Hey, everyone!

Does anybody have any tips on what you can do to relieve stress and generally get back on track when Real Life has you down? I'm having a really hard time focusing on various projects and commitments and managing my time. I seem to spend hours working on things, and yet getting nothing done.

That being the case, I figured a Real Life tips thread was in order. Does anyone have any tips? I'm fresh out. 🙂

AMEN! Right there with ya!
Never give up. Because that's what I'm doing at the moment and life is big a-- bummer atm. ~I'd love some tips too~

Music always helps me...or just taking some alone time to breathe, and I mean like no phone, emails, people in general. I always find that being able to just centre yourself helps with gaining clarity and focus.

At the moment I have several problems, so I deal with them one at a time. That way they don't get to big. For about 3 years I have been trying to find who I can get in contact with to get copyright permission for a story I'd written. Yesterday, quite by accident, I found out how to get a message to that person then the final draft for my book comes in. I'm also trying to get a copyright permission from the BBC, that's a constant, don't ask us try this person scenario.
Working towards and getting rid of one problem is how I get by, either that or it goes in the to hard basket, which reminds me I must empty that basket.

first off, good thread. even when life is getting you down, its always nice to know you are not alone.

so, step one in "dealing with real life" is: talk to someone about it. GET IT OFF YOUR CHEST!

step two, organize your life. try to figure out whats bringing you down, then amend your life around that 'thing.'

step three, sign on to the buffy boards and have fun!

I like to take a little time out of the day for just. ME. Take a walk, read a book, sip a cup of coffee....whatever I feel like doing at the time, but it's just ME, no distractions. It's sometimes hard to find some quiet time, tho, so I occassionally have to wait till the kids go to bed, but it's still all mine.

Take a nap. 🙂 Sometimes that helps.

I find that when I'm stressed out (normally when my 25 second graders have totally flipped out and we are in the middle of chaos) I close my eyes and take deep breaths until I'm ready to face it again.

(And then I go hom and take a nap) (Oh, and eat Twix bar!)

ow yum twix bar. good advice ;)
I tend to officially disregard all responsibilities; anything that's due, anywhere I have to be, anything I have to do, anything, I just drop it, force myself to forget and not care about it and have an hour or so (Or sometimes a whole day depending on the stress level, haha) doing nothing but indulging. Be it chocolate, popcorn, reading a book, surfing the net, a Buffyfest, Angelfest, Moviefest, Bubble bath, enjoy some music, go out, or all of the above. Anything that allows you to completely forget the rest of the world for just a little bit and I usually come back ready for anything. (Well, I'll never be ready for a spider attack god forbid, but anything work-related I am so game)

Make some little goals with your work, then just getting the tiniest bit done is rewarded.
If you are able to then get away for a weekend.
I am lucky in my love for horses as they will always make my problems dissapear if only for a moment. Do you have anything like that?
I hope things get better for you 🙂

Do some kinda big change, I personally decided to drop out of college and move to Hawaii fr like 3 months, Im still in the middle of this plan, but it's working so far 🙂

Hawaii's a great place to visit, but you don't want to live there.
There's an old song (just the thing for an old man like me!) called "Counting My Blessings," that usually does it for me. I just start concentrating on all of the good things the good lord has given me, the wonderful places that I have been, and the good friends that I have made. By the time I get going with that, I've usually either forgotten my problems altogether, or at least put them in a perspective where they can be dealt with much more easily.

I know it sounds pretty corny, but it's always worked for me.

I allow myself one day to mope/wallow and then the next day process it and plan how to deal with it. It lets you get all your emotions out in a quick time frame and then move onto the next step which is resolving the problem.

I kinda got stuck in a 'lost' rut for awhile. No motivation, no get go, no nothing. Not a nice place to be, so when I eventually spanked my inner-moppet, I did so by going after things that I used to love but had somehow lost on my travels.

I'm not sure how this will apply to you but I got involved in one of my passions again, something I truly love to do. Remember I told you bout that whole 'life changing convo' thing? well that stemmed from getting my arse into gear and doing something about my dreams and goals instead of just dreaming about them.

I know you love to write and that you are always working at that but what other passions do you have? engage them, how? I dodn't know, but from my experience they're is always a way. Impossible is nothing aand if your feeling uninspired and hopeless this quote may work for ya, it always does for me.

Do not let your fire go out, spark by irreplacable spark. In the hopeless swamps of the not quite, the not yet, and the not at all, do not let the hero in your soul perish and leave only frustration for the life you deserved, but never have been able to reach. The world you desire can be won, it exists, it is real, it is possible, it is yours.

Thanks for all of the advice and encouragement, guys!

I'm sort of sifting through it and trying to come up with a plan. I'm also going to the doc here soon, (in the beginning of March) as I am concerned that some seemingly unrelated physical symptoms may point to something larger, like, say, my mom's thyroid condition.

oh, dear... :S
What usually helps me is to count to 10. First, you take a deep breath, and then you say the number you're on. As you're exhaling, you say a problem you have, releasing it from your life. It kind of works if you really want it to or believe it to. 🙂

Or, I write down a list of priorities I have. Then I go and do something really fun and I come back and lop off the things on the list that look way less important then they once did. 🙂

Hope I helped! 😀

HHHhhmmm......well what helps me is going to the gym....I don't go as often as I should but after haveing a bad night at work or just being stressed out with my ex, I just take my ipod and go run for awhile. Just getting into the music and breaking a sweat I feel so relieved and calm afterwards and also full of good (kick butt)energy.:smileyb:

Well I usually find that I need time to myself to get things sorted in my head. So 1st step for me is to go on a drive with my music on full blast. This really sorts me out and makes me feel loads better.

2nd step would then be to go and eat as much junk food as is physically possible without being sick.

3rd step is to drag my mates round or to go out with them and make myself chill out with a bottle of wine, and let my hair down.

and finally 4th step is to hit the gym to burn off all the food and alcohol that I have consumed!!!

Also if those 4 steps fail I get in a hot bath with posh bubble bath, (I normally find Lush products work best for me), light some candles and put my music on!!!

Also swimming seems to destress me... hope this helps. If you think it is a medical condition though, you definitely need to seek medical advice.

lol. Good plan!
I always find that if I am swarmed to the point I cant see straight. (too much to handle at one time) I need to just kinda let my brain relax. Its incrediably hard to do. But I have to make myself just take time away from everything so my mind can recouprate. Once that is done you can re-engage with bettter clarity about how you are gonna go about handling everything. perhaps start by making a list and prioritizing what is easiest first. What can you nock of the list faster leaving more time to focus on the harder things. Even if you have to get the harder thing done before the others things sometimes those other things can just plague you from truly focusing.

If time is a factor, and you truly feel like you cant step away from everything for a bit TOUGH...make yourself...because stressing yourself out over it is not helping you utilize that time at all.

hope that help you darling.

Edit:

oh and once you are done be sure to reward yourself somehow...often times the satisfaction is enough but still take time to do something special for you. 🙂

I'm not having the greatest year either (8th grade is really a bummer) but I have some ways of dealing. lock yourself in your room and listen to music or write in a journal. or just get out. thats what i do!🙂
But the thing that really cheers me up is when i get on the computer, log into Buffy-Boards and get talking to all you guys!
