When will they have...

Robots are the third industrial revolution. It's a paradigm shift of the highest order, and Science Fiction writers, well, they tend not to be economists.

I'm disinclined to believe machines would go the terminator route. Humans are agressive because humans are the product of natural selection that rewards cruelty with power. Machine intelligence may not have that parent program.
I'd argue that to be a true AI (in the scifi sense at least) they wouldn't need that parent program.

Also important to know that in the two biggest AI revolutions in movies (Terminator and The Matrix), the AIs are responding to human actions.

Skynet becomes self-aware and humans try to pull the plug.

Ani-matrix (which is considered canon) shows that AIs were pretty horribly abused.

No, we as biological machines, have the parent program. We are wired for aggression and haunted by death for very good reasons, I don't know if an AI would have those by default.

I think the concern amongst most, self included, is that as AI becomes more and more advanced, the role/needs of humanity will become more and more obsolete.

The inability to understand emotion is particularly concerning. If a large enough portion of society is AI controlled and operated, would they see humans as logically functionless and unneeded?

We’re a long ways off from that, if ever. In order for a scenario like Terminator or The Matrix to happen, artificial intelligence would have to advance beyond current capabilities. Self-aware and self-constructing AI would have to be developed, and that is something that is way beyond our reach (luckily). Currently, artificial intelligence is given a goal and has the sole function of accomplishing that goal. We would basically have to understand how to create sentient life in order to develop such dystopian futures.

Re; Self Awareness; I'm on record that true self aware AI is going to be difficult and dangerous, and will probably never be accomplished. I would be more concerned about corrupt or damaged programming, which was my understanding of what was going on with the Skynet or Master Mold scenario. Skynet was programed to defend itself, and took actions appropriate to it's programming.

Look, if you want to know my most probable scenario for machine takeover, I would say humanity tries to fight a war with machines, and machines are the only survivors, or humanity simply dies out by attrition, that the last pampered decadent humans lose interest in reproduction, and machines just ape the operation of society,

And that gets to the real problem. How do you replicate sapience? We are still struggling to identify how the cognitive revolution worked.

They flat out say in T2 that Skynet becomes self-aware 2:14 a.m., EDT, on August 29, 1997. We're told that it is programmed to defend the country (and is effectively taking over all those duties), but not that it specifically is programmed to defend itself. That's where the sentience comes in. It's able to respond outside its programming.

Looks like they're developing it with actual neurons (though it's unknown what self-awareness, if any, exists):

The implications of that are bothersome in some ways (from the mundane to the fantastic possibilities), and the implications potentially terrifying with even the potential for good raising disturbing questions about identity and consciousness.

Ignoring the possibilities I could go into among other thoughts and comments, I'll just say that this made me wonder how much this might go into explaining why some seek out very unhealthy and even dangerous relationships or habits...because it's what has become normal to them, and that's preferable to the world not having a pattern they can recognize and work with (and what is pleasure and pain is often subjective and/or overlapping, both being stimulated nerves, and a lot of times even the mere attitude will determine if a nerve stimulation leans more painful or pleasurable).

That aside, cyber-organic development does seem like the future. In nations like the US, many of us are practically cyborgs already, it's just that we can lose our implants as they're (usually) not inside our body (yet).

Those seriously rich folk like the oil rich Saudi Arabians and the gas and oil rich Russians - the world shortage of power shows that Americans are not on that list. I wonder how many examples there have been to help save mankind's dependence on fossil fuel only to have them thwarted. Personally I would have liked to see Air - Pressure equipment used to save the worlds dependence on oil products, but the CSIRO in Australia disagreed with me.

WHAT IS THIS?!?! No . No thankyou to this.

But Loab is different.

Generated by accident, she leaves an indelible trace on every image associated with her persona.

She’s often accompanied by extreme gore and violence, and it’s not clear why.

Not even those who understand this tech can explain what she’s doing here.

Somewhat scary paintings until you discover they were done by Picasso, they you might ask was he drunk to do anything so 'normal' ?
Kind of an interesting article, really. Best guess is that it’s a bug in the code somewhere, likely as a result of a software patch for the generator.

Yeah part horror story, part sci fi! Why didi it have to go with the horror? Some of those images were way too scary for me! Would it have had to source those images or ideas from the net somewhere or is it entirely making this stuff from scratch? And what does it tell us of the nature of the world when its showing freaky stuff like that!?

It was an interesting idea to get the other program to "talk" for her. Those bots have come a loooong way in how they can communicate.

Lets just hope Loab doesnt decide to go the Moloch route and build herself IRL.

“Suffice to say, I do not feel the same enthusiasm around this technology,” he wrote. “I understand that ChatGPT is in its infancy but perhaps that is the emerging horror of AI – that it will forever be in its infancy, as it will always have further to go, and the direction is always forward, always faster.

“It can never be rolled back, or slowed down, as it moves us toward a utopian future, maybe, or our total destruction. Who can possibly say which? Judging by this song ‘in the style of Nick Cave’ though, it doesn’t look good, Mark. The apocalypse is well on its way. This song sucks.”

Bug or not, now I'm going to have nightmares!! Those pictures look like something you would see on "Night Gallery", or something that was created by someone with a very DISTURBED mind!
