Inspired by Fool4Love's thread: which characters do you dislike/hate/don't care for at first and end up liking?


For me it would be Fred. I really, really dislike her until season 5. Then I love her. Then she dies. Damned.

And Cordelia and Anya. I used to dislike them and now they are amongst my favorites.

I also love Angel and Faith, but only in Ats. In BTVS they annoy the hell out of me.
 
Faith.

Hated her for most of season 3 of Buffy, but then she goes to Angel and after that I like her. A lot. From season 4 of Angel to the end of Buffy, she is pretty much made of awesome.
 
Based on where I'm at - having seen buffy through season 7 and having just finished angel season 1 - I would say Wesley.

Yeah lol. Sometimes I start reading a post thinking it's hers but it's mine and sometimes it's the other way around. 🙂

I also didn't actually care much for Xander until later on. Like season four and onward I started to really like him. Wouldn't say I hated him, I was just indifferent until then.
 
Can't say that ever happened to me. Maybe, with time, I came to love or understand some characters I disliked first time watching, but I can't say I hated someone in the earlier seasons and then loved them in the later ones, or vice versa. I guess Joyce became more likeable to me post season 3, but I never actually hated her.
 
Xander's the big one. It's not until The Replacement where I really don't dislike him. And by season 8, I feel he's a pretty likable character.

And Buffy. I don't LOVE the character of Buffy in season 1-3. 4 is where I start to really really like her and 5 is where I LOVE her.
 
I would have to say Buffy. I have a love hate relationship with her character, depending on the episode, but by the end of season 7, I love her again.

Also, I hated Wesley in Buffy but thought he was great on Angel.
 
When Tara first showed up I really didn't like her, but it may have mostly been bitterness that she got in the way of my Willow/ Oz relationship, haha. Now I've been watching season 4 and 5 again, and suddenly I'm like, in love with her! 😀
 
Anya really warmed to me after a couple of rewatches (though I still can't stand her in most of season 7 for bitching at Buffy for no reason). Andrew as well went from annoying to endearing.
 
For me it was Buffy and Riley. I used to hate them with passion because my canon used to be fanfiction and they're usually bashed and hated on there, then I started watching the show and discovered that they're decent human beings and I fell in love with both of them.

When I first watched "Angel", I hated Illyria, but the more times I've watched it I've come to actually love her character and Amy Acker for being able to play such opposite characters so believably.

I don't think there are any characters on BtVS that I started out hating and came to love later on... I pretty much love all of them.
 
Dawn (not likeable until the end of season 5), Spike (thought he was ugly and uninteresting, then I grew up, thought he was hot but very annoying, then I saw season 7 and am now in love with him), Anya (I can tolerate and appreciate her now, but do not get how Xander could date her, that made him a hypocrite), Cordelia (I began tolerating her in btvs season 2, admired her on ats), maybe Tara, definitly Kennedy(still don't like, but don't loathe), Faith(thanks to ats), Connor(thanks to after the fall and later), Wesley.

Probably more people as well. More often than not, bad characters grew on the show and evolved in a realistic way. Still don't trust or like Andrew though.
 
I never "hated" Tara, but I didn't really get her till sometime in season 5. I just didn't understand why she was the woman that made Willow realize she was gay. Then I slowly grew to love her and by Season 6, her presence was crucial to my enjoyment of the show.
 
In season 4, I didn't like Tara. I was still upset over Oz/Willow and really didn't find Tara crucial to any storyline (plus I used to think she was too twitchy and nervous).

In season 5, I came to like her and Tillow. In Season 6, I loved Tara, especially how motherly she was towards Dawn.

Also, Cordelia. I thought Cordelia was incredibly annoying for the first season (and parts of season 2). Once she started growing into a more complex character, I started liking her more.

I didn't like Tara. Not sure when I changed my mind on her, it was so long ago. It was just a weird transition period in season 4 and I really liked Oz and Willow but by season six I really grew fond of her.
