Where did it turn the corner for you?

The end of 'Angel', actually. It's kinda corny, but the scene when they're kissing and Buffy walks away and there's this huge cross-shaped burn on Angel's chest? I loved that. I specifically remember saying to myself, okay, I am going to watch this show for real now. Before that, I'd been watching the episodes on and off because tbh, Season 1 didn't really impress me. (Though re-watching now, Season 1 brings a certain kind of nostalgia 😉)

I have been unemployed for awhile, so last spring I started watching the show for kicks. I enjoyed the first season, but was hooked when it came to Innocence and Surprise. After those two eps, I watched several a day and sometimes 7 to 8 ep's a day. I have been hooked since, and have now watched it through 4 times, and working on the 5th. 🙂 Thank you to Netflix for having it streaming, since I can't afford the discs yet.

Well I never got the impression it was a corny show about a blonde ex-cheerleader... I watched it from the straight up beginning... so Welcome to the Hellmouth was my first episode and I thought it was cute... the ending the first episode on the cliffhanger was a great idea and I HAD to go on to The Harvest... but The Witch is where I fell in love. So episode 1 I knew there was something special about this show, episode 2 confirmed it and episode 3, I knew there wasn't just something special about this show... I was in love with it. I'm going to say sometime at the beginning of season 2 as we were getting to know Spike and Dru Buffy became "the one" in terms of television for me.

I gotta go for The Witch too. I can't even really explain why, it was that long ago. I remember watching season one with my mam, and although I loved all the episodes the first one that sticks in my mind that I really loved was The Witch. I can't really remember the first watch of the other episodes so much, so there had to be something about it that got my hooked!
If not a specific episode, I think it was definatley the friendship developing between Buffy, Willow and Xander. It's always been one of the things I loved about the show right from the very beginning.

Angel was the episode where I was finally hooked on BTVS and fell in love with the show. Finally seeing more of Angel and learning more about his past. Then him killing Darla when she tries to shoot Buffy. Parts of season 1 are definitely slow and weak, but this was the first episode of the season that I loved.

Although I must admit, I never really looked at Buffy as a silly cheerleader.

It was a corny show, silly, adolescent show for silly school girls..... before I ever watched an episode. With a name like "BtVS" is had to be bad (just like the movie).

Season 1, Episode 1: Wow, this is good

Season 2, Mid-Season (Not sure exactly when): Holy Moly!! This is amazing!!! (So I call my zombie loving friends who say--- Duh!!! Of course it's great! You didn't know that?)

Season 5 - The Body - Holy Moly!! I just watched the greatest episode of TV ever!!!

Season 6 - A musical??? I hate musicals... I'm going to hate this (of course I was wrong and absolutely love it)

Season 7, last episode- I can't believe it's over!! (tears of sadness, and tears of gratitude for watching one of the greatest shows ever)


BtVS hit good from the start, hit GREAT in Season 2, and never left GREAT.

The very first episode I watched all the way through was OMWF and I thought, "Oh dang, if the music for a one-shot musical episode can be this good, the entire show has got to be amazing." And I was right! =P

I remember in The Witch:

Giles: You are the Slayer! Lives depend upon you! I make allowances for your youth, but I expect a certain amount of responsibility, and instead of which you enslave yourself to this, this...cult."
Buffy: You don't like the color?

It was so good to almost make fun of itself! Like, Buffy is this young girl with this burden of the slayer so they won't have her wanting to be normal or want something like cheerleading, but she did! And it felt so real. This was a pivotal moment for me.

Also, all of season 2. Season 1 was cool and it had a "Hey, it's the 90's and Buffy is a slayer and girl power, yay!" And by the end of season 2 with all the tragedy and death and heartache, I thought it was such a testimony how the show was willing to go there and be deep and not just stay as some surface high school drama of a girl who kicked butt.

I was also pretty young when the show first aired, 12 I think. But I watched it from the first ep and never thought of it as cheap looking or silly or anything. I loved the show almost immediately. Although in hindsight, that first season looks not so great. Bit rough round the edges.

Where did BTVS turn the corner for you from a corny show about a blonde ex-cheerleader to something incredible?

Well to me it never was a corny show about an blonde ex-cheerleader (although I was like 13 at the time so that might've played into it) 🙂

I watched from the get-go so I'd have to answer "Welcome to the hellmouth/The harvest". It had me hooked from Buffy's attitude ("Isn't that bizarre? Aren't you just going, "Ooooh"?") to the cute friends and the hunky hunky guy in the black leather jacket😛



Buffy: I didn't say I'd never slay another vampire. It's not like I have all these fluffy bunny feelings for them, I'm just not gonna get way extracurricular with it.
