I just got the new Angel and Serenity comics.

Anyone have any opinions on those?

Mine is - like em both, but don't love em. Much better than the Buffy comics, but nowhere close to the depth, readability and multiple readings quality of Fray.

I haven't read Joss's X Men yet, but it's definitely on my things to purchase list. 🙂

Fray was good, but I don't really like that particular take on the Buffyverse.

Haven't read new IDW Angel, haven't read X-men.

Ask about Serenity again in a few weeks when the final part is out.

I voted the regular Buffy comics, even though some were pretty bad, there were a lot of fun ones among it. The Origin mini-series about Buffy's canonical L.A. days, very interesting. The Oz mini-series was really fun too.

I loved Fray. And I want to see all three parts of Serenity--but I can say right now that the dialogue is pure Joss Whedon.

Never read the Buffy comics. Don't know why, just never did.

I don't care about the storyline in the new Angel comics. Dialogue is average comic book dialogue. Maybe it would get better if any other buffyverse characters would show up.

Serenity #2: sold out when I went to grab it at the shop. Must go to the bookstore. Much more whedonesque I think.

Astonishing is easily the best. Fray was well done but didn't have the characters we spent years growing to love and the art was mediocre. The current Angel series is playing on our collective nostalgia a bit too much. The Buffy comics were, for the most, part, crap. I'm not a Serenity/Firefly movie yet, I'm gonna wait for the movie. Spikek was way too expensive for its size so I couldn't justify getting it. But Astonishing, wow, brilliant stuff. Whedon is totally doing his own thing, but at the same time, playing nice with the characters past and with other Marvel creators, like Brian Michael Bendis and Grant Morrison. And the art, god, John Cassaday is amongst the most talented artists in the field. I love his stuff, such a visual treat.

I voted for AXM purely because i'm such a big fan of the X-Men and Joss has done such an excellent job with reinvigorating the characters.

Fray would have been my second choice.

There's a scene early on in Astonishing where Kitty is chewing out Emma Frost about the nasty things she's done"”just brilliant dialogue. Truly as good as anything uttered in the 'verse. The great artwork helps as well...

Joss is so good at making characters their most eloquent when they're pissed off or hurt.

I loved that dialogue! Joss is great!!!!! :)
I think part of the problem with the Buffyverse comics is that most of them aren't written by either A) Whedon or the Mutant Enemy team or B) awesome comic writers. No offense to Brent Matthews, but he hasn't really proven himself as a capable comic writer. It was a cool idea to get Peter David on the Spike one shot, I'd like to see what other traditional comic writers could do with Angel. Mark Waid, anyone?
