When did Xander know about Buffy & Spike having Sex?

Thinking about what would be going through Xander and Buffy's minds during the scene in Gone when Xander walks in on Spike & Invisi-Buffy having sex.

In Entropy, Xander acted like he didn't know that Buffy & Spike had sex but he HAD to have known in Gone when he walked in on naked spike on the bed "exercising".

As the scene played out, it was clear that Spike was with an invisible lover and knowing that Buffy was invisible at that time, Xander HAD to have known it was her! Maybe he didn't want to believe it? Or maybe he suspected as soon as he walked in and stayed out of some morbid fascination?

If invisi-Buffy figured that Xander might guess that she was there right in front of him having sex with Spike, it was almost kind of cruel of her; how she was sucking on Spikes ear as Xander was talking to him about trying to save her just seemed like a cruel thing to do Xander who she knew always had a crush on her. Almost as cruel as her dance tease to him in When She Was Bad.

My guess is that Xander didn't want to know. It's pretty obvious to the audience what's going on but I don't know that Xanders first thought would be Spike is having sex with Buffy. He didn't know about their make out sessions. Although it was pretty obvious when he walks in on Spike and Buffy in the kitchen at the beginning of the episode. Xander seemed so shocked and disgusted when it was finally revealed that I believe he never suspected a thing.

I think it shows that Xander never in a million years saw Buffy ever hooking up with Spike. He told Buffy he never thought that Spike would ever have a chance with a girl like her. The thought was beyond ridiculous for him that he was blind to all the obvious clues.

I think this particular scene is a case of the writing as well. They were going for the joke of the situation to get laughs from the audience. Trouble is, it makes Xander seem ridiculous for not realizing what was going on. I can believe the other scenes where he skates by Buffy and Spike together, but this one is too in your face and I think the writers were just going for the joke.

Xander's genuine shock and hurt when it's revealed during Entropy show to me that he really had no clue, even though some scenes were written so obviously that he really should have haha

As for invisi-Buffy, I think it was more reckless of her to act that way with Xander in the room than it was hurtful to him. At this point, I think Xander's love for Buffy is more looking to her as a hero than a crush. At the end of the season, Xander has to come to terms that his friend isn't a perfect person and that she has a right to her own personal life whether he likes it or not. So I don't view the scene as being hurtful to Xander, more just careless of Buffy since she easily could have been caught (and seemingly doesn't want to be for the majority of her time with Spike).

I disagree that Xander "had to know". He might have suspected but they have encountered invisible people before and because he didn't hear her voice, he would have no reason on to think it was Buffy and good reason to think it wasn't, Buffy having given no indication of her and Spike's true relationship. Not saying anything wasn't cruel, Buffy knowing damn well this would only confirm it was her. Also, Spike could have been doing something else that he was trying to cover up as "exercising". "Bed humping" I believe it is called which is actually a thing and something I would wager Xander would be familiar with given his history in the "funny high school virgin" club. It is likely that he did not want to know. Not only about a possible Buffy connection but generally about whatever Spike might be doing in his sweaty, "kind of compact but well muscled", writhing nakedness. Keep in mind, this is not too long after Buffy's "I am not sleeping with Spike! But I'm staring to think you might be" tease in the "intervention" scene.

That scene would have been ten times better, in my opinion, if Xander had climbed out of the lower chamber, then stood for a moment looking thoughtful, maybe a little confused, then just shrugged and said something like, "Nah, it couldn't be."

It should have been obvious to anyone what Spike's "naked pushups" actually were, even if the possibility of Buffy and Spike together wasn't. This is Sunnydale, the town where vampires and demons abound. Wouldn't at least the idea of a ghost have come to Xander's clouded, befuddled mind? The scene was put in for comedy, certainly, but why did it have to portray Xander, the guy later described as the one who "sees everything," as being so stupid?

Even Andrew would have seen what was really going on.
