Years ago, I used to write for a challenge community on livejournal (open_on_sunday, which held drabble contests with a topic for each drabble written in the Buffy/Angel-verse. It was a lot of fun and sometimes a little harder to write, since you were limited to only 100 words (no more and no less, basically) but it helped to sort of develop my writing skills in some ways. And I thought, I'd share some of my favorite ones with you. 🙂

title: never forgotten
character: cordelia chase
fandom: angel
prompt: [HASHTAG]#010[/HASHTAG]: Years
words: 100

Time changes people over the years and Cordelia is no exception. She still pulls the old ragged tape out of her drawer where she keeps it by the bed sometimes and she watches it on that day every year. She doesn't forget what he did for Angel, more importantly what he gave to her.

How can she forget when she has brain-incinerating mind numbing god be damned visions to remind her all the time. Sometimes she gets mad at him for leaving them -her- the way he did.

Mostly she curses time for never giving them the chance they deserved.

She doesn't love him. He's just a loser boy she dated in high school that broke her heart. If she did it will mean that what she felt was real and not pretend. It ruined her reputation.

She doesn't love him. He's just a loser half-demon who wore hideous polyester bowling shirts and kept secrets from her. If she did then it means she has to accept that he's gone and all she has left is this tape she watches every year.

She doesn't love him. He's only the man she fell in love with. They never got the chance.

title: come together
character: cordelia chase
fandom: angel
challenge: #80 - Weapons

Strong swift, graceful movements the feel of cool metal in her hands, flourish of her feet long legs stretching out in deft kicks. If anyone had told her that her weapon of choice would be a sword she would have told them they were crazy before laughing in their face and mocking him or her for the rest of the day.

But here in Angel's basement sparring with him time was different. She was different. It was important that she be able to protect herself she thought, one less burden that Angel would have to bear. It all came together.

title: one he loved

Sometimes passion can come at a high price. The lesson's well learned, but more than likely ignored in favor of blind eyed beauty.

Thick dark lines, smooth contours, a light flick of the wrist, the portrait had been so easily drawn. Harmonious beauty captured on manila paper.

Rose petals had been strewn across the floor, up the stairs and down the hall towards the bedroom where she lay in waiting. Champaign had been chilled and a perfectly unflawed rose had been laid to rest atop the portrait that awaited him.

He had buried many, but only one that he loved.

Years of being a Watcher honed his skills at learned behavior. It had been easier before her, long before he had ever come to Sunnydale.

He had known different. There were rules, books and no friends. And yet she would have it so much differently. Lessons had been what had defined his life up until this point.

Now it seemed that they were learning the hardest one of all and yet he was revisiting one that had always seemed easier in the past, too easy. He was learning he simply wasn't cut out for this.

Saying goodbye was never easy.

Faith.

Where was it when the stars started began to her, whispering things, sending her visions that her mummy had convinced her were of the devil?

She was alone, scared"”sought solace in a confessional to a priest who turned out to be no Angel. One doesn't know where the blackness began and when the madness started.

Slaughtered her family, watched their blood spill out in dark ever flowing crimson rivulets. Where was her faith then? Where was her God?

Gone.

Mummy and daddy are no more. China broken, innocence no longer maintained. Marred by an Angel with no faith.

Faith.

Swept through the night. Vampires became dust, demons learned to cower to their knees and a man was killed easily with little to no grief.

Five by five.

Death COM one was looking pretty grim. She was itching for a little fight, ready to take a tumble. Moving slowly she approaches a tall lanky one with blond hair. She'd seen him before, knew him well--felt him against her skin.

Spike.

The one granted a reprieve for a chip embedded in his skull by the government. A get out of jail free card.

Buffy wouldn't dare, but she would.

She came in darkness and death followed her, whispering on the wind. A silent symphony played in her head, the tune she hummed belonged to an old child's nursery rhyme.

Long spider like fingers curled upwards, punctured the jugular. Crimson rivulets cascaded downwards spilling onto the white fabric of the violinist's shirt making dark round patterns, soaking into his pale ivory skin.

Flashes of fear shone in his eyes as death curdling screams were met with the silence of demise. Drusilla dropped him where she stood watching as he fell to the pavement.

"˜See Miss Edith, everything is better now.'

Ollehh agrees: These are really good! And it sounds like a load of fun to do!

Aw, thanks so much. It was a lot of fun to do, back in the day when I was actually keeping up with it. It sure tested me sometimes, as well. And you're just about the only one to comment, so yays! I at least got one, hee. Thank you, too. 🙂
