Oh, good. I was beginning to think that maybe I had slept through one of his early scenes, before they got his "look" established..
 
First of all, AWW Amy Acker!! And that's the pic you clicked to see. (sw)

Umm, looks like Angel's teeth was ruined by eating too much chocolate bar. I think it's just the light that made it look like that.

I think this image is a promo from the first season of BTVS. On all the gallery sites I used, it's included in the first season section, so I'm guessing this is before the show's premier, before they got the vampire look sorted.

Yup this is season one. The jacket is a tell tale give away lol

How could that be when they didn't decide to make Angel a vampire until the 5th or 6th episode and didn't reveal it to the audience until Episode 7, "Angel?" Showing him as a vampire before then would have destroyed the big surprise. Even with that god-awful makeup, David is still recognizable.

I think a big chunk of the first season had actually been shot before it got its tv premiere.
 
I think it was shot completely, so no one would have seen the promos until they were released by the network when they chose to, so it's entirely possible that this shot was taken around the time they were creating David'd vamp look.
 
On air, Angel's most demonic looking in the Pilot of his show. They tried out a new style, but didn't like it, so they went back to the Buffy one.
