Sorry, lol. When you say 'postmodern nod' I thought you meant 'nod' as in something more metaphorical or theoretical, not a literal nod. It was me confusing both of us!
 
I was a little upset when i watched that episode...because Buffy doing that dance just to piss Angel...and the way she was talking to her friends and Angel,even Cordy...but then i realised how traumatic the Master experience was...that girl died...for a minute yes...but it could have been permanent if Xander didn't give her CPR

She was bitchy but it was just a phase...besides she realised what kind of behaviour was that but she just felt lost and traumatised...

Great observation. It's definitely a post-modern filmic device to 'break the fourth wall' and address the audience. Woody Allen does it all the time.

Agreed. The Buffy in this episode is very similar to Wishverse Buffy. I think this episode had two purposes. 1.) To show how tramatized she was by her shortlived death by The Master and 2.) to yet again remind the audience just how important Buffy's friends are to her and her mission. They're what make her different than past Slayers, she has a support base. That's why Spike couldn't kill her. Without them, she would have been dead a long time ago. What if Xander hadn't been there? Personally, I love how its Xander that saves her. It really strenghens their bond.
