When were they bad friends?

But that only illustrates my point. If Buffy still saw Xander as "Scooby Xander," she would never have that sort of romantic feelings for him. The scooby gang is in effect extinct by Season 8. That doesn't mean that the individuals themselves can't remain friends, but that "One for all, and all for one" camaraderie, the very thing that defined them as a gang, team, or crew, no longer exists.

I get what you meant now. And I agree. S8 didn't have a Scooby gang as much as three friends trying to run a slayer organazation.

If one of my best friends pretended to be dead for 3 months I would be FURIOUS. It would not be forgiven straight away.

Word. I personally think that Joyce, Xander and Willow's anger is the biggest proof that they love and care about Buffy. Cordelia and Oz, on the other hand, weren't angry because they didn't care about Buffy as much as Xander and Willow did.

See I think Buffy leaving all her friends and letting them think she was dead was INCREDIBLY selfish and made me think she was a bad friend.

When did Buffy pretend to be dead? She ran away from home, but nobody thought that she was anything more than badly upset, heart broken, angry, and maybe avoiding any legal problems about Kendra's death and all of the damage and mayhem that had resulted in stopping Angelus' plan to destroy the world. Why would Giles have been traveling all over the country trying to find Buffy if he thought that she was dead?

I think, that considering the circumstances that their mates assumed that Buffy was dead. Giles was searching for her, sure, but I thought it was pretty clearly alluded to that there was no chance.

She was fighting with Angelus and then disappeared so I can personal say that if I was Buffys mate I would assume she was dead.

Perhaps I'm just a pessimist.

Her friends that loved her and cared about her and she knew that. They sacrificed their lives and safety to protect her and Willow almost DIED trying to make things okay for Buffy.

Would it really have killed her to send an anonymously addressed letter to her mum and/or Giles saying 'I'm alive and safe but please don't come looking'.

If one of my best friends pretended to be dead for 3 months I would be FURIOUS. It would not be forgiven straight away.

Like i said its my opinion theres no fact in this its just a thread based on opinions.
but i shall comment and say that buffy had everyday risked her own life saving theirs, and ACTUALLY died, seeing as alot of the time xander and willow needed saving 24/7. In My Opinion i think she had every right to bugger off without having to tell anyone. plus i dont think she never preteneded to be dead?? :s lol she just left town without a say is all. just saying they should have understood her reasons for this.
but hey its each to their own 🙂

You got your facts wrong. Buffy never confessed she loved Spike to anyone but Spike in Chosen. And the Scoobies didn't send Spike away in Empty Places, Giles did that and I'm sure he didn't do it for petty reasons like keeping Spike away from Buffy.

As for joining the group, Giles had told Spike that he could be part of them in S4, but Spike flat out refused. Every time the gang go to Spike for help, he flat out tells them he won't help them because he's evil and will kill them when he gets his chip out. All that followed by a betrayal with Adam and then kidnapping the doctor to get the chip out and try to kill Buffy, and then chaining Buffy and threatening to kill her if she didn't tell him she loved him, I personally don't hold it against the Scoobies if they felt wry of Spike after all that.

Well I see what you want to say. But I still rest at my opinion when I say that in season 7 the Scoobie Gang knew that Buffy loves Spike. Anyway they showed their dislike towards Spike. On the top, Giles tried to kill him together with Wood. Those moments I meant. 😀

Like any group of friends, the Scoobies bonded because of a certain set of circumstances, in their case the double bond of high school and patrolling the hellmouth. Once that particular set of circumstances stopped, the individuals began to form their own separate lives and to drift apart. We see this begin in Season 4, when part of the bond is severed for Xander. He goes out into the "real world" and joins the work force, while Buffy and Willow remain students. The group still has the hellmouth, but, beyond that, their lives begin to diverge. By Season 6, Xander is a full time construction worker, Willow has entered into the equivalent of marriage with Tara, Giles has gone back home to England, and Buffy is dead. Buffy's resurrection brings a temporary re-bonding of the group, but it is only short lived, lasting through Season 6 and partway into Season 7, but "Empty Places" was the death knoll for the original Scooby gang, and we will almost certainly never see the group that close together again. Certainly, they may come together in a time of crisis, Twilight, for instance, but once the battle is over, they all once more go their separate ways.

That's not so much being "bad" friends, or even losing the feeling of kinship that they have enjoyed for all the years. It's just growing up, growing apart, and each making his or her own life. The closest thing to the "gang" still in existence is Spike and Buffy, and even their bond has evolved into something different than it was in Sunnydale.

Wow, you summed this up very well, I was thinking of a way to word it, and you nailed it.

Of course it is a comment based on opinion. What else would we be speaking about? Someone else's? Buffy's choice was to be friends with Xander and Willow. Regardless of whether she had to save them or not she still skipped town when it was a fair assumption that her friends would assume she was dead. If you can not see this than I'm a little jealous because you are clearly living in a world where you are protected quite largely. I would be more than happy for this to be given an example. Do you have friends or family members? How about we take away your mother, with no warning, just pick her up and let her live her own life for a good 3 months. She will not contact you or tell you where she is going. She will just pick up and leave because she doesn't like you. I am pretty sure you will not like this. Honestly, I kind of hope it happens to you so you learn to experience some empathy because you clearly haven't ever experienced a loved one disappearing. Don't play stupid. Of COURSE she knew her friends would expect her to be dead. Of course I am playing with an exaggerated example here because hey! We don't have vampire slayers for friends and I'm sure you will not even understand what kind of comparison I am joining but honestly? That is fine. Enjoy your perfect life over there.

If she hadn't left a note to her mother saying that she had gone, I could definitely see the Scoobies thinking she was dead. Maybe even thinking that Angelus had captured her (since he was missing too).

Woah!! Are u for real??? I think its u that needs to step out into the real world and get some fresh air.
There is no need to get personal and say thing like "i kinda hope it happens to you" wtf? i think u need help. ITS A TV SHOW! people come on here to share their opinions on an TV show we all love. Its not about trying to force everyone into a single view about the show, thats why people put IMO. Everyone sees the show in different ways and that is what is great about it. I think its great we all have different views about the characters etc and its great that most members do not judge eachother for their individual views. thats what the boards are for.

Sometimes I really don't know why I bother on here. It's just a permanent of noobs that get offended at the drop of a hat. Sorry if I offended you, I didn't realise that you were such a delicate flower princess.

haha you must be kidding? for 1. drop of a hat? you were so rude for no reason at all you have no idea what goes on in people lives yet you judged me on my opinion. i think your the person who took this completely to heart to have had the response you did to my post. im not a 'delicate flower princess' at all i dont no where you got the impression from. sorry for not just accepting a stranger wishing bad things upon me and my family and for calling me stupid i wouldnt want anyone to just accept that. everyone on buffy-boards seems nice so i dont get what your saying about 'permanent of noobs'. chill winston.

Did I, or did I not apologise? Can't you just accept the apology and get over it? I don't want to fight with you. Also, you may have rubbed me up the wrong way because I'm hardly a stickler for things being perfect but some capital letters wouldn't go astray 🙂

Back on topic now?

I think they were bad friends when Buffy had money troubles and yet she was the only one to get a job. I know Tara and Willow were at college but that doesn't mean you cant get a part time job and chip in. I think there are lots of instances when they've all been bad friends one way or another but this irked me a bit.
