When Angel Comes To Town

This is in regard to the upcoming Buffy/Angel crossover in Season 10.

How do you think that the situation will play out with Buffy and her two vampire boyfriends in the same story line? Almost certainly, Spike and Angel are both going to be less than happy with the situation, but what is Buffy's reaction going to be? Specifically, do you think that Angel's presence will either destroy or significantly weaken Buffy's feelings for Spike, or will it actually make her more sure that those feelings are real?

I try to keep relatively spoiler free for the comics so this is news to me. A crossover did seem inevitable though so I'll jump in here anyway. I think it is going to be extremely awkward and confusing for Buffy. There's a real "out of sight, out of mind" quality about the Buffy and Angel relationship. While he's not around I think it's easy enough for Buffy to get on with her life and not really give him a second thought.

When he's around though there's such an epic feeling given all they've been through. I can't imagine we'd get a scene with Buffy and Spike openly kissing in front of everyone like we did in the last issue for example. I don't suppose it will make Buffy's feelings for Spike any weaker, she knows how she feels at this time and I don't think seeing Angel will change that. I think the bigger question will be how does she feel about Angel? Will seeing him bring that instant feel good feeling that we've seen from Buffy every other time he appears or will this time be significantly different after everything that happened with Twilight.

I agree. This will be the first time that Buffy and Angel have been together since Twilight and Giles' death, and there have to be issues to be addressed concerning all of that. Also, this will be the first time that Angel has ever been in the situation of being around Buffy and a new boyfriend, figuratively speaking, since Riley in "The Yoko Factor," and with Spike being that boyfriend...

Buffy may end up staking both of them.

Yeah it's going to be unbelievably awkward. It would be nice if it doesn't descend into a scene like some of the ones from The Girl in Question. Spike has worked with Angel a few times since and is now trying to start a real relationship with Buffy. So from my stand point I think it would look really bad if he started throwing that in Angel's face when the tension builds up. I mean I expect a few insults and I'm fine with Spike giving Angel some stick and vice versa but it would be nice if Buffy wasn't chucked around as part of it.

And if Spike beat Angel before, when the only reward was just a cup of luke warm, flat Mountain Dew in a fancy brass cup, because he wanted it the most, how badly dismembered is Angel gonna be this time?

But, seriously, it wouldn't surprise me in the least if Spike and Angel have a less than friendly rematch. What would be a mystery to me is, will Buffy try and separate them, or just sit back with a bowl of popcorn and enjoy the show, with or without oil? Then again, she might just get disgusted and kick both of them out of the house.

What I hope happens is that Angel, after Twilight, has renouced all thoughts of being with Buffy in a romatic sense. I hope he comes to help out (presumably when called and asked) and then when he sees Buffy with Spike he accepts it with grace.

...But what are the chances of that ever happening? Angel gets really jealous of Buffy's boyfriends and Spike (also known to be jealous on occassion) turns nasty whenever Angel is around to hide his insecurities (which are still evident in his burgeoning relationship with Buffy) so yeah, there's gonna be some snark.
I just hope Angel comes out better than the last time he appeared in a Buffy comic...

The main thing I'm interested in is how Buffy is going to play this. How is she going to treat Angel? How is she going to reassure Spike? Is she or will she treat him (and Angel) like the semi-immortal creatures they're supposed to be, like adults.

I'm also looking forward to seeing Angel interact with Xander and maybe even Dawn. That will be something new at least.
Vampires bitching at each other? Not so much.

Skipping all the usual jokes and shipper banter for a moment (difficult, but I can do it if no one goads me) if, as we're led to believe at the moment, bringing Angel to San Francisco is Buffy's idea, it's going to be something that she sees as being vitally important, and something that she is going to make every possible effort to keep on as strictly as businesslike basis as possible. She is with Spike now, it's a decision that she reached without the depression and loss of focus that she had in Season 6, and, if she has as much as an ounce of integrity and honesty in her soul, she is going to make that crystal clear from the very first moment that Angel arrives on the scene, both to him, and to everyone else within her group, most importantly the man who is sharing her bed and inside whose brain and very soul she has just been traveling. She convinced Spike of his self worth in Season 7, and it's now just as important that she convinces him that he is the one who she has chosen.

Then she can sit back with that bowl of popcorn that I mentioned before and enjoy watching the two loves of her life slug it out. She could even take videos to post on Youtube.

the first morning (and last, apparently. What is it with Angel and women? If it weren't for rare one night stands, Angel would be living like a monk. Even with the curse hanging over his head, his little episodes with both Darla and Eve should have taught him exactly what Wes confirmed. Moments of complete happiness are few and far between) that she woke up next to him in "Power Play."

Oh, I agree completely. At this point in her life, Buffy is, hopefully, past all the immaturity of high school crushes and college girl fantasies.

No, she does not, not after what happened in season 8. And Angel! Angel doesn't get to act jealous or petty or whatever, not anymore. It's way too late for that.

I agree, he doesn't have the right to be jealous, no more here than he did in Season 4 with Riley. Maybe even less right now, because no he knows that his curse doesn't completely rule out a normal love life, assuming that he can find a willing partner. Just because he doesn't have the right, of course, doesn't mean that he won't do it.

And that in no way excuses Spike's behavior, either. I have no doubt that the "2 Ex Factor" is going to be played out to the very limits.

Hopefully, they'll take a few moments away from the strutting and posturing to get thedemon situation straightened out.
