When She Was Bad

Aired: September 15, 1997
Writer: Joss Whedon
Director: Joss Whedon

Trivia:

- Xander makes a comment about Buffy's new shorter, blonder hair. This is because Sarah Michelle Gellar had had her hair restyled for Scream 2 (1997) which she filmed during the hiatus between Seasons 1 and 2 of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer".

Goofs:

- When Willow, Giles, Cordelia, and Ms. Calender are hanging upside-down over the bones of the Master Giles's hand brushes against the bones making them bend like rubber.

- When a rock is thrown through the library window with a note attached, Buffy catches it, removes the note and sets the rock on the table to her left. The view cuts away for a moment, and when it cuts back, Buffy has the rock in her lap and sets it on the table to her left a second time.

- When Buffy smashes the Master's skeleton, she smashes his ribcage twice; once in an over-the-shoulder shot, and once in the shot where Angel approaches her.

- When Buffy's mom drives her to school the morning after her nightmare, Buffy is wearing a pink top. However, when she gets to school, she is wearing a white tank top. The next day, she is wearing the pink top again.

Best quotes:

- Buffy: Well, that works out great. You won't tell anyone that I'm the Slayer, and I won't tell anyone you're a moron.

- Buffy: Cordelia, your mouth is open, sound is coming from it, this is never good.

- Willow: I mean, why else would she be acting like such a b-i-t-c-h?
Giles: Willow, I think we're a little too old to be spelling things out.
Xander: A "bitca"?

- Cordelia: You're really campaigning for bitch of the year, aren't you?
Buffy: As defending champion, you nervous?

- Willow: The other night, I dreamt that Xander... uh, it wasn't Xander. In fact, it wasn't me, it was a friend's dream and... she doesn't remember it.

- Principal Snyder: There are some things I can just smell. It's like a sixth sense.
Giles: No, actually, that would be one of the five.

- Buffy: Come to The Bronze before it opens or we make her a meal.
Xander: They're gonna cook her dinner? I'll pretend I didn't say that.

This episode is full of great quotes 🙂

Soundtrack:

- "It Doesn't Matter" - Alison Krauss & Union Station

- The Burning Man festival, which Ms. Calendar attended over the summer, is a "temporary art community" set up every summer in the Black Rock Desert of Nevada by Larry Harvey's Burning Man Organization, which presents visual arts, music, performance art, and other full-involvement artistic expressions.

- The evangelistic vampire named Absalom is named after a character in the Bible, whose story is told in the second book of Samuel. Absalom, the third son of King David, turned against his father and challenged him for the kingdom of Israel. After a civil war, Absalom was killed by Joab, the leader of King David's army.

Notes:

- David Boreanaz became a regular cast member as of this episode.

- In Buffy's absence, Giles, Xander and Willow buried the Master's bones in the Sunnydale Cemetery, and poured holy water on the burial site.

- Although the Hellmouth is closed following the events of "Prophecy Girl," the mystical energy from it is still concentrated around Sunnydale.

I like this episode very much although I don't approve Buffy's behaviour! I do understand however why she acted this way.

Buffy comes back from summer holidays which is good! And she looks very pretty and ass-kicking!!! I enjoyed some of her quotes especially towards Cordy but I didn't like her behaviour towards Angel. He didn't do anything bad to deserve this IMO. Except for the fact that he is a vampire, so Buffy kinda considers him the "enemy" although of course we know she doesn't feel that way at all. She just pretends she doesnt care, that she is not emotionally connected and that she has more serious things to deal with.

I love the scene in her bedroom where Angel comes for a visit. And the "i missed you" was so sweet! Amazing Alison Krauss and "it doesn't matter" really touched my heart.

Poor Buffy dealt with death. It is a big deal. But I don't approve her behaviour in the Bronze...taking advantage of Xander, dancing with him...hurting both her friend Will and Angel...

Eventually she breaks the Master's bones and cries in the arms of her Angel.

I didn't like how buffy acted in the begining of the episode. But the opening of the episode is one that really stands out in my mind. Nice facts!

Buffy was definitely a bitca, but that's why some of the scenes really worked. Some of my favorite moments:

- Cordelia trying to talk some sense into Buffy outside the Bronze. Really loved this scene because Cordy wasn't really a 'friend' of the group at this point. Her confronting Buffy about it almost meant more than if Xander or Willow did. If nothing else, Cordy is always 100% honest.

- Love how she let down her attitude after Angel said, "I missed you," and she turned around to say it back to him, but he was already gone. She didn't even get out the entire sentence and you could tell that she needed him... she was just too late in showing it.

- It was kind of sweet how Xander and Willow acted like nothing was wrong at all at the end of the episode in the classroom. I totally felt how Buffy would be nervous about going in there and confronting them. They totally smoothed it over for her and you could see the relief in her face that she had such great friends.

I'm rewatching this ep as I type. I can't get over how mean Buffy is, from the very beginning of the ep. She calls her two best friends "losers"? WTF. I guess Buffy's meanness just seemed really out of character, even given what she had gone through in "Prophecy Girl".
I love the scene where Snyder's talking about "hormones" and Giles and Jenny are in the background flirting with each other. LOL "I might as well be talking to myself"... And he doesn't even realize they're gone. 😉 Awww, this ep reminds me of how much I miss Jenny Calendar.
I LOVE Buffy's hair in Season 2. The short layered bob is so cute and flattering. I remember having my hair cut like that to try to look like that. Yeah it didn't work out as well as SMG's hair did. 😛
I have noticed the above mentioned bloopers ever since I first saw this ep. The bones being broken all over again were really noticeable, as was the pink/white tank top mishap. Well, at least for me...
And AWWW@Xander and Willow in this ep. This episode really made me hope for Xillow back in the day...

And stylists all over the place to fix it for her. LOL

What is up with the cheesy infomercial music at the end of the ep when Buffy, Xander, and Willow are talking in class? WTF.
