When You Kiss Me, I Want to Die

At NO point did Buffy and Angel EVER have a decent kiss. Personally, I like the one in OMWF AND the insane "Tear the building down" make out session. Angel couldn't beat those even with a big fat wooden stake.
Although, Angel and Cordy had some good scenes...even if they were imaginary.

There's one for my side of the score card, Miss K.

I love the kiss at the end of OMWF! I also love the one at the end of Tabula Rasa - that was really hot.

Easy in Revelations, that kiss was hot!

Remind me, what was that kiss again?

The kiss at the end of OMWF looks like they were trying to eat each other! And not the good, wholesome, "I think that vampire is hot" kinda way.

What was the point of this thread again? Oh yeah...melodrama. Tonnes of it. Because nothing makes you wanna die more when you're 16 knowing that you're in this relationship that you know, ultimately won't work but that you can't let go of. Or something.

I'll take that as one for the Bangels...

That's 2 for me and the Spuffies and 1 for Miss K and the Bangels

(You're catchin' up, darlin')

My husband's not a member...but he has input. And although, he's seen all of Angel many times, only up to about midway through season 3 of Buffy. (which means he hasn't even SEEN Buffy kiss Spike) and even HE says there is absolutely NOTHING of value in any sort of "lovey-dovey" scene that has Buffy and Angel in it. In fact, he says it makes "roll his eyes and go take a bathroom break".
Does that help the poll at all?

I consider all men and women to be gentlemen and ladies until they prove me wrong (even the yankees and Democrats!)

If nobody objects because of the gentleman's non member status, I will make the count:

Spuff--3 and Bang--1

(And for heaven's sake, girl, show your husband how Spike gets the job done!)

I'm a Spuffy fan, but I don't think there's *nothing* of value in Bangel. It was the right story for a teenage girl. That's why Romeo and Juliet works so well as a story. That's what young teen love is like (or, rather, what you want it to be like) when you're a young girl. The idea of the kind of all-consuming, romantic, eternal love for which you'd gladly die is really enticing. I think Bangel is exactly what it's supposed to be: the story of forbidden love. It's the cautionary fairy tale. It's Romeo and Juliet. It's an overblown metaphor for the real and intense teen love/angst feelings that many of us experience.

Now that I'm older, that makes me roll my eyes. But it was right for Buffy at that time.

I disagree with most Bangels that because Buffy had that love with Angel, she can't seem to ever love anyone properly or completely again. I maintain that Buffy had with Spike a real, complicated, adult kind of love. She herself admits her love twice. And we see it in the acting and the staging and we hear it between the lines, too. I don't disagree with Bangels on the value of that relationship; rather, I disagree with Bangels on the longevity of it. I don't think anything about Bangel, a relationship that is firmly in the past by the events of Chosen, has the ability to negate or belittle any feeling existing between Buffy and Spike during the "current" events of Chosen. I think both loves are valid; I don't think one cancels the other out.

I guess I don't see it as a contest. Or, if I do see it as a contest, then I think Angel is well and truly out of the running by Chosen.

Hubby dated psychos in HS. Perhaps why he sees no value in Buffy's teenage angst-filled love life! ;)

I agree entirely. The "contest" is nothing but fun. I hold no grudges against any shippers in the entire 'verse, and I hope none hold me any grudges.

Just wow! Thank you for this, it really is like you pulled every thought I've ever had on this matter out of my brain and wrapped it all up in a perfectly articulated post... this is just SO spot on!

It might be 3-2.. I don't know I think I'm still standing on the fence and nearly tumbling over to the Bangel side. Nothing confirmed yet though

Take your time, friend, and vote your feelings. It's all in fun.
(And for heaven's sake, girl, show your husband how Spike gets the job done!)

We're making our way through the DVDs. I'm holding Comic Books hostage until he's done. It seems to be working nicely. He's seen OMWF.

He seems to be of the opinion that Angel's a big wimp while he's on Buffy. And it appears that he lays the blame fully on Buffy for that. I think he could handle the "Buffy's a teenager and acting like one" but he seems to believe that Buffy acting like a love-sick teenager is making Angel act like one too. That seems to be the part he hates. (And the slurping...he did mention that.)
Although, he did get a HUGE kick out of the scene after he turns into Angelus and Buffy comes to find him in his apartment and he's so mean to her. He laughed like a hyena.
I'm gonna take a stand and say he's FIRMLY against Bangel.

I agree with PV in terms of the relationship side of things...it's not a contest.

Kissing wise...I don't know...Bangel looks more comfortable? More romantic? Less desparation and "smacking" as Giles so rightly put it.

But then maybe if I were getting kissed like that I wouldn't care what it looked like either 😛

Look at it this way: Angel's kiss is a Diet Coke. Spike is a triple deluxe chocolate milk shake with whipped cream and two cherries on top. One's better for your diet, and the other's pure unadulterated sin. Which do you prefer?

Edit:

Folks, on reading back on this thread, I see that I have led us all astray from the original subject again, and I guess that I should apologize. I honestly don't start out to do this, it just winds up happening, especially when I start verbally sparring with Miss K. It was bad enough when we were just two people participating in a mutually cared for subject, but now, if I understand the lady's new duties, it's her job to keep these things on subject, and the very last thing I would ever want to do is get a friend in trouble. Therefore, if no one objects, I would like to concede the point :Angel kisses like a house on fire and every time he does, Buffy melts like a birthday candle.

And Miss K, I promise you that if I stray off subject again (and you KNOW I will, I'm a Spuffy addict) I will take no offense whatsoever if you do your job and smack me between the eyes with a baseball bat if that's what it takes to straighten me out.

Once again, my most sincere apologies to everyone who were trying to carry on an interesting conversation only to be interrupted by an old man's obsession.

WA my darlin' thank you for being so thoughtfull and getting this thread back on it's tracks😀 and I will raise my hands up and admit that I totally helped derailing it! but remember folks this is about the infamous line so lets keep it focused ladies and gents!

(Sneaking in because I know this is off topic again)

definition of insane agrees: I would prefer the chocolate milkshake...but I think I'd prefer watching the diet coke....does that make sense? lol

I just got to say it's comforting that DOI would prefer to NOT watch other people's chocolate milkshake fun. It's comforting to know I'm not hanging out with pervert voyeurs. And, if we weren't talking TV (and network TV at that) I'd agree WHOLE HEARTEDLY. In fact, I don't even think I like watching other people's Diet Cokes either.

(Okay, ducking and running out....go back on topic everyone and ignore the off topic woman in the black cloak!)

LOL...no, I'd prefer not to watch other people's diet coke either ;)
I remember when I heard the quote I wanted to die. The funny part is that when she says it she doesn't walk away. She RUNS away. Almost like she's embarrased herself that she said it. LOL

Nice observation, VG.

I think the weirdest thing about this line is that it's supposed to be romantic when, really, it's sort of creepifying. I mean, a kiss that makes you want to die? Not of the healthy.

"Not of the healthy" . . . Buffyspeak!
I honestly can't make head nor tail of this line and what baffles me even more is that Joss thought it was so perfect!
