at all.

Is this down to copyright?

Fox is very harsh about copyright on youtube. Most scenes that are on Youtube would have to be edited in some way(like reversing the video) and/or pitch altered so that they aren't detected. They can and do check for video and audio copyright. Its not going to be easy to find the scenes to most fox owned shows on youtube (or at least the ones they care about keeping off the internet).

I know they have removed Buffy scenes in the past and I don't know that I've seen a Buffy scene that isn't terrible quality ever stay on youtube long if it ever even gets that far. They've even gone after fan videos at times. People who make Glee fan videos often ask that the name of the show not be even mentioned in the comments so that fox doesn't suspend their accounts.

A lot of the scenes that are currently on youtube are taken from the old BuffyBaseTV account which did flip the video and alter the pitch of the show so that they wouldn't get caught ... until someone either found it manually or they got ratted out and taken down. Since it is illegal to upload Buffy scenes on youtube, they can and will take scenes down if they find them.
