At the beginning of the this episode Willow & Xander play the movie game. Then Willow sits on the wall, Xander puts ice cream on her nose, this leads up to the non-kiss because some demon decides to break up the possible romantic break-through for Willow.

If they had kissed, how would the relationship progressed? Would the writers still have a lesbian Willow later or do you think they have developed the story into them being a couple? Of they would still have broken up somehow, as I can't remember any permanant relationships at all in any of the shows.

If Willow and Xander had kissed and ended up having a relaionship i don't think they would have been able to stay friends. When you look at Xander and Anya when they were broken up, there was always more than friendship between them so they would either fight and bicker or they would be looking at each other with regret for breaking up.
Nobody lasts forever (well very rarely) so they would have broken up and maybe willow would still have became gay then, maybe not. But if Willow and Xander had kissed im not even so sure they would have had a relationship, they may have kissed and then pulled away and just ignored it.

Im gonna say if Xander and Willow had have kissed that Willow would ahve wanted more but Xander would not have given her it so things would still go the same apart from it would have hurt Willow even more when Xander got together with Cordy.

Well considering Joss' track record I think we can say for sure that if it had progressed into a relationship that would have undoubtedly broken up at some point.

However if they had actually kissed I'm not sure whether it would have progressed into something, as while Willow would definitely have been into it, Xander was still not that into Willow and this was just a brief moment in which he saw something. I thjink the return of Buffy would have distracted him from ever pursuing any further kisses, but Willow would have wanted to which would have lead to extreme awkwardness and perhaps tension between the two and so between the entire group as a whole.

my thoughts exactly :)
Their love would have been over before the end of the season.
Xander just didn't see her in that way, when he says he loves her,its in a brother/sister configuration, not in the sexual one.
Although the stuff when they are rubbing their feet up each others legs is explored later on,it was cumbersome and childlike. Her true love was Tara, not Xander,so it wouldn't have lasted even if they did hook up,because when she came along, she'd fall for her everytime.
It was fate!

I wonder how Cordelia felt after finding out that the girl who messed up her relationship with Xander was actually not interested in guys?

Willow was interested in guys at the time so I wouldn't say that it should be a big deal. Not like Willow was gay and messed up the relationship just to mess with Cordelia.

I think the relationship would have progressed in the same fashion. They still needed it as a catalyst to break up Cordy and Xander.

No, I don't think the writers ever intended for Xander and Willow to be a long-term couple. It would have messed the dynamic of the Core Four too much in the long-haul. At the heart, the core theme, of the show is the power of friendship - Xander and Willow were only high-school loves, a phase or whatever you'd like to call it.

yeah if they had kissed, their relationship would have been ended soon enough, then Willow would find out she was gay, blabla..

and you know what like Joss is with relationships on buffy.

Like Joyce Summers had said before,
I think that if Xander and Willow had kissed then it would have been a tease for Willow.
Buffy would be back and Xanders feelings for her would still be there, trying to get her attention, talking about her to Willow.
I think Willow would have eventually resented Buffy, though of course it's not her fault, but jealousy is a strong emotion.

They didn't even kiss and yet later on in the episode Willow gets her hopes up, when they're at the Bronze and she puts more ice cream on her nose, thinking Xander will lick it off like the night before, when he just turns around and says "You have something on your nose" her face was sad.

I completely agree. While back before they introduced Oz I was completely pro Xillow, I still don't think it would have ever worked long term. Joss doesn't like people on his shows to be happy for very long...

Sad, but true.
And if there is perfect happiness then characters end up losing their sole and attempting to kill their one true love only to make her mad and then end up being sent to hell for enternal tourment.
At least until season 3 haha

Of I forgot that they did actually kiss eventually, it lead to big break ups all round, Oz & Willow - Xander & Cordelia - I suppose if there were to be a relationship it would have started there, but I guess it wasn't meant to be (sigh!)

I didn't really want Willow and Xander to get together.
Same with Xander and Buffy, I just kinda think that it was meant to be that they all be good friends.
It would have been weird otherwise.
