When did the Turok-Han become pushovers?

This is one of the things in 'Chosen' that makes it a really innacurate episode that doesn't fit in place with the rest of the season.

One Turok-Han almost killed Buffy. She was a walking bruise afterwards and they didn't know if she'd survive.

Then in Chosen they become so easy to kill that even Anya, Long John Xander and even Dawn are killing them without a moments pause.

And there are thousands in that little cave, and about 30 slayers. If one could almost take out the most experienced slayer of all of them, you do the math on how much that would be serious overkill.

Did the Turok-Han get ill?

This has been discussed a lot before.

Seriously, though. Does it really matter? Would you rather see all those Turok-Hans win and kill everyone? Sort of a depressing finale, don't you think?

I'm not saying I wanted them to kill everyone, I'm just saying that it's unrealistic for them to kick the crap out of Buffy then get their asses handed to them by a pirate and a whingy teenager.

i don't know if there's ever been any serious answer to this, but has anyone given any thought to the fact that this might be about confidence?
when Buffy first faced the Turok-han, she was feeling a little miserable. she had just been put in charge of girls that she should never techincally meet. these girls signified her death, so maybe she felt a little shaken. when Anabelle split, she felt bad because the girl obviously didn't think buffy could protect her, and maybe Buffy also wondered if it was true. that maybe she wasn't strong enough.
the next time Buffy faced the Uber-vamps, she had the scythe, which gave her courage, she knew she could win. she Potentials saw this and took it on board. 'Ok, Buffy isn't scared of these guys, maybe they aren't so tough afterall'
this confidence spread throughout the group...they knew they were gonna win and nothing was gonna stop them.

or maybe it's just down to errors in the script, but i like my explination better! 😀

I think I like your explanation better too. 😉

I put it down to the first uber vampire being uber uber. That's why it was first out the hellmouth. Because it was super tough and it beat the other less uber vamps off.

Really it is just poor writing that doesn't even start to defend or explain itself.

I agree about the poor writing.

yeah, but our explinations at least make a little sense in the fanverse. 😀

The inconsistency struck me as a bit off too. I mean, it would have made just as much sense if they were Putties and the power rangers, I mean slayers, didn't realize the big friggin button in the middle of their chest was their weakness, but when they did they got relegated to fodder status.

I still feel there should have been more collateral damage of the newly empowered slayers than there was, to better reflect the challenge of the Turok-han.

It seems, to me anyway, that they actually had an easier time killing the Turok-Han than normal vampires.

well they did have their slayer powers by the time they were taking on the Turok Han. I guess that helped.

Well I could possibly understand the Slayers beating up the Turok-Han, because you must remember that when Buffy first fought the Turok-Han she hadn't slept in a couple of days and when a person doesn't sleep they are obviously drained and weak and their mind-set isn't 100% focused. So because of this she got her @$$ kicked badly. The second time she got a little more rest and of course won, but due to this fight I believe Buffy did some training of herself to increase of abilities because she knew what to expect and trained the potentials in such a way as well. Also Buffy had the scythe with she passed from slayer to slayer which I'm sure gave it a nice boost, but what I don't understand is Anya, Giles, Robin, Xander, and Dawn, now them taking on the Turok-Han easily I DON'T understand ONE bit. The Turok-Han might as well have been regular vampires to them.

I always thought it was kind of a weakness on Buffy's part. Leaving all the humans alone to fight all those powerful vampires and the bringers. I always thought that she should have spared one potential to each of them. Maybe having a potential/slayer with Anya and Andrew, maybe she wouldn't have died (Which I'm still bitter about it), or maybe Robin wouldn't have been stabbed. Or maybe it wouldn't have made any different, but they were pretty weak as humans, and having a potential/slayer to help them fight could have been something smart.

Also, when Willow was done doing her magic stuff to give the slayers their powers, she just layed there and did nothing. I felt like she could have also been a big help in the big combat fighting. Yes, I know she must have been drained and all, but at the point, you fight with all you can get. Come on, she was a powerful witch and she coudn't use a few spells to kill some of those vampires and bringers out in the hallway? What about the ball of sunshine she was working on a few years earlier? I felt like she could have done more, and she was underused. She was a goddness now anyway, she wasn't in any real danger of becoming evil again.

Although I always thought that the Turok-Ham were more scary than actually deadly. Even though they were hard to kill, they weren't that hard. Its like someone said before, it was all about confidence. But for the humans, confidence surely wasn't enough.

I think your right. It had to do with Buffy's confidence and focus, plus the scythe I think gave them all a power boost.

Joss has said that he was more worried about female empowermant more than the cointinuity I think...

*I think*

I'm sticking to my original theory, the first turok hans had been out of the hell mouth and had likely fed from humans whereas the other ones had been locked in the hellmouth for centuries without any the middle of a battle we see them taking time to chow down on slayers, which suggests they where starving.

I always put this down to the first Turok-Han having been given a power boost by the First, in the same way that he charged up Caleb when needed. That would explain why he appeared a lot more powerful than the rest of them seen in Chosen. They were still technically a more powerful breed of demon than the regular vamp but maybe nowhere near as tough as the First wanted Buffy to believe.
